• Only applicants who are ineligible for state supports are eligible to
apply to the UCD Sanctuary Programme. When scholars become
eligible for state support they must progress from the UCD
Sanctuary Programme to state support.
• Applicants who have been granted asylum/leave to remain and
have been resident in the EU for three of the past five years may be
SUSI eligible
• Applicants who have not yet been granted asylum/leave to remain
and who have been in the asylum process for three years my be
eligible for the Student Support Scheme for Asylum SeekersSUSI - The Grants Authority The SUSI grant may cover the student fees up to a maximum fee limit of €6,270 for qualifying students. In addition, depending on income, SUSI may also award a maintenance grant. Amounts will vary depending on distance from home to college and household income. SUSI - The Grants Authority Applicants may be eligible for the SUSI grant either from the beginning of their studies or through the course of their studies if they meet the criteria: ● Nationality ● Residency ● Prior educational attainment Scholarship students who become SUSI eligible through the course of their studies are required to make a SUSI application.
SUSI - Nationality ● EU, EEA, UK or Swiss national ● Refugee, programme refugee, family reunification ● Subsidiary protection ● European Communities (Free Movement of Persons Regulations) 2006 and 2008 ● Spouse, civil partner or dependent child of Irish national residing in the State ● Humanitarian leave to remain ● Decision not to deport under section 3 of the Immigration Act 1999 ● Dependent child of naturalized Irish citizen residing in the State
SUSI - Residency ● Applicants must be ordinarily resident in EU, EEA, UK or Swiss Federation for three of the past five years ● If a student has been living in EU/EEA/, UK, or Swiss Federation but not in the Irish State for three of the last five years, they are deemed a tuition student. A tuition student, if deemed eligible, will only receive the fee portion of the Student Grant and will not receive any maintenance payments.

Back to Education Allowance (BTEA) • Over 21 years of age • In receipt of a qualifying social welfare payment for 9 months (Examples: Job Seekers, Disability, One Parent Family) • Must apply in advance of starting college • Contact local Intreo Office for details (www.gov.ie) • Those in receipt of BTEA may qualify for a SUSI fee grant but not a SUSI maintenance grant
Student Support Scheme for Asylum Seekers ● Meet the definition of a protection applicant or a person at leave to remain stage (other than those at the deportation order stage); ● Have been accepted on an approved Post Leaving Certificate course or an approved undergraduate course; and ● Have been part of an application for protection or leave to remain for a combined period of 3 years prior to the 31st of August of the first year of their course. ● Have been resident in the State for a combined period of 3 years as at 31st August of their course ● Applications early August via Gov.ie ● Grants in line with SUSI grants
Getting in to UCD
Student Support • ALL hosts a student welcome programme in advance of term start. Students can get to know other access students on their programme and learn more about student supports at UCD. • Guidance and practical advice is offered by ALL support workers in a one to one confidential setting by appointment or during the ALL drop in hour Monday to Thursday 11-12 noon. • Academic and wellbeing workshops take place each week at the ALL Centre. • Social activities are run throughout the year ensuring students have the opportunity to establish their own social network at university. • Supports open to all other students

Studying at third level is very rewarding, but it will require dedication and
focus. It is very important that you have given careful thought to the

• Up to 18 places in total available for 2021-22Terms and Conditions It is expected that all scholars familiarise themselves with the terms and conditions of the sanctuary scholarship in advance of commencing a UCD programme. Successful applicants will be invited to a T&C review session in advance of drawing down their scholarship. In line with other UCD and state supports, payment of the sanctuary scholarship is subject to the scholar successfully progressing from year to year within their programme. Additional fees incurred as a result of module resits/remediation or supplementation of modules will not be automatically covered.
