MIDDLE SCHOOL CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES:
Attention students: When you come into the school to pick up your items from your lockers your locks
will be removed, so there is no need to worry about your combinations.
FALL SPORTS PHYSICALS FOR ALL STUDENTS (GRADES 7 – 12) – WILL BE HELD ON: 8/3/2020 and
8/4/2020 at the high school. Your report time is based on the first letter of your last name, so we don’t
have people waiting for long periods of time and we are practicing social distancing. You will not be
permitted in the school before or after your scheduled time. A mask will be required to enter the
building. See schedule on the athletic website under sports physicals. Also, you can print a physical form
from the athletic website. Students must have a completed and signed PIAA Athletic Form in order to
get their physical. Cost of the physicals are $20. Checks should be made payable to SASD.

8th Grade Drive-Through Farewell Parade
On Friday, May 29th Shaler Area Middle School hosted an 8th grade drive-through parade to say
farewell to all the 8th grade students. The parade started at 10:00 and the faculty and staff lined up
around the building to say “good-bye” and “good luck” to all the 8th grade students. Students showed
up in decorated cars and a great time was had by all. Good Luck 8th Graders. Go Titans!

Students please remember to turn in your library books when you clean out your locker. There will be
no fines, but Mrs. Millard would really like to have the library books returned.

Fall Play – Mrs. Paul has created a google classroom code (uiexkht) for the fall play at SAMS. Zero details
yet. As of now, Mrs. Paul and Ms. Goetz plan to hold fall tryouts. They are not ready to announce the
title either. Please let anyone you know who is interested in participating in the fall play.

Innovations teachers have created an online gallery of student work. Also, Mr. Casey has created a
gallery for one remote learning project that produced EXCELLENT work! You can view the students’

Virtual STEM CAMP - now located in the Shaler Area Middle School Virtual Club Meetings Google
Classroom. This camp is voluntary and for you to independently work with the iPad and learn new
software essential for future careers. We are excited to announce the availability of the first lesson for
our new series “Champion Your Cause”, a series of weekly lessons designed to learn Microsoft Office
applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) on an iPad for kids in Middle while they explore a cause they
feel passionate about and want to champion. We will have a new lesson each week for the duration of
this 8-week program. This program was designed with the kids from the Best of the Batch Foundation in
mind as part of a collaborative effort with educators from the Shaler Area Middle School

REIMBURSEMENTS

Parents please be advised that we are aware that reimbursements are needed for the following trips
and clubs: Chorus, Band, and Mt. Vernon. We cannot process reimbursement information or write
checks until the Governor reopens the state for business, and we receive instructions to begin
conducting normal business again. We appreciate your understanding while we proceed through these
unprecedented times. Please rest assured that we will process these payments as quickly as possible
once business resumes.

INFORMATION FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE:
To keep you updated on important health information, Mrs. Erdlen has created a google site. The
7th grade dental form and her contact information can both be found on this site. Please check back
frequently for new information and updates.

ATTENDANCE INFORMATION

We ask that parents or students visit: https://support.sasd.k12.pa.us no later than 3:00 p.m. on each
day. If your child is not participating in the daily remote learning activities, attendance should not be
submitted. If you need additional information, please read the Remote Learning Student Attendance
Portal instructions located on the Middle School website.

College and Career Readiness News

What a year you have had! You have demonstrated resiliency and great adaptability! thank you. You
have overcome many obstacles and we want to ensure career readiness is not one of those. The Xello
program has been available to house your career work. SASD Access to Xello will end June 30,
2020. We are recommending for students to print/save the information stored in their Xello account for
personal future use.

Please take the following steps to keep your information before losing access at the end of June:

    •   Sign on to Xello from the SA website
    •   Scroll down to “Quick Links”
    •   “Xello Student”
    •   Username and Password are the same as to log on to any district computer
    •   Once signed into Xello, click the “About Me” tab
    •   Turn on “Profile Sharing” (under your name)
    •   Print your information from “File” then “Print”
