“Value of Educational Athletics”
“Life Skills Taught Here”

We all have a sense of urgency to defend the educational value of athletics in our
respective school system. I think we all feel the athletics can be educational, we just
sometimes do not promote it. Let’s start with the premise that athletics are
educational and promote the following:
1When the Going Gets Tough….
Do you ever feel like
they are circling?
Do you feel like it’s a
Tug of War?

3“Case for High School Activities”
Why?
– “to instill a sense of pride in the
community, teach lifelong lessons
of teamwork and self-discipline, and
facilitate the physical and emotional
development of our nation’s youth.”

5A Bag of Tools
• Isn't it strange how princes and
kings,
• and clowns that caper in sawdust
rings,
• and common people, like you
and me,
• are builders for eternity?

6A Bag of Tools
• Each is given a list of rules;
a shapeless mass; a bag of tools.
• And each must fashion, ere life is
flown,
• A stumbling block, or a Stepping-
Stone.

9How Do We Enhance Performance?
• Do you know your schools mission
statement?
• Is your coaching philosophy
consistent with and support the
mission of the school?
• The number one educational
outcome of co-curricular activities is
the promotion of learning.
9:38: AM
Promotion of Learning: We must be promote the educational value of athletics to
help athletes develop positive character traits and learn life lessons. We must
encourage our athletes to strive to become the best player and person they can be.
Citizenship through participation occurs both on and off the playing surface both in
and out odf season.
Developing good citizen-athletes involves defining and developing the relationship
from athlete to athlete, from athlete to team, and from athlete to community.
