Developing and Growing Opportunities for CP athletes
The 2018 CPISRA World Games represents a unique opportunity to grow the participation of athletes with cerebral
palsy, and related neurological conditions, across a number of Sports, Classifications, Events and Disciplines. This is
particularly important for those sports and events which are not currently part of the Paralympic Games programme,
but where there is an aspiration to compete at World level and develop these for the future.
As an IOSD and membership, we have a collective responsibility to develop the World Games as a catalyst for
enhancing CP opportunity and participation, and provide opportunity for all.
Together we can showcase the need and desire for increased opportunities for CP athletes across sport and
recreation, therefore it is of vital importance that we continue to utilise the exciting platform that the World Games
provides.
CPISRA and the Local Organising Committee are delighted to invite athletes, coaches, staff, officials and
volunteers to be part of the 2018 CPISRA World Games in Sant Cugat – Barcelona, Spain.
The fantastic facilities located in Sant Cugat, which include a Sports High Performance Centre, will play host to
athletes from all around the world. We look forward to welcoming your teams and athletes to Catalonia – Spain.

IPC Sanction - World Para Athletics and World Para Swimming Classification and Officials
Through our partnership with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), World Para Athletics (WPA) and World
Para Swimming (WPS), CPISRA can now confirm that both Para Athletics and Para Swimming at the 2018 CPISRA
World Games will be IPC sanctioned 'IOSD Championships’. This status for both sports will mean that WPA and WPS
respectively will provide both Officiating and Classification personnel to support the delivery of the games. Results
for IPC licensed athletes will be recognised and recorded by IPC.
RaceRunning
World Para Athletics announced on Wednesday, 25 October, the inclusion of RaceRunning events for athletes with
severe co-ordination impairments in competitions from 2018. The growth and development of RaceRunning in
recent years, through the partnership between CPISRA and Parasports Denmark, has seen participation grow
substantially. The 2018 CPISRA World Games will be one of the first events where RaceRunning will be part of the
Para Athletics programme with WPA Classification and officials. This represents a great opportunity for countries to
send athletes, coaches and support staff to learn more about the discipline and experience world level competition.
Para Taekwondo
Following on the from the most successful Para Taekwondo World Championships to date, the 2018 CPISRA World
Games provides the highest level competition for CP athletes in the Poomsae format. Sanctioned by World
Taekwondo (WT), with both WT classification and officials, this is a great development from it’s introduction as a
development sport in the 2015 CPISRA World Games in Nottingham, England.

working with partners and member organisations to offer a range of opportunities for players at all levels, including

a Female CP Football Development Camp and Competition at the 2018 CPISRA World Games.
This will provide an international platform for female players to participate and compete and will run alongside the
2018 IFCPF World Cup U19 which is already part of the partnership between the two organisations.
Wheelchair Slalom Development
FECPC International have been successful in their application for funding from the EU for the development of
Wheelchair Slalom. In addition to training provided in a number of countries and development of the sport rules, the
project will also provide opportunities at the 2018 CPISRA World Games for participants to learn about the sport in
the Development Camp.
FECPC will also host a Wheelchair Slalom Conference to share best practice in social inclusion, present the findings
and progress of the project and support other organisations to develop the sport of Wheelchair Slalom. This
conference will be open all attendees of the World Games, and anyone else who is interested should
