17spa news
The Spa at Montereau has been a whirlwind of activity and has undergone two notable staff changes:
Stylist Julia has retired and is moving to Padre Island. She will be greatly missed, and we wish her the best
in her new endeavor!
Stylist Chaye has begun working more regularly in The Spa. She has been a stylist at Montereau since
2016 working only on Fridays. She will now be working Tuesday through Friday. Chaye received her cosmetology
training from Clary Sage, and she is also a cosmetology instructor at Tulsa Tech. Until recently, she worked at
Inverness, Baptist Village in Owasso and JC Penney on the days she was not at Montereau. We are so glad she will
be with us all the time now!
Chaye grew up in Sand Springs. She and her partner, John, are the proud parents of a 3 ½ year old
daughter. Chaye is available for both hair and skin services. In fact, one recent visitor is quoted as saying she had
“the best facial” from Chaye!
Meet Chaye and the rest of our Spa at Montereau staff at our Open House on Friday, August 17. See page
8 for more details.

spice of the month
Flaxseed is known as one of the most powerful plant foods
on the planet. There’s some evidence it may help reduce your risk
of heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes. That’s quite a tall
order for a tiny seed that’s been around for centuries.
Although flaxseed contains several healthy components, it
owes its primary healthy reputation to three of them:
• Omega-3 essential fatty acids, “good” fats that have been shown
to have heart-healthy effects. Each tablespoon of ground
flaxseed contains about 1.8 grams of plant omega-3s.
• Lignans, which have both plant estrogen and antioxidant
qualities. Flaxseed contains 75 to 80 times more lignans than other plant foods.
• Fiber. Flaxseed contains both the soluble and insoluble types.
Recent studies have suggested that flaxseed may have a protective effect against breast cancer,
prostate cancer and colon cancer. In animal studies, the omega-3 fatty acid found in flaxseed inhibited tumor
incidence and growth. Additionally, the lignans in flaxseed may protect against cancer by blocking enzymes
that are involved in hormone metabolism and interfering with the growth and spread of tumor cells.
Your body cannot break down the outer hull of the flaxseed, so to get the most benefits you need to
use it ground. Try sprinkling it in soups and on salads for a slightly nutty flavor. You can also add it to your
morning oatmeal or cereal. Just ask your server for the spice rack.
