Lake to Sound Trail Connection
• WSDOT is funding a 1.8-mile portion of the Lake to
Sound Trail segment C.
• WSDOT will contribute $10.25 million to the trail and
is working closely with King County and the City of
SeaTac to finish the final segment of the trail. 63%
• The Lake to Sound Trail is a 16-mile non motorized
trail extending from Lake Washington to Puget Sound
shoreline.
Accessibility and transit connections for all
• WSDOT will replace the S. 216th Street Bridge and
include six-foot ADA accessible sidewalks and
dedicated bike lanes.
• WSDOT will add ADA accessible sidewalks in the
Madrona neighborhood between S. 200th Street and
S. 208th Street. These sidewalks connect direction to
the Federal Way Link Extension line at SR 99. 88%

Interurban Trail Connection
• WSDOT will construct a new shared-use
path that improves non-motorized
connectivity to the future Fife Light Rail
Station to the Interurban Trail.
Alexander Avenue to 8th Street shared- 63%

• Provides shared-use path over I-5 at
70th to SR 99 and then from SR 99 will
continue along the SR 167 alignment to
Alexander Avenue.

• WSDOT will also improve sidewalks
across the new 70th Avenue East bridge.
• The new shared-use path is constructed
near the future Fife light rail station, part
of ST’s Tacoma Dome Link Extension. 88%

Expressway naming update
• RCW 47.56.897 Puget Sound Gateway facility account legislation
directed the following:
• …clarify how the tolling of state route number 167 and state route number 509
will be implemented by requiring the transportation commission and the
department of transportation to consider naming the sections of each facility
where all of the lanes are tolled as the state route number 167 expressway and
the state route number 509 expressway respectively.
• WSTC approved use of “expressway” in October

35Next steps
• Next Executive Committee in late spring/early summer.
• The Gateway Program is moving forward with four of six construction contracts
underway.
• We still carry a funding gap for our Stage 2 projects.
• The $180 million in toll funding assumed as part of ESSB 5825 is not needed
for the Program until 2027. The Gateway Program is authorized up to $340
million.
• We are making substantial investments in the multimodal aspects of the
program – connecting neighborhoods to transit hubs in south King and north
Pierce counties.
