about the Ministry
Drawing Near to God is a non-denominational non-profit ministry for women founded by Joanne Ellison in 2000. The
ministry began as a Bible study for women to have an opportunity to fellowship, worship, and learn how to make
space for God in their life. Over the years, the ministry has experienced tremendous growth and outreach to include
an annual “Drawing Near to God” conference serving almost 1000 women, a Thursday morning Teaching & Worship
Experience that reaches over 200 Lowcountry women each week, and a streaming online Bible study that reaches
women across the globe. As part of this growth, Drawing Near to God has also established a powerful “Face to
Face” mentoring and discipleship program that fosters spiritual growth through one-on-one mentoring relationships
encouraging women to make space for God. Drawing Near to God is also reaching out into the community through
Mission & Outreach initiatives, providing financial and volunteer support to other Christian organizations that align
with our mission.

Founder of international nonprofit Drawing Near to God based in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Joanne Ellison teaches women
to make space for God so that God’s presence keeps them from being overwhelmed with life. Driven by a vision to
motivate women to pursue a deeper relationship with God, Ellison founded Drawing Near to God in 2000 and has
since reached tens of thousands of women through Christian radio, television broadcasts, her weekly Bible study,
live streaming, speaking, books, CDs and DVDs. She is the author of over 20 Bible study guides, the popular
365-day Bible devotional, Drawing Near To God, Sitting at His Feet devotional and Tell Your Heart to Beat Again.
Ellison is an engaging speaker, writer and Bible teacher. Her speaking style includes both vulnerability and humor,
and is rooted in her passion for the Bible. She has shared her passion globally, with speaking engagements ranging
from the coast of South Carolina to the coast of California and from universities to the Women’s Union of Nairobi,
Kenya.
She is married to Dr. Blount Ellison, and together they have three children. Making her home in the Charleston area
for most of her life, Ellison is a graduate of the College of Charleston and an active member of Saint Andrew’s
Church, Mount Pleasant, SC
