GRAND CONVENTION
Dr. Chen's Message
After I finished school and came to the United States, I had the opportunity to get a job with
a company in the health food industry. As a new employee, eager to learn, I examined all
the formulas to see how the products were made. And what I discovered was surprising:
The products were formulated directly from books—different types of botanical books.
And this wasn’t limited to my company, other companies did it too, selling different
products but using the same books as blueprints. It was alarming to see how the same
mistakes were repeated and carried over from one company to the other. There was no
innovation, no progress, just copying.
So eventually I talked to my boss and asked him if we could try something a little different,
as it was during this time that I had begun developing some different formulas that I’d
show to associates and distributors. I quickly found out that while these people were
generally open to new ideas, my boss wasn’t. After all, bosses don’t typically take advice
from their workers.
And so it was this roadblock that spurred me into action. I decided to chart my own course
and start my own company, Sunrider. I wanted the freedom to create unique, amazing
products that would provide true benefits for people.
Since that beginning—and to this day—that desire to innovate, to be different, to go beyond
remains the driving force behind Sunrider. This led me to create our trade-secret process
of extraction, formulation, and concentration. I knew that certain herbs cannot simply be
juiced, grinded up, or cooked to obtain their nutrients (like most companies do). To make
extraordinary products, you need exceptional know-how and expertise. This is reflected in
every product we make.
Similar to how my children are the second generation of Sunrider, we now have different
generations of products, evolving and complementing each other. VitaShake® is the
second generation of NuPlus®, and now we have the third generation, SunFit® Protein Plus,
a result of one of the many suggestions I get from my children.
Sunrider is always progressing, which is why I’m still excited after all this time. Although
we’ve been in business for over 36 years, in many ways it feels like we are a brand-new
company, with new products, a new compensation plan, and a new energy. Thank you for
being a vital part of it.

Sunriders toured the Los Angeles Manufacturing Plant to see where and
how the world’s best natural products are made. They also visited World
Headquarters, home of the Chen Art Gallery, which features displays of
Dr. Chen’s priceless collection of art and antiquities. Another highlight
was exploring the Botanical Garden, a serene sanctuary teeming with
various herbs, most of which are found in Sunrider® products.

Session 4: Essential Opportunity Meeting Know-How
One of the highlights of this presentation was
the use of F.O.R.M., which stands for Family,
Occupation, Recreation, and Message, to
introduce Sunrider. Several country managers
explained the technique that is being used in cold-
marketing prospecting with great results.

Chen said, “Get ready to get great
advice from around the world!” And
as promised, senior managers from
Sunrider global offices shared proven
methods to generate leads and turn
prospects into customers and business
builders. From online to offline and
everything in between, attendees learned
how to reach out and make meaningful
connections with confidence and clarity.
Session 6: Boosting Your Income & Organization
The Fast-Start Program was praised
for its effectiveness, because it
offers a new framework when
presenting the Sunrider Business
Opportunity to new people. The
easy-to-use blueprint, along with
the newly designed marketing
materials available at the Sunrider
Business Center are helping IBOs
to set clear goals for themselves, as
well as for their organizations.

General Session
This event delivered a day full of of learning,
inspiration, and recognition. Each member of
the Chen family talked on stage about their
individual roles in supporting Sunriders and in
