Hat-Trick For Prospective Student-Athlete
2018 Dr Lee Bee Wah Cup-STTA Table Tennis Championships

Singapore Sports School’s current and prospective student-athletes shone brightest at the 2018 Dr
Lee Bee Wah Cup-STTA Table Tennis Championships with 10 medals – 6 golds, 3 silvers and 1 bronze.
Twelve-year-old Ser Lin Qian was the tournament’s best performer with 3 gold medals in as many
events. She collected the Women’s, Under 15 and Under 12 Singles titles at Singapore Table Tennis
Association’s annual competition from 16 to 25 November 2018.

Lin Qian, a prospective Sports School student-athlete, had a relatively smooth run leading to the
Final against Secondary 4 student-athlete Jassy Tan Li Ling in the Women’s Singles. The first two sets
went in favour of the younger paddler before Jassy equalised the match. Lin Qian responded by
winning the next two sets to end the best-of-seven match with a score of 4-2, walking away with her
third and final gold medal of the tournament.

It was a similar senior-junior encounter in the Men’s event. The final between Secondary 3’s Andy
Wong Yan Kai and prospective student-athlete Izaac Quek Yong was closely contested as the latter
attempted to match and counter the attacks by his older opponent. The match which was played to
all seven sets ended in victory to Andy.

Izaac had won 2 gold medals prior to the Men’s final, topping the Boys U15 and U12 competition.
Andy also collected a bronze medal in the Boys U15 event.

Five out of a possible seven gold medals went to Team Singapore at the 2018 Southeast Asian Table
Tennis Championships from 15 to 18 December 2018, including 4 silver and 6 bronze medals.
Singapore Sports School’s nine Table Tennis Academy student-athletes, forming the 10-member

It was a battle between Sports School’s paddlers in three events – Men’s and Women’s Singles, and
Mixed Doubles – with post-secondary paddlers Clarence Chew Zhe Yu and Goi Rui Xuan emerging
Singles champions at the 11th edition of the SEA Championships held in Bali. Prior to capturing her

defeating teammates Ethan Poh Shao Feng and Wong Xin Ru 3-1 (6-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-9). The Singles
events were a contest between Clarence and Koen in the Men’s category, and Rui Xuan and Xin Ru in
the Women’s. In fact, Sports School’s post-secondary student-athletes swept clean the Women’s
Singles medals with Eunice Lim Zoe and Pearlyn Koh Kai Xin taking joint-bronze medals.

Koen, Singapore’s top performer with 3 golds and 1 silver, showed fine form in the Men’s Singles
final against Clarence, picking up the first two sets, as well as the fourth, to push the match into the
deciding set. Koen eventually narrowly lost 3-4 to his opponent six years older than he. The 16-year-
old paddler had earlier defeated Sports School senior Ethan 4-0 in the Semi-Finals. Koen also

Posted: 15 November 2018

The annual ITTF World Cadet Challenge is a gathering of the top 32 Under 15 table tennis players
from six continents – Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, North America and Oceania – and host
country as they pit their skills against one another. Singapore Sports School’s Zhou Jingyi, the top
Singaporean Cadet player, was selected to represent Team Asia in the continental battle at the 2018
World Cadet Challenge in Tottori, Japan, from 27 to 31 October 2018.

The 13-year-old Singaporean, the youngest in Team Asia, pulled her weight alongside Kuai Man
(China), Byun Seoyoung (South Korea) and Wanwisa Aueawiriyayothin (Thailand). The Asian quartet
cruised through their Group Stage matches and Semi-Finals against North America to meet hosts
Japan in the Final. The Japanese proved to be a formidable opponent, putting up a strong fight
against Team Asia, forcing Asia to settle for the Girls Cadet Team silver medal after five matches.

Jingyi continued her strong performance to place 13th in the Girls Singles, Girls Doubles top 8 and
Mixed Doubles top 16.

Prospective Table Tennis Academy student-athlete Izaac Quek Yong was Singapore’s other
representative at the World Cadet Challenge. The 12-year-old paddler, representing Team Hopes,

Jaslyn Ranked Top 4 Youth Olympian
Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games

Posted: 15 October 2018

Five Singapore Sports School student-athletes and one alumnus earned the right to compete
alongside 12 other Team Singapore athletes at the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games from 6
to 18 October 2018. On 28 September 2018, Sports School wished the six competitors the best and
sent them off in their pursuit of flying Singapore’s flag high at the Games. Their journey towards the
biggest event for youth athletes in Argentina was several months of arduous training and
competition.

Sports School’s family of athletes – comprising shuttlers Jaslyn Hooi Yue Yann (DBS Year 2), Joel Koh
Jia Wei (alumnus), fencer Matthew James Lim Quan Rong (Secondary 4), swimmer Maximilian Ang
Wei (DSLM Year 1), paddlers Goi Rui Xuan (DSLM) and Koen Pang Yew En (Secondary 4) – flew
Singapore’s flag high on their YOG debut and achieved at least a top 16 finish in the competition. The
Singapore contingent was led by Chef-de-Mission Tao Li, a Sports School alumna.
2018 News - Singapore Sports School
Jaslyn, a post-secondary shuttler in the Diploma in Business Studies programme, was one of Sports
School’s top performers. She smashed her way into the Semi-Finals, winning three of four matches
with a 2-0 scoreline to line herself up for an encounter with World Junior No. 1 Wang Zhiyi of China
in the Women’s Singles. Unfortunately, Jaslyn was unable to overcome her stronger opponent in the
Semi-Finals and she had to settle for fourth place after another defeat to Thai Chaiwan Phittayaporn,
the World Junior No. 2. She also garnered another 4th-place finish with Team Zeta in the Mixed
Relay Team event which included seven other players of different nationalities.

Another notable mention goes to Maximillian Ang Wei in the Men’s 200m Breaststroke. He clocked a
new Personal Best time of 2:16.09s to rank top 8 after the heats and qualify for the final. Maximillian
eventually touched the wall in 7th place in the Final.

Other Sports School student-athletes and alumnus also achieved commendable results in the
competition. Koen entered the elimination round of the Table Tennis Men’s Singles, stumbling just
once in the Group Stage to Ioannis Sgouropoulos of Greece (World U18 No. 8). His tracks were
halted in the Quarter-Finals when he squared off with American Kanak Jha, a Rio 2016 Olympian and
eventual Singles gold medallist at the 3rd YOG. It was also in the Quarter-Finals that alumnus Joel
also ended his campaign in the Mixed Relay Team. Matthew (Fencing Men’s Foil Individual) and Rui
Xuan (Table Tennis Women’s Singles) succeeded in making the top 16 in their respective events.

Koen Pang Yew En became the first Singaporean male to break into the top 15 Under 18 paddlers in
the world when the International Table Tennis Federation released its updated ranking list in
September 2018. The 16-year-old Singapore Sports School student-athlete leaped from a previous
ranking of No. 30 in August 2018 to a career high of No. 14 in the Boys Singles event.

Koen has had an illustrious year, first making his debut major games appearance at the Gold Coast
2018 Commonwealth Games in April. Two months later, he won in two back-to-back competitions –
the Cook Islands Junior and Cadet Open, and the Road to Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games,
Oceania Qualifiers – and earned his spot at the 3rd YOG in Argentina in October 2018.

2018 Dr Ng Eng Hen Cup-STTA Table Tennis Championships

Posted: 14 September 2018

Ser Lin Qian was hardly in the radar before the start of the 2018 Dr Ng Eng Hen Cup-STTA Table
Tennis Championships. The 12-year-old paddler had entered the contest in three events – the Under
12, Under 15 and Women’s Singles. Unsurprisingly, Lin Qian, the Girls U12 defending champion, was
seeded No. 20 in the U15 division, and unseeded in the Women’s open event. However, the budding
paddler pulled stunners to topple giants and claim the crowns in all three events she competed in.

Lin Qian’s doggedness throughout the tournament from 31 August to 9 September 2018 saw her
claim the scalp of nemesis and Sports School paddler Zhou Jingyi in both the U15 and Women’s
Open categories. The prospective Singapore Sports School student-athlete then proceeded to defeat
her older and more experienced opponents, including Sports School post-secondary student-
athletes Wong Xin Ru (Seed No. 1) and Eunice Lim Zoe (Seed No. 5) to become the most decorated
paddler of the Championships with 3 gold medals.

In the Boys events, fellow prospective student-athlete Izaac Quek Yong also secured 2 gold medals in
the Boys Under 12 and 15 age-group events. Izaac and Lin Qian will be joining Sports School’s 2019
intake.
Sports School secondary and post-secondary student-athletes made it a 1-2-3 for the school in the

It was Team Singapore’s youngest athletes who delivered the nation’s sole gold medal on the final
day of the 2018 Chinese Taipei Junior and Cadet Open on 26 August 2018. Singapore Sports School
Secondary 1 student-athlete Zhou Jingyi and prospective student-athlete Ser Lin Qian triumphed
over home favourites Cheng Pu-Syuan and Huang Yu-Jie in the Girls Cadet Doubles to stand highest
on the podium.

Jingyi, 13, and Lin Qian, 12, defeated three other pairs from Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea to
book a spot in the Final of the under-15 division. The young Singaporean duo were off to a good
start in the gold-medal match, taking the first set 11-8, before losing the next set to their more
experienced opponents. However, Jingyi and Lin Qian came back stronger to win the subsequent
two sets to claim victory with a 3-1 scoreline.

Later that day, Secondary 4 paddler Koen Pang Yew En secured the Boys Junior Singles silver medal
after a 1-4 defeat by local paddler Li Hsin-Yang.

Kochi Prefecture Training Exchange

Posted: 15 August 2018
Twenty badminton and table tennis players from Kochi Prefecture, Japan, arrived in Singapore
Sports School on 23 July 2018. Their week-long stint that ended on 28 July was part of the exchange
programme Sports School has with the Kochi Prefectural Board of Education since October 2016. The
partnership aims to provide more sparring opportunities for paddlers to raise the level of playing, as
well as to facilitate knowledge-sharing among coaches.

In addition to training with their Japanese counterparts, Sports School’s Badminton and Table Tennis
student-athletes also had opportunities build on the friendship formed when they visited Kochi in
August 2017. The Japanese players were taken on a city tour around the Marina Bay and stopped by
tourist spots such as the Merlion and Gardens by the Bay. The exchange ended with a one-night
homestay with selected student-athletes to immerse themselves in the Singapore culture.

“The combined training sessions with my friends from Kochi was something I enjoyed during their
visit. They taught me a lot about self-discipline and possessing a positive attitude towards training
and the task at hand. I also enjoyed the homestay as it allowed me to forge a deeper friendship with
my buddy Takasugi Mai and allowed me to understand more about the Japanese culture.”
– Pearlyn Koh Kai Xin, Table Tennis Academy, Secondary 4

“When I visited Kochi in August 2017, I felt the warm hospitality of the Japanese students. They were
so proud about sharing their culture and tradition with us during the homestay. Therefore, when I
knew that the Japanese were visiting Singapore Sports School this year, I also wanted to them to
experience the diverse culture we have in Singapore.

“It was great having the Kochi players with us at training. The combined training sessions provided
my teammates and I a different learning experience, as we were exposed to different playing styles
and techniques. However, it was the friendship forged that was most memorable for me, one I’ll
treasure deeply. The Olympic values of Friendship, Respect and Excellence was truly reflected in this
Sports School-Kochi exchange. I hope that the exchange will continue so that my juniors will also
benefit from this enriching experience.”

We Are Sports School, We Are Singapore
2018 National Day Celebration and Tapestry Unveiling

Posted: 15 August 2018
It was a congregation of Singapore Sports School’s family – student-athletes from the present and
past, staff, members from the school’s Board of Directors and parents from the Sporting Parents
Network – to celebrate Singapore’s 53rd birthday at Sports School. A Dikir Barat performance
kicked-off the morning event in The Arena on 8 August 2018.

Secondary 1 student-athletes Eleanor Quah Yu Wei and Trinity Alcantara Goh, both from the
Swimming Academy, delivered a dramatic reading, recounting the nation’s historic events and
significant milestones, as well as the how far the Little Red Dot has progressed in just 53 years since
independence was gained on 9 August 1965. Their reading was accompanied by performances from
flute-player Au Yong Qing Yong (Shooting Academy), Lyn Yeo Siew Lyn (Rhythmic Gymnastics),
Amirah Sahrin (Pencak Silat) and Kimberly Ong Li Ling (Wushu).

Olympian Tao Li returned to her alma mater with an apt rendition of “Home”. Netball alumna Nurul
Amira Johar also joined in the celebration, leading the school in National Day songs.

To add to the celebratory mood, a sumptuous lunch of local specialties such as chicken rice, satay,
chilli crab and laksa was prepared by Sodexo, Sports School’s in-house caterer.

During the commemorative event, Sports School Principal Mr Tan Teck Hock also took the
opportunity to thank Ms Yeoh Chee Yan, former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture,
Community and Youth, for her contributions to the school and service to the nation. Her work in
MCCY since the ministry was formed in November 2012 has also seen positive impacts on social
cohesion and building national identity amongst Singaporeans. Ms Yeoh, also the former Chairman
of the school’s Board of Directors, played an important role in Sports School’s growth and direction.
She relinquished her role as Permanent Secretary on 1 July 2018.

Prior to the National Day celebration, a tapestry was unveiled at Sports School’s swimming complex
ahead of Sports School’s 15th Anniversary in 2019. Student-athletes had a hand in painting the
artwork that dons the school block facing the school’s two Olympic-sized swimming pools on 27 and
28 July 2018.

Mixed-Nationality Doubles Pairing Yields Success
2018 Hang Seng Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open

Posted: 15 August 2018
While most Doubles pairs have the advantage of good “chemistry”, Singapore Sports School student-
athlete Jassy Tan Li Lin had to overcome the additional difficulty of partnering someone new. Being
paired with Chinese Taipei’s Wen Ruei-ling for the first time in the Girls Junior Doubles at the 2018
Hang Seng Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open, both players had to quickly adapt to each other’s
playing style.
Yet, Jassy showed skill and versatility as a player to progress into the final stage. The Singapore-
Chinese Taipei duo fought three tough matches before successfully booking a spot in the Final. In the
Semi-Finals against Secondary 1 schoolmate Zhou Jingyi and Indian paddler Swastika Ghosh, Jingyi
and Swastika came from one set down to win the next two sets, before Jassy and Ruei-ling equalised
in the fourth set to force a decider. Jassy and Ruei-ling won the semi-final bout 3-2 (11-3, 6-11, 9-11,
11-4, 11-9) to set up a match against Chinese pair Shi Xunyao and Qian Tianyi, the Girls Junior Singles
gold and silver medallists.

Jassy and partner eventually lost 0-3 (4-11, 8-11, 3-11) to take home the silver medal. Jingyi finished
joint-third in the same event.

Earlier in the tournament from 1 to 5 August 2018, Sports School Table Tennis Academy student-
athletes won two more bronze medals – Pearlyn Koh Kai Xin, Tan En Hui and Zhang Wanling in the
Girls Junior Team event; and Andy Wong Yan Kai and Nicholas Chong Xin Le in the Boys Cadet Team.

The Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open is a Golden Series event on the International Table Tennis
Federation’s World Junior Circuit.

Global Learning For IB Student-Athletes
2018 IB World Student Conference (Hong Kong)

Posted: 15 August 2018
Twenty-three student-athletes from Singapore Sports School’s International Baccalaureate Diploma
Programme participated in the 2018 IB World Student Conference in Hong Kong from 31 July to 6
August 2018. They had the opportunity to interact with IB students around the world while acquiring
a deeper interest in global issues.

This year’s theme of “Education for All: Moving Towards a Gender-Fair World” allowed Sports
School’s IBDP post-secondary student-athletes to explore and discuss the issues of gender
inequalities in education and what can be done to alleviate the problems and create an inclusive
education system.

During the week-long conference that took place at the University of Hong Kong, student-athletes
immersed themselves in discussions relevant to the said theme through keynote speeches; Skills
Sessions, which equips participants with essential skills for their Creativity, Activity, Service projects;
Global Action Teams sessions, where groups brainstorm for practical solutions to their CAS projects
and discuss issues raised by the speakers.

Keynote speakers at the conference included Professor Nirmala Rao, a specialist in childhood
development and education; Professor Petula Sik Ying Ho, a leading researcher in gender and
sexuality issues; and Professor Peter Mathieson, a champion for the HeForShe movement for the
advancement of gender equality.

Student-athletes were placed in culturally mixed Global Action Teams to enhance their international
learning experience, and at the end of the conference, each team had to give a presentation of their
project. Sports School student-athletes’ conference experience was sweetened when several of
them won awards for Best Project and Best Presentation with their teams.

The International Table Tennis Federation has updated the current Cadet world ranking list, and
Singapore Sports School Secondary 1 student-athlete, Zhou Jingyi is No. 5 and the youngest player
on the Top 10 list.

The 13-year-old’s previous best ranking was No. 10 in the Under 15 list. In 2018, Jingyi, a shakehand
grip right-handed player, has played 43 ITTF sanctioned matches and earned a 58 per cent win
record. She has also made history for Singapore by being the first Singaporean to win the 2017 ITTF
World Hopes Week and Challenge in Luxembourg.

Before her win in Luxembourg, Jingyi had secured the Girls Singles titles at both the Regional Hopes
(Southeast Asia) Week, and the 2017 Asia Hopes Follow Up Camp and Challenge. She won bronze
medals in two Cadet events at her first South East Asian Junior and Cadet Table Tennis
Championships outing the same year. Jingyi also delivered Singapore's first Hopes Singles crown at
the ITTF Thailand Junior and Cadet Open on the ITTF Golden Series Junior Circuit in May 2017.
Jingyi is part of the School-Within-A-School programme where student-athletes undergo an
extended duration of training in the day and attend academic classes in the evenings.

“Singapore Sports School has nurtured more than 16 national table tennis representatives since its
inception in 2004. We have a strong partnership with Singapore Table Tennis Association and will
endeavour to strengthen the pipeline of sport talent for Team Singapore. My heartiest
congratulations to Jingyi for her remarkable progress,” said Mr Tan Teck Hock, Singapore Sports
School Principal.

Jingyi is not the only Sports School paddler who has been making waves in the international arena.
Koen Pang Yew En, a Secondary 4 student-athlete, made his first major games debut at the Gold
Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games at 15 years old. Within the last 10 days, he managed to earn
qualification to the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games, as well as win 2 gold and 1 silver
medals in the ITTF Cook Islands Junior and Cadet Open Boys Junior events. Three other post-
secondary student-athletes – Beh Kun Ting, Ethan Poh Shao Feng and Zhang Wanling – and alumnus
Pang Xue Jie were part of Team Singapore at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Former national paddler Pang Xue Jie received the Youth Endowment Fund from Singapore Table
Tennis Association on 27 May 2018 in recognition of his contributions to Singapore and the sport.
This monetary gift follows the announcement of his retirement from competitive sport earlier in the
month.

The Singapore Sports School alumnus had a decorated career in table tennis, winning multiple
medals in several editions of the Southeast Asian Games, including 1 gold and 2 silver medals at the
2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, and a Men’s Team gold medal at the New Delhi 2010
Commonwealth Games. Xue Jie first made his debut at the biennial regional Games in 2007 at 14
years old. He was officially inducted into the national men’s team four years later. His other
accolades include the 2017 Keppel-STTA Special Award of the Year and 2018 STTA Player of the Year
presented at STTA’s Awards Night.

STTA started the endowment fund in 2010 to support its national athletes in their post-sport
careers. Only paddlers who have been in the national team for a minimum of 3 years are eligible to
receive the financial support.
As he lays his paddle aside, Xue Jie has plans to set up a blockchain-related company and will use the
gift of $31,657.50 to finance his business project.

Scholarships To Fund Sports Dreams
2018 Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim Scholarship

Artistic gymnast Lincoln Forest Liqht Man was one of seven Singapore Sports School student-athletes
who received the Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim Scholarhip in the High Performance
Under 18 category on 1 June 2018. This was the seventh year running that the International
Baccalaureate Diploma Programme Year 6 student-athlete was receiving the scholarship which helps
him defray the financial burden of pursuing sport at the elite level.
Thirty-three secondary and IBDP student-athletes were awarded the SOF-Peter Lim Scholarship
across the Secondary, Tertiary and High Performance U18 categories. Several post-secondary
student-athletes in Sports School’s polytechnic through-train programmes were also amongst the
269 recipients awarded the scholarship in 2018.

IBDP shuttler Crystal Wong Jia Ying, who is currently training for her third Southeast Asian Games
representation in Manila in 2019, has benefitted from this scholarship.

“The scholarship reduces the financial load on my parents and I now do not need to rely extensively
on them to fund my sport pursuits such as overseas travel expenditures, transportation costs in
Singapore and purchase of new equipment. With fewer worries on finances, I can focus better on my
sport and buy good quality equipment that will aid my training,” said Crystal.

Twenty-time national champion Koji Murofushi and Rio 2016 Olympic Games gold medallist Joseph
Schooling attended the event as a special guests. Koji is a renowned former Japanese hammer
thrower who won gold medals at the 2004 Athens Olympics and 2011 World Championships.
Sharings about their sport journey by the two Olympic gold medallists served as an inspiration for
the recipients and an encouragement for them to be resilient in chasing their sport dreams.

Martina Shoots Down Unwavering Golden Targets
Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games

Wrap-Up by Gail Chia
Senior Executive, Strategic Communications

Posted: 13 April 2018

It all came down to the last shot. Martina Lindsay P Veloso kept her cool, and fired. “10.3” flashed on
the screen. She grinned and pumped her fist in victory. India’s Mehuli Ghosh had hit a 9.9. Martina
was the new Commonwealth Games 10m Air Rifle gold medallist and she had won the first gold for
Singapore at the 21st edition.
Throughout the final of the Women’s 10m Air Rifle event on 9 April 2018, the Singapore Sports
School alumna maintained her composure and showed herself to be a deserving winner. Except for
the first five shots in the 24 shots of the elimination final, Martina held on to her lead through to the
last. It was a tense Final with both defending champion, Apurvi Chandela, and eventual runner-up,
Mehuli, following closely behind – even tying with her on two occasions: after the 20th and 24th
shots.

Twenty-six minutes into the Final, Martina had fired all 24 regulation shots for a score of 247.2
points – a new Games Record, with Mehuli yet to complete her 24th. The 18-year-old Singaporean’s
lead had narrowed from 0.8 points after 22 shots, to 0.5 points a shot later. Mehuli needed a perfect
10.9 points to tie for first – and she delivered, resulting in a shoot-off between the two competitors.

In the Qualification round earlier that day, Martina’s score of 414.3 points placed her in fourth
position entering the Final. She was the second-ranked Singaporean after Tessa Neo with 417.2
points.

Martina was once again victorious two days later, as she claimed the crown in the 50m Rifle Prone
event. Her final score of 621.0 points was another new Games Record, breaking the previous score
of 620.7 points set at the 2014 edition.

Her composure and consistency throughout after 60 shots saw her climb from joint 5th position
after the first 10 shots, to 2nd place after the next 20 fires, then 1st at the end of 40. She lengthened
her lead to end the competition 2.1 points ahead of India’s Tejaswini Sawant.

A few days prior on 8 April, the Table Tennis Women’s Team won a silver medal for Singapore. Post-
secondary student-athlete Zhang Wanling was a member of the team and had contributed to the
team’s qualification into the quarter-final stage.

The Men’s Team, comprising present and past student-athletes Beh Kun Ting, Ethan Poh Shao Feng,
Koen Pang Yew En, Pang Xue Jie, and veteran Gao Ning, breezed through the Group Stage but faced
strong challengers in the elimination rounds. Overcoming a tough quarter-final battle against Canada
which they won 3-2, they unfortunately succumbed to their opponents from India in the Semi-Finals,
and England in the bronze medal contest.

Singapore’s badminton team suffered a similar fate in the Mixed Team event, meeting No. 1 seeded
India in the Semi-Finals and England in the playoff for third place. They fought bravely in both
matches, giving their world-ranked opponents a challenge during their encounters on court. Post-
secondary student-athletes Crystal Wong Jia Ying and Terry Hee Yong Kai, a relatively new pairing,
went up strongly against World No. 57 pair Ashwini Ponnappa and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy from
India, losing 20-22, 18-21. Alumnus Loh Kean Yew gave English shuttler Rajiv Ouseph a run for his
money and pushed a third-set decider. The Men’s Singles World No. 225 Singaporean fought back to
claim the second set against the World No. 2 shuttler Rajiv, but had to settle for a final score of 22-
20, 15-21, 23-25. Team Singapore finished 4th in the Mixed Team event.
Other athletes in Sports School’s family continue to give their best for Singapore at the Gold Coast
2018 Commonwealth Games that concludes on 15 April 2018.
