History of Germanfest
Sacred Heart Parish has had a summer fundraiser since its earliest days.
Generally, it took the form of a picnic and ice cream social. But in 1974,
it was transformed into Junifest (June festival), a German summer
festival with wonderful home-cooked German foods and a Gala Garten.
This was most appropriate since we are the daughter parish of St Joseph
Church; the original parish devoted to German and Volga German
immigrants.
Over the years the name changed to Summerfest and finally,
Germanfest. And it has grown from a Sunday afternoon event to a two
day festival that celebrates our heritage and traditions with wonderful
German foods. These authentic foods include sauerbraten, grebble,
noodles and sage balls, German potato salad, German sausage and
bratwurst, sauerkraut, and more. The food is rounded off with
American choices including fried chicken and other complementary
dishes.
The celebration begins with an outdoor Mass of Thanksgiving at 4 pm
Saturday; weather permitting, followed by a preview of some of the
delicious German food to be offered on Sunday. At 5 pm the beer
garden opens and an evening of live entertainment begins. Sunday
morning, festivities begin at 10 am and parishioners and parish
supporters are preparing for an exciting day ahead. The games and
activities get under way and the food lines form, all with delightful
German music in the background.
We have been blessed with new “family members” as Sacred Heart and
St Joseph Parishes have come together to become one. In addition, our
“school family” has grown to become one with Our Lady of Guadalupe
parish students. We have been guided down new paths for the future,
but faith has brought us together as we support each other with
Germanfest and other parish/school activities.
Sacred Heart-St Joseph and Holy Family Catholic School “family”
members take pride in the development and growth of Germanfest
over the years and strive to continue our commitment to
Faith Family Community
This heritage event would not be possible without hundreds of
volunteers. We thank them, one and all, and we thank you for your
patronage!

auction volunteers and auctioneer.

or on addendum sheet.
Auction begins at 2 pm
1. Receive a bid number at Auction Table - available for pick up all
day Sunday.
2. No item will be sold for less than opening bid.
3. Minimum bid can only be lowered by authorized committee
members.
4. Sacred Heart-St Joseph Parish reserves the right to place
minimum bid/reserve on all oral auction items.
5. The highest bid at closing time will constitute the winning bid. All
decisions of the auction committee will be final.
6. The auctioneer will announce the winning bidder by number and
price item sold for.
7. All Sales are final.
8. Cashiers at Auction Table will tally all auction purchases. All
items must be paid for by the close of the event - 6 pm. Items
must be picked up and signed for before leaving the event unless
other arrangements are made in advance. Debit/Credit Cards are
accepted. Checks accepted upon approval.
9. All services, trips, gift certificates, and privileges must be used
within the expiration date, if provided, or contact donor for
details in a timely manner.
10. All bidders must be present at time of bidding. No closed or
absentee bids accepted.
• All sales are final.
• All items must be paid for and picked up by
close of event - 6 pm Sunday, June 3.

“Boots” the Goat
"Boots": this adorable little guy is waiting for you to take him home. Born as a
twin, on May 16, 2018, he weighed in at 8.8 lbs. His mother rejected him so he
feeds from a bottle four times a day. His mother is 1/2 Boer (meat) and 1/2 Nubian
(dairy). His father was 1/2 Boer (meat) and 1/2 Kiko (meat). That makes this little
guy 3/4 meat goat and 1/4 dairy goat. He should grow to weigh 100-150 pounds.
He is intact, but can be banded very easily if desired.

Summer in Kansas isn’t so cool when your air conditioning stops working in the
heat of the day. This auction item allows an inspection of your AC unit with an
allowance of 2 LBS of Freon to be added, if needed. Also, before you know it a
Kansas winter is upon us and nothing would be worse than to turn your heater on to
discover it is not working properly. This package includes an inspection for your
heating system as well. An appointment will need to be scheduled and any parts
required are not included. This package is to be used within one year of purchase.
