The Dalla Cia &
Majeka House Experience
Stumbling upon an unexpected discovery is one of the true joys of travelling, and
tucked away in the quiet Stellenbosch suburb of Paradyskloof lies one of the most
charming destinations in the South African winelands, Majeka House.
The lucky bidder of this lot gets to experience two nights for two couples (four people)
including breakfast.
Enjoy a five-course dinner paired with Dalla Cia wines and some special Grappas
presented by George Dalla Cia at The Majeka Kitchen.
Dalla Cia, a unique combination of age-old Italian tradition and passion for innovation.
In George’s words … it all began in the 1920s in Friuli, Northern Italy, with my grandfather
Vittorio Dalla Cia. At the time a wine merchant, he enrolled his youngest son Giorgio,
my father, to Italy’s prestigious Scuola Enologica di Conegliano for viticulture and
œnology.
My father moved our family to South Africa in 1974, where he was appointed
cellamaster at Meerlust Estate in 1978. His name will always be associated with the
iconic Meerlust Rubicon, one of the first Bordeaux style blends in South Africa, which
earned him many accolades, including South Africa’s Champion Winemaker in 1980
and producer of the best red blend in the world with his 2001 vintage.
In the same year we launched our maiden vintage of Dalla Cia Sauvignon Blanc. Its
immediate success followed by a Chardonnay inspired me to establish Dalla Cia Wine
& Spirit Company, persuade my father to retire from Meerlust and join forces in a
vibrant precinct of Stellenbosch, Bosman’s Crossing.
We produce six classically styled wines, elegant and approachable. Our advantage
is that we source from the best grape growers in the Stellenbosch area, and ensure
consistent high quality wines, built out of respect for the grape and terroir.

                                                                                          7

Unique Wines in Gastronomic
Franschhoek with De Kleine Wjin Koöp
De Kleine Wijn Koöp is a project by winemaker Wynand Grobler and his wife, Anya.
The Groblers regard the ‘cooperative’ as a two-person family business and run it from
a small cellar in the heart of Paarl. Wynand doesn’t care much for corporate structures
or large cellar teams, his main goal is to be personally involved in the winemaking
process. He produces only small quantities of wine from vineyards in Stellenbosch,
Swartland, Walker Bay, Franschhoek, Piekenierskloof and Agter-Paarl. As mysterious as
the Black Cat. As nomadic as David Kramer’s combi. As heroic as Wolraad Woltemade’s
horse. With tiny volumes, De Kleine Wijn Koöp specialises in high-quality wines.
“De Kleine Wijn Koöp is a place for us to be creative and play outside of the conventions
of the store shelf. So get ready for one-off unique wines,” says winemaker, Wynand
Grobler.
This weekend will take place at the luxurious Mont d’Or Franschhoek where Cricket
legend and Protea captain Faf du Plessis will join Wynand at the dinners to speak
about his love for wine and how he got involved and became a partner in the business.
Situated in the heart of historic Franschhoek, Mont d’Or is an easy stroll away from
the town’s variety of entertainment: think restaurants, wine tasting, chocolateries,
museums and monuments. Expect five-star accommodation with a variety of meals
prepared by celebrated chef, Nic van Wyk.

                                                                                      11
Experience the Graham Beck
Pursuit of the Perfect Bubble
Situated in the Breede River Valley and only ten kilometres from the scenic town of
Robertson along the popular Route 60, Graham Beck invites you for an exclusive and
sparkling weekend getaway.
The magical weekend will commence on the Friday evening with your arrival at Grace
House, the Beck family`s private luxury manor home on the Robertson estate. An
indulgent dinner will follow, expertly complemented by a variety of Graham Beck Cap
Classique sparkling wines and hosted by renowned ‘Mr. Bubbles’ himself – Graham
Beck cellar master, Pieter Ferreira.
Saturday’s activities include a tour of the facilities, a masterclass tasting session
conveyed by Pieter and exploring interesting topics such what effect glassware has
on the tasting experience, lees ageing vs. cork ageing, the effect of dosage and many
more. This extraordinary opportunity will end with an aspirational benchmark tasting
highlighting some gems from the Graham Beck vinoteque as well as a few of the
world’s finest sparkling wines.
The day will end with a scenic sunset drive through the Graham & Rhona Beck Private
Nature Reserve, led by Graham Beck resident conservation manager, Mossie Basson.
The conversation offers a special chance to explore this very special biome – the
nature reserve is home to many indigenous species of fauna including the highly
endangered and rare riverine rabbit, as well as large tracts of highly sensitive succulent
Karoo vegetation.
A private dinner will follow at Grace House.
Sunday will end off with our guests enjoying a leisurely breakfast at the Grace Manor
House before departure.

                                                                                       13

Bertus Basson Experience
This proudly Stellenbosch lot for two couples to enjoy is a collaboration of the crème
de la crème of South Africa’s most historic wineland’s town. Bringing together iconic
wines, fine dining and luxurious accommodation for an experience that digs into the
heart of this famous region.
Kanonkop Estate is recognised as a South African equivalent of a Premier Cru or First
Growth. A fourth generation family-owned estate, Kanonkop Estate is situated on the
lower slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain, which is commonly known as the ‘red wine
bowl’ of South Africa. This area has earned a reputation, both at home and abroad,
for producing the best red wines in the country. The estate is situated on 125 hectares,
of which 100 are planted to vines. Besides the solid foundation on which the estate’s
winemaking principles are based, it is also blessed with the ideal soils, terrain and
climate, creating perfect conditions for growing quality grapes. The cellar is currently
led by Abrie Beeslaar, who joined the team in 2002, and took over the reins from
Beyers Truter in 2004. As part of this lot, guests will be invited into the inner sanctum of
this world-renowned estate for a private VIP tour and tutored tasting, the lucky bidder
will also take home a 12L Kanonkop Cabernet Sauvignon 2015.
From fine wining to epic dining with a dinner for the four guests at Eike hosted by
celebrity chef Bertus Basson and a member of the Kanonkop team. The dinner will be
paired with the estate’s wine.
Eike is nestled in an old historic building in the famous Dorp Street of Stellenbosch.
Stellenbosch is also known as ‘Die Eikestad’, which translates to ‘The Oak City’. Eike
celebrates traditional South-African cooking to it fullest by drawing inspiration from
nostalgic food memories.
The two couples will continue to soak up that special Stellenbosch ambience, with
beautifully appointed accommodation for the weekend.

                                                                                         17

South Africa’s second oldest town.
Three couples will be accommodated for one night in the Oldenburg Homestead, a
private house nestled in the Banghoek Valley between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.
During the course of the evening the guests will be treated to a gourmet barbecue
hosted by the South African Merlot Forum, as well as a tutored-tasting of Stellenbosch’s

The Exquisite Elgin Experience
with Paul Cluver Wines
Experience Paul Cluver Wines like never before with Cherry Glamping, Elgin
Adventures and SALT. Paul Cluver Wines is a family owned and family run winery,
focused on producing world class wines that reflect the uniqueness of the cool-climate
Elgin terroir. The family is proud to have pioneered the Elgin appellation and for being
a leader in sustainable farming.
Renowned the world-over for their excellent wines Neal Martin famously said: “This
remains the benchmark Elgin producer of wine and in their Seven Flags Chardonnay,
Andries Burger has conjured one of the standouts of the vintage, white or red. Just a
showstopper of a Chardonnay that gives a lot of Burgundy a run for its money (and I’ve
tasted a lot of white Burgundy). If you want to know how good South African whites can
be, then look no further than Paul Cluver.”
This experience includes two nights’ stay at the enchanting Cherry Glamping, located
conveniently close to Paul Cluver. Set in a private forest, with panoramic views of the
towering Groenlandberg Mountains, this secluded hideaway in the heart of the Elgin
Valley offers a unique camping experience where guests reside in luxury bell tents
amid tall pine trees. The tents are kitted out with beds and the finest linens. Every
comfort has been considered.
Enjoy epicurean delights at SALT at Paul Cluver Wines, the brainchild of legendary
chefs Craig Cormack and Beau du Toit. The cosy restaurant is spearheaded by
Mechell Spann. The ‘SALT’ philosophy is all about authenticity and focuses on quality
ingredients cooked in an honest way.
After breakfast on the Sunday, guests can discover and explore the farm by guided
e-bike tour with Elgin Adventures.

                                                                                     21
Step Back in Time
with Plaisir de Merle
Nestled on the slopes of the Simonsberg, overlooking the Drakenstein Valley, Plaisir
de Merle has been making award-winning, French-inspired wines for more than 300
years. Set amongst manicured lawns and ancient oak trees, this historic estate offers
exquisite vistas and magic aplenty.
Two couples will spend a weekend discovering its charms, punctuated with fine food
and wines. The historic landmarks of Plaisir de Merle act as markers through time and
as a tribute to the generations that came before. A walk around the estate reveals
this long history in the form of gables, symbols and more. Jacob Marais (grandson of
founder Charles Marais) built the manor house in 1764, where it remains today as one
of the earliest and finest examples of Cape Dutch architecture.
Guests will be enchanted by the rich tapestry of stories on a guided horse and cart tour
through the estate, stopping at the iconography where tales unfold.
Dining experiences will range from a food and wine pairing with cellarmaster, Niel
Bester to a gourmet picnic in the heart of the vineyards, set-up on the slopes of the
Simonsberg to take in those spectacular views.
Guests will spend the weekend in the historic Manor House, which opens up to a
magnificent vista of the Simonsberg Mountains and the cascading vineyards. The interior
features an elegant and eclectic rendition of old and new – a design aesthetic that pays
homage to the estate’s long legacy and its forward thinking, progressive ethos.
There will be various spoils on offer, from on-site massages to vertical tastings and
wine to take home, all you need to do is step back in time and enjoy it all.

                                                                                     23
Experience a Once-in-a-Lifetime
Ultimate Telos Wine Weekend
with Tokara
TOKARA is situated on the Helshoogte Pass and has some of the most amazing views
over the Stellenbosch Valley and False Bay. TOKARA is the embodiment of owner GT
Ferreira’s philosophy that good wine, good food and good art go together to make a good
lifestyle. This experience brings all of those ideals together for a once-in-a-lifetime weekend,
with the premium, luxury, TELOS at the centre.
Consistently recognised as one of SA’s top wineries, the estate offers visitors a unique
combination of award-winning wines, brandy and olive oils, a gallery of fine art, a
restaurant featuring one of SA leading chefs as well as a delicatessen and sculptures.
The pinnacle of what the estate can achieve is showcased by the TELOS.
Named after the Greek term describing the end of a goal-directed process, the four
best barrels were selected from a 17-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon block planted on a
35% slope at 400m above sea level.
From Wine Cellar: “First launched in London and then Johannesburg, Tokara’s owner
GT Ferreira presented the Telos against six of Robert Parker’s 100-pointers, including
the likes of Latour and Cheval Blanc. Although it was of a different age and style,
the Telos matched the precision, luxury and class of Bordeaux’s finest, showing that
South African Cabernet Sauvignon is world-class. Rounded off with 5% Malbec and
3% Merlot, the wine is extremely precise, showing red rather than black fruit and
unbelievable poise. The alcohol is an elegant 14% and offers a pure-fruited style with
a hint of dried fynbos and luxurious, powdery tannins.”
The weekend will also include dining experiences at TOKARA Restaurant, headed by
rising culinary star, Chef Carolize Coetzee. Renowned art curator Ilse Schermers of IS
Art will take guests on an art tour of the estate, among many other highlights.

                                                                                             25
