Testimonial from Ellie George

Moving from my regional hometown of Tamworth to Canberra was a big step for me.
I had never lived away from home before — let alone so far away — and all my school
friends either stayed in town or went to universities a lot closer to home.

Canberra felt big and busy, so I was really grateful that I moved into Bruce Hall, which is
my residential college. Some of the older students that I lived with took us on walks into
the city so that we could find our way around, showed where to park our cars and where
to buy our books, so that we weren’t figuring everything out on our own.

Despite not knowing anybody in Canberra when I first moved, I felt immediately
welcome at Bruce. There were heaps of events and activities to help all of us get to
know each other; though all of us were coming from different places — rural, regional,
or metropolitan — we were all finding our way in a new environment.

Bruce Hall has become a home away from home for me, and the opportunities that
I’ve had here have been amazing. Living on campus at the ANU, I’ve met and built
relationships with hundreds of talented, motivated people from all over Australia.
I’ve learned about leadership, teamwork, and how to push myself and aim higher.
I feel so lucky to be a part of a community that is so supportive and conducive to
growth, but that also allows me to stay true to myself.

Growing up in regional Victoria, Canberra and the ANU seemed worlds away from our
small town. Moving here, Burton and Garran Hall provided a home away from home which
I am convinced is the best I will ever experience.

The community thrives on a culture of what can only be described as rambunctious
kind-heartedness — from the moment I arrived, I felt that the staff, pastoral care team and
the community as a whole genuinely cared for my wellbeing. There is a place for everyone
at B&G, of all backgrounds and interests; it is this melting pot of life-histories which helped
me expand my horizons to sporting and academic opportunities which I may have never
experienced otherwise.

In addition, living on campus with such a diverse group has helped me to become fast
friends with people I could never have met without the supporting nature of this community.
Without hesitation, I can highly recommend B&G as a welcoming place for anyone
considering on-campus living.

Testimonial from Tim Chan

Travelling thousands of miles away from home to study abroad, without a shadow of a doubt,
is one of the most challenging things I have ever done in my life. Yet it is definitely the best
decision I have ever made so far.

Prior to my arrival, I was so nervous: Canberra was completely new to me and I had no
idea about the environment and challenges I was going to face. Luckily, I chose to stay in
Wright Hall. Residents and staff members here are very friendly and caring. They are the
nicest people I have ever met. They are eager to offer me assistance to settle into and adapt
to life in ANU and Australia. They are more than just my friends. They are my family here
(Yes, both residents and staff members here in Wright Hall).

Living in residential halls not only has granted me opportunities to join various events and
chances to meet people from all around the world, but also academic support from my fellow
residents. They offered me advice on studying in the university and the methods to ace the
academic challenges ahead. This is something you could never experience elsewhere.

Living in ANU and Wright Hall is something you would never want to miss, and I am always
proud to call ANU and Wright Hall my home.

Applying as a UAC applicant
Including non-direct domestic undergraduate applicants, domestic postgraduate and
international applicants.

If you are applying, then your application must be completed in full and submitted within
the specified dates. Incomplete applications are not considered.

All accommodation applications are free and there is no obligation so we encourage you
to make an application within the timelines.

You do not need to wait for an academic offer to complete your application. Accommodation
offers are triggered by academic offers so, if you decide not to come to ANU, your application
will not be considered.

It is not a first-come, first-serve system. All applications are considered and all applications
are reviewed equally at the close of the application period. Once you submit your application,
nothing further is required to assess your application.

Your accommodation offer will be sent to the email you included in your application.

Step 3:

Applications for accommodation are submitted through the Accommodation Services Portal
and managed centrally. You will need to:

1. Register in the ANU Accommodation portal;
   www.anu.edu.au/study/accommodation/advice-procedures/how-to-apply-for-accommodation
2. Receive a registration confirmation email
3. Complete your application in full.

Step 4:

Receive and accept your offer. Accommodation offers are made on a rolling basis. Offers are
made separately from your offer to study at the ANU and can be offered at any point up to
commencement of semester.

You will receive an email with the information regarding your offer outcome and you will need
to accept the offer within the timelines as stated.

Applications are free and there is no obligation to accept an offer. If you accept an offer of
accommodation but decide to not come to the ANU, you must withdraw by the dates indicated
in the ‘Important Dates’ section.

Important considerations
You should apply for accommodation before you are offered an academic place at ANU,
even if you aren’t sure if you will accept your offer of study.

You may receive an offer for a residence different to your selected preference and costs may
vary (e.g. you may have preferenced a catered residence, but you may be offered self-catered).

If you want to change or cancel your accommodation, please email accommodation services on
uni.accom@anu.edu.au or call on +61 (2) 6125 1100. Please provide your 6-digit application ID,
student ID and full name at the time of contact. Please refer to the ‘Important Dates’ section.
