DIANE AND JOE KNIGHT RAISE OVER
£15,000 FOR WOODLANDS HOSPICE!
Our members Diane and Joe Knight decided to
climb Mount Snowdon to raise vital funds for
Woodlands Hospice in Liverpool in memory of
Steven Knight, Diane’s late husband and
Joseph’s father. Steve sadly passed away on
15th March 2020 after a battle with Bowel
Cancer; he was just 47.
Wanting to do something to thank the whole
team at Woodlands Hospice for their
outstanding care, and to celebrate Steve’s life,
Diane and Joe decided to climb Mount
Snowdon and raise money for the Hospice.
With the support of their family and friends,
Diane and Joe raised an incredible £15,404.32
in total, and the Foundation was delighted to
provide £4,000 of that total in Double Matched
Funding.

Last year, the Race for Life took place on the 26th September and coincidentally this date also marked ten years since Sarah’s mum lost her battle to cancer, aged 57. Talking about her motivation to start running, Sarah said, “After being furloughed due to Covid-19, I started my running journey during the lockdown and given the personal importance of the date this particular race falls on, I felt it a fitting way to pay tribute to my mum whilst also raising vital funds that have been depleted this year due to the epidemic.” Sarah ran the 10k event in an impressive 1 hour and 59 seconds and raised an incredible £620. And with the Foundation’s Double Match Funding, Sarah’s fundraising total is £1860! Sarah continued, “I don’t find any run easy; every run to me is a challenge! So, when I’m running, and my legs start to throb and my ankles and knees hurt, I think about how tough mum was, and how I must have some of that in me – it keeps me going to the end! I’m really grateful to everyone who sponsored me and for the double match funding from the Foundation. After a year where vital cancer trials have been delayed, this money will go towards Cancer Research UK’s lifesaving work, funding laboratories, tests and treatments of all 200 types of cancer.” Huge congratulations to Sarah on a fantastic accomplishment!

We began working with WaterHarvest in 2019 and have since produced
a series of films and short video stories to bring what they do to life,
raising awareness of their impact.
Before the first film, WaterHarvest had no real
digital content and when the donors can't see the
impact for themselves, video is often the best way
to demonstrate the difference being made.
During 2019, we spent time on the ground with
WaterHarvest to understand how their projects are
funded and the impact the charity is having on
communities in rural India. Our first films show
the work the charity does and why it is so
sustainable. Since then, we have produced two
more films focusing on water and sanitation
education and the use of chaukas to help prevent
land degradation.
As a result of these films, WaterHarvest has seen a
significant increase in donations that are helping
them continue their vital work.

"Without the financial support of the Matthew Good Foundation we would
have had a real struggle to achieve what we did. The children thoroughly
enjoyed it, and the feedback from their parents has been fantastic. Our
weekly sessions made a real difference during what was an extraordinary
time, and on behalf of everyone at the youth club, we would like to say a big
thank you for supporting us."

CREATING PPE FOR NHS STAFF AND CARE
WORKERS
We were delighted to support Paul Haste, an
employee of DAN Shipping in Immingham who put
his 3D printer to good use to create safety visors
for NHS staff and care workers.
The Foundation donated £1,000 to cover the cost
of materials so Paul could create the much-needed
safety equipment. Since the lockdown began, Paul
provided masks to NHS staff at Grimsby hospital
while there was a shortage.
Commenting on the support, Paul said, “I wanted
to make a positive difference and support our key-
workers in these difficult times. However, I needed
support to do so. The Foundation’s funds enabled
me to purchase the materials I needed so I could
put my 3D printer to good use during these
challenging times.”

TWO EMPLOYEES IN HULL CHAMPION LOCAL
CHARITY AND DISCOVER INCREDIBLE LINK
TO THE JOHN GOOD GROUP
In October this year, the Foundation received two separate Championing Grant
Applications from different employees wishing to support a charity local to our Hull Head
Office – Butterflies Memory Loss Support Group. Butterflies provide much-needed support
to people with dementia, and their families and carers.
June Cooke founded butterflies in 2010 after her
father, George, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in
2008. She found there were services and support
available for the individual diagnosed with the
condition, but very little for their families and
those closest to them and limited access to
groups which welcomed both. It was this need
that was the beginning of Butterflies and ten

members who enjoy monthly social gatherings,
singing, walking, community events, day trips and
support for them and their families.
With two championing applications received, we
contacted June at Butterflies to share the good
news that Butterflies had been nominated to

MEET OUR TEAM
Our team is made up of employees of the John Good Group who are based all over the UK along
with members of the Good family. They work incredibly hard to support the work of the
Foundation and they do this on a voluntary basis alongside their day to day roles. Thank you all
for your continued support.
