Dear Prospective Students & Families,

Thank you for your interest in attending Harding Fine Arts Academy. We’re excited for 2021-
2022 school year as we welcome a new class of incoming freshmen and prepare for our 16th
year of providing a transformative public school education in the heart of OKC!

Harding Fine Arts Academy’s mission is to prepare students for college in an academically
challenging, arts-integrated environment. The vision for Harding Fine Arts Academy was
created by community leaders with the belief that a comprehensive education requires
much more than memorization. The world isn’t looking for people who can simply bubble-in
a test. We want to produce students who can actively apply what they have learned to
innovate and collaborate in the real world. Experiential curriculum, project-based learning,
and challenging academics are combined to prepare your child for higher education and life
beyond high school.

This application packet includes information about our mission, academics & arts programs,
important dates and lottery details. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to
contact our director of admissions and student support, Jamese Siranga, at 405-702-4322 or
jsiranga@hfaaokc.org.

We look forward to meeting you and your family as we begin this new chapter and journey
together!

Sincerely,

Barry Schmelzenbach, M.Ed.L
Superintendent

9th Grade Lottery and Wait List Information

Before the Deadline Application Deadline is
We begin accepting applications November 2020.
Application Deadline is Friday, March 5th 2021 at 4:30 pm. Friday, March 5th 2021
                                                                             at 4:30 pm
      The Lottery
After the deadline for applications has passed, all applicants with completed applications are assigned a
random number by computer. The computer then randomly selects these numbers giving us an
acceptance list and a wait list.
For the 9th grade lottery, priority is given to certain applicants in the following order:
o Group A- Siblings of current HFAA students and children of current HFAA employees
                 who turn in completed applications.
o Group B- Students who live within the boundaries of the Oklahoma City Public School
district who turn in completed applications. (In-District)
o Group C- Students who live outside the boundaries of the Oklahoma City Public School
district who turn in completed applications. (Out-of-District)
    • Those freshmen not selected in the lottery will go on a numbered waiting list.
    • Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
    • Students turning in applications after the lottery go on the numbered waiting list.

      Acceptance and Enrollment
Acceptance (or wait list) letters and enrollment information will be mailed within 7 business days to all
parents/guardians of students who submitted completed applications. If an accepted student does not
complete and return the enrollment forms by the designated date on the acceptance letter, then his/her
spot will be given to the next person on the wait list and the student will be placed at the end of the
wait list.

      Wait List
Those not selected for the lottery go on a numbered wait list. We will move down this wait list and
contact families as space is available.

10th, 11th & 12th Grade Transfer Students
Space for students transferring to HFAA is limited. After returning students are enrolled
(10th, 11th & 12th) additional student enrollment is based on the availability of a student’s
required/desired class(es). (It is usually the summer before we can determine availability of additional
transfer students.)

Harding Fine Arts Academy most for its kind people. The
truth is, Harding is a sanctuary of sorts, a haven. We arrive
treating our wounds from a violent and tempestuous
world. We wear our shields. our facades of danger and yet,
for the first time, we are treated not according to

where I could be me, and in truth it is where I found

CARLIE is currently attending the University of
Oklahoma. She is majoring in ballet performance
and chemistry pre-med, and minoring in French and
physics. She feels that the best thing about Harding
              are its teachers and staff.

“Every one of my teachers was always so willing
to help me and give me the best education
possible, which I am very grateful for,” she says.

Outside of academics at HFAA, Carlie was involved
in Oklahoma Close Up, Student Council, National
Honor Society, and the Student Ambassador
program. She also had the opportunity to take ballet,
modern dance, orchestra, visual art, photography,
and journalism as arts electives, and seven of
              Harding’s AP classes.

“Attending Harding for four years taught me to be
independent in my education as well as provided
me with the skills necessary to be successful in my
academic and artistic endeavors. At a large
university like O.U., it is necessary that you know
how to manage your studies, motivate yourself,
and do what is required to be successful, such as
              asking for help,” says Carlie.
