and finally falls asleep gently with his white

For this album, as for the previous one “The bear and the honey” (“L’ours et le miel”), the illustrations
have all been entirely made with embroidered fabric. All while following the nighttime routine of the
little bear, toddlers will learn the name of colors and will be able to identify with this character, as
soft and well-behaved as a plush toy.

studying textile arts, she decided to work freelance; first in textile creation, and since 2008, for the

                                                       by Louise Mézel
                                                       Album, 17 x 20 cm, 40p., 5+, 9.90 €

Roland is a charming little elephant, curious and
dreamy. He is no contortionist but he knows how
to roll up his trunk and lie on it, he also knows
how to twist his tail or bend his ears and even tie
knots with them so as not to hear the thunder.
He’s so afraid of it! He likes to do a lot of things
like watering plants, reading books, taking foamy
baths, making bubbles and eating cereals. But
what he loves most of all is telling stories!
First of a series, this album is funny and tender.
Louise Mézel’s deliberately clumsy but very
expressive childish stroke really brings this sweet
and benevolent little elephant to life.

Roland Léléfan loves reading, it’s his special
moment. In his library, you can find all kinds of
books. But what he likes most are encyclopedias
and dictionaries. Oh yes, he really loves
dictionaries. When he reads, Roland is sometimes
so absorbed that he nearly disappears in his book.
And other times, a fly or a rhino pass through,
bugging him and he has to change places. And on
occasions, he falls asleep on his open book!

“A few notes of color and the rhythm of the pencil... For me, illustration is like music: an
interpretation.” Louise Mézel is a young illustrator who graduated from ESA Saint-Luc in Brussels and
previously studied art history and literature in Paris and Rome. She works for numerous magazines
and has also produced many book covers. Louise Mézel has illustrated several youth projects,
including “Demain” (“Tomorrow”), selected and exhibited at the European illustrations contest of
Seine-Saint-Denis book’s fair (2013) and at the Ilustrarte Illustration Biennale in Lisbon (2016).

A funny and absurd tale, the cat Thingamajig is an
                                                  absolutely delightful text.
The cat Thingamajig lives in a family that includes
Dad, Mom and Babette. One evening, at supper,
Dad, scandalized, says that Cat Thingamajig eats
too much and that with what he eats we could
easily feed ten Indians. A thought that directly cuts
off the poor beast’s appetite. As he eats less and
less and becomes sad, the family starts to worry.
The Cat Thingamajig has heard of yogis in India
who eat very little, float in the air in their room and
can go out in the snow wrapped in a wet sheet, stay outside for three days without eating and then
come back in, still alive and even with the sheet totally dried... One day the Cat Thingamajig has a
vision...
The illustrations work wonders on this completely crazy, nonsensical (or almost...) text, worthy of the
great masters of the absurd such as Ionesco or Beckett. For young and old without moderation....

Gélatine, a mischievous little girl, wants her older
brother, Roberto, to spend time with her. But Roberto
is very busy. He is writing a novel on his computer, a
story for grown-ups by a grown-up, indeed Roberto
is no longer a child... He has no time to take care of
his invasive little sisters. But Gélatine is persistent, so
much so that Roberto agrees to read her one story, but
only one ! Then he goes back to his grown-up work.
Upset, Gélatine has her revenge by imagining with
Doudou, her plush toy, a story where she transforms
                                                  Roberto into an ugly toad...

First of a series, Roberto and Gélatine is a light and funny story about the relationship between siblings
in which all children (and parents) will recognize themselves. What a delight to see the couple “Albertine
and Germano” still work its magic. A true complicity in life as in work that you can feel in the link
between text and illustration, in the shared humor, in the playfulness and in the good spirit of the text.

As a young artist from Geneva, Albertine already exhibited her works several times. Since 1992,
she cooperates with many daily newspapers in French-speaking Switzerland. She teaches silkscreen
printing at the Superior School of Visual Arts of Geneva. She has been the first Swiss artist to receive
the Golden Apple in 1999.

Germano Zullo was born on the 16th of may 1968 in Geneva and got the swiss nationality in 1985. In
1990, he passed his degree at the Superior Commercial School of Malagnou. Then, he travelled during
two years across Europe and, from 1992 up to 2002, he worked as an accountant. Since 1996 he and
his wife Albertine (illustrator) have published many children books at La Joie de Lire editions. He has
also published some poems and erotic stories.

This comic book includes two top to tail stories
with barely any text. Both tell the story of two
men’s journey through the city, one during the
day, the other during the night. “Good morning”
and ”Good evening” are virtually the only words

of the character is. The colors evoke happiness, joy
                                                   and change in the routine.
With this album, the illustrator wanted to

for their inventiveness: from a young age, they

A comic designed a bit like a video game with, under each page, a sort of progress bar, like a timeline,
that allows you to know where the story stands. The smart and crafty characters are very endearing,
the story is funny, refreshing and full of adventures!
