Hello...
We’ve arrived at that time of the year again, the 2020 LSU Elections are finally upon us!
If you’re reading this and our Candidate Pack is in your hands, then evidently you are interested in
running for one of our Student Leader Positions at Loughborough Students’ Union.
Detailed throughout this Candidate Pack, is an in-depth description of all the things you need
to know about running in the LSU Elections, covering everything from the rules and guidelines
to procedures and regulations; basically whatever you need to know we’ve got you covered!
Whether you’re just taking a look or you’re dead-set on being a candidate, in this pack you will
find everything you need to stand in the 2020 Exec Elections!
Running to become a member of the Executive Team or a Section Chair is a fantastic experience,
(whether you win or lose), it will be something that stays with you for the rest of your life. If you
are lucky enough to be elected, then you will have gained a position working within the best
Students’ Union in the country; heading up either one of our superb Sections or being a Trustee of
the Union as an Executive Officer. Each of these opportunities are most commonly taken up at the
end of your studies but it’s also possible for you to take a year out (as a placement year or a leave
of absence!) to help shape the student experience at Loughborough.
Your current Executive Team are more than happy to have a confidential chat with you about any
of the roles and most importantly what it entails, as well as organising a shadowing session so you
have a chance to grips with it all! Think of it as a test drive to see if the role is right for you!
Interested? Just let us know and we’ll do the rest!
You can find our contact details at: lsu.co.uk/your-union/executive-team
All information covered in this pack will be available at: lsu.co.uk/execelections
In charge of all the practical day-to-day running of the elections will be your Acting Returning
Officer and Vice President, Darcey Dunne, oh hi, that’s me! If you have any queries not answered
in this pack, then I will be your first point of contact! Working alongside me are the fantastic
Elections Sub-Committee (an elected group of students from the Democracy and Representation
Committee) who are responsible for the organisation and administration of the Elections, Sue
Lucas (Head of Governance and Administration) and our Returning Officer Ceri Davies (Chief
Executive at Nottingham Trent Students’ Union) will have final say on matters deemed of extreme
importance.
If there are any further questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me via email or pop in
to the Exec Office (1st Floor of the Students’ Union, next to Welfare, Societies and Media).
So, what are you waiting for?
I can’t wait to welcome you as a candidate very soon!
