Mar 20, 2022 Third Sunday of Lent Pg. 8 Rector’s Corner Catholic Relief Services Assisting with Crisis in Ukraine “As tensions in Eastern Ukraine continue to rise, Catholic Relief Services, together with our partner Caritas Ukraine, stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and are providing assistance to civil- ians affected by an escalating conflict. At the same time, we recognize that the humanitarian crisis resulting from an invasion of Ukraine would completely overwhelm the capacity of the aid agencies in the region. The freezing winter temperatures, likely damage to health facilities and other vital in- frastructure, and the enormity of the civilian population in harm's way, could lead to suffering on a scale we have not seen in Europe in our lifetimes. We hope and pray that diplomacy prevails, and the situation comes to a peaceful resolution.” — Sean Callahan, CRS President and CEO The Church's support of displaced families includes, but is not limited to: Food distributions. Support with reception centers at Caritas offices, train stations, and transit hubs. Transportation services. Support with evacuation centers, which provide shelter, food and counseling services for displaced families. Evacuation of vulnerable children from conflict areas to centers in safe zones. Catholic Relief Services needs your help with the Ukraine Emergency. More than 2.9 million people in Ukraine are already in need of shelter, food and other emergency relief. Please help families desperate to survive. You can make donations online at www.crs.org. A second Collection will be taken up at all masses next weekend for Catholic Relief Services.
