11th Sunday in Ordinary Time June 13, 2021

Today, Most Pure Heart of Mary celebrates its patronal feast day,
the Immaculate Heart of Mary (or the Most Pure Heart of Mary).
Technically this feast day takes place the day before, on Saturday,
but Father has the authority to celebrate it on Sunday for all the
parish to take part. The Immaculate Heart of Mary celebrates the
beautiful reality that Mary was and is preserved from all sin and
therefore her heart beats only to love her Son, Jesus Christ. Her
feast day is attached to the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus,
which takes place the day before, drawing our attention to the two
hearts that beat as one. May Mary lead all of us to the Heart of her
    Son.

                                                                                 O Mary, conceived without sin,
pray for us who have recourse to
                                                                                              thee.

Prayer and Action is at Most Pure Heart of Mary this Summer!
Prayer and Action, or “PandA” as it is affectionately called, is a service retreat ministry that
provides teens the unique opportunity to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and His
Church while serving the local communities of northeast Kansas.
Prayer and Action consists of a six-person team of college students and seminarians who are
here from the beginning of June until the end of July. High school youth groups come each week with a few adult
chaperones. During the day, they work on service projects throughout the parish boundaries helping fix houses
and other properties. During the nighttime, they eat together and make time for community building, formation,
and prayer!
If you are interested in supporting Prayer and Action this summer, you can aid us in one (or more!) of three ways!
 1. Pray for us: Join us in prayer for our students, chaperones, and staff that the Lord may use this summer expe-
rience to expand our hearts for love of Him and of our neighbor.
 2. Donate meals, food items or cash donations: Around 40 students, chaperones and staff will be eating meals
each week, so consider donating a full meal, meal portions, snacks, or cash donations to assist our kitchen
    staff!
 3. Volunteer a property in need of assistance: Do you, a friend, or an organization you know of need assis-
tance? Yardwork, painting, minor repairs, cleaning, etc. Prayer and Action would love to help serve local
homes and organizations in the Topeka area at no cost!
For food donations sign-up and work site applications, visit pandakc.org. Work site applications will also be avail-
able at the parish office, Monday-Friday, 8:30 am- 4:30 pm. For questions email,

Recently, President Biden released his Fiscal Year 2022 budget in which he proposes to eliminate the Hyde
Amendment and some related pro-life provisions. Calling for elimination of Hyde in a president’s budget is un-
precedented. Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann, Chairman of the Committee on Pro-Life Activities issued a state-
ment expressing deep concerns, saying:
“I call on all government leaders to work toward a budget that truly builds up the common good of
all. This should include the many proposals in the President’s budget submission that seek to pro-
tect vulnerable people. And it must also preserve the Hyde Amendment and related provisions
which have protected millions of unborn babies, and mothers in difficult circumstances, from the
       tragedy of abortion.”

Without the Hyde Amendment and related policies, billions of taxpayer dollars could be used to pay for abortion
in the United States and throughout the world.
Don’t let our government make you pay for the taking of innocent human life. Contact the President and express
your strong disagreement with his decision to force taxpayers to fund abortion on demand. At the same time, tell
Congress to keep the Hyde Amendment and related policies and to oppose any bill that expands taxpayer funding
of abortion.
