THEFT
We understand that many retailers are concerned about lottery theft,
which is why we continue to update our best practices to help prevent
lottery theft. Please follow as many of the best practices as possible.
■ At closing each day: Remove dispensers or dispenser trays and
lock them up.
■ At opening and closing each day: Keep an accurate track of
scratch ticket inventory. Make sure you record the game, pack
and ticket number. Utilize SmartCount, the electronic sales and
inventory software, located on your lottery terminal. SmartCount
must be added to a terminal to use it. Contact Customer Support
at 651-635-8273, option #1, or your lottery sales representative
for additional details or to have SmartCount activated.
■ Do not store your inventory records with the tickets.
■ Never leave tickets unattended during business hours.
■ Do not place tickets on the counter as players ask for them. Place
tickets on the counter only after you receive payment.
■ Post the lottery phone numbers for reporting stolen tickets,

can easily access. Train your employees to call the lottery office
immediately if any tickets are stolen.
