Celebrating Our 31st Season - Charlotte White's 2019/20 MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION - Salon de Virtuosi
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the 31st Season of the Salon de Virtuosi!

We are delighted to continue the legacy of our founder Charlotte White by
offering a series of unforgettable concerts featuring the most talented young
musicians from around the world in intimate 19th Century salon settings
throughout New York City, where you will have the opportunity to hear
and get to know exceptional young artists who are destined to become our
future “greats.”

We celebrate the start of the season with our acclaimed Gala Awards Concert
on September 25, 2019 at the elegant Kosciuszko Foundation, where we will
present five of our 2019 Career Grant Winners in a special concert hosted
by the renowned musicologist and longtime Salon de Virtuosi friend Robert
Sherman of WQXR. Other highlights of the Fall season include our Autumn
in New York Concert on November 6, 2019 at the Liederkranz Foundation,
presenting a talented young American pianist/ composer and a rising young
American violinist, with a special guest appearance by 2017 Salon Career
Grant Winner Asi Matathias. Our Holiday Concert on December 12, 2019 at
the beautiful home of Elizabeth and Lewis Bryden at Hotel des Artistes will
feature a phenomenal 16-year old violinist and an exciting American clarinetist.
In the Spring we will continue our unique collaboration with the Consulates of
Hungary and India and will also present a concert at the Consulate General
of France, each featuring remarkable young talents.

As a special thank you to our Season members and benefactors, we are also
planning two bonus concerts. The first bonus concert will be held on January
23, 2020, at the home of one of our benefactors, where we will be treated to
the sound of a remarkable young Spanish pianist performing on a brand new
Steinway concert grand piano and an exciting 12-year old flutist. The second
bonus concert will be our Spring Song from Japan, featuring rising young
Japanese musicians.

In addition, we are planning two community outreach concerts at Mt. Sinai
Hospital and two educational outreach concerts at P.S. 51 and Grant Avenue
Elementary School, featuring our renowned alumni who will share their gifts
with the community and young students.

On behalf of our Board of Directors, we invite you to join us on this exciting
musical journey. We rely on your generous support to fulfill the Salon’s vital
mission of providing encouragement, performance opportunity and financial
assistance to our deserving young artists!

Please follow our website for the most up to date information.

With warmest wishes and looking forward to seeing you in the fall,

talented young musicians to help them achieve their full
potential to become tomorrow’s great concert artists,
thereby nourishing the finest spirit of artistic creativity to
help ensure that future generations will be able to enjoy
the refining and uplifting influence of great music.

Founded by pianist Charlotte White, the Salon stands at the
crossroads of great music and international culture. Each
season the Salon presents a dozen or more phenomenally
talented young artists from around the world at consulates,
diplomatic residences and other exclusive, elegant and
intimate venues that capture the charm and vitality of the
Old World music salon. The Salon has an outstanding track
record of identifying great talent: among the young artists
presented in the Salon’s earliest years are Gil Shaham,
Lang Lang, Philippe Quint, Karen Gomyo, Helen Huang and
Wendy Warner.

Following each performance, Salon members and guests
are treated to festive buffet suppers and cocktail receptions,
which contribute to the warm exchange between artists and
guests that creates stimulating and memorable experiences.
In the enjoyment of uplifting and exciting music, you will
also meet some of the most interesting people in New York!

The Salon is also one of New York’s most committed
supporters of young musical talent through generous
scholarship and career grants. At the conclusion of each
season, academic scholarships and professional career
grants of $5,000 each are awarded to selected artists,
providing them with vital financial support.

“I sincerely hope and trust that this unique
organization will continue to grow and thrive for
      many years to come.”

More tributes to Charlotte and the impact of the Salon

I admire Charlotte so much not only because she was such a
wonderful and successful artist, but a wonderful lady who advocated
supporting and discovering young music talents like me. Every time
I think about her, I always feel so inspired and grateful. She gave me
the opportunity as a young pianist to perform at the SONY Club, and
provided me the wonderful support of the Barbara Brookes Arthur
Diamond Grant last November. These events are critical to me and
young people like me. She represents the positive power of all of us,
and her great spirit will shine forever. – Wei Luo, pianist

“Charlotte was a remarkable woman in so many areas, but the
wonderful things she has done for so many young musicians will surely
be remembered with unique appreciation by all of us – young and old.
And thinking of age, she always seemed so young! And so enthusiastic.
It was not only an honor but also a great pleasure for us to know such
a vital, caring and kind lady.” – Gary Graffman

Charlotte for me was the embodiment of generosity and
sophistication. She hosted my very first house concert where she had
arranged for the venerable pianist Rosalyn Tureck to come hear me
play. She was always supportive of me and it meant the world to have
someone like Charlotte on my side. She is the reason young artists
like me have succeeded. I will always remember her and be forever
grateful. – Pitnarry Shin, cellist
