Presider: Blessed be God! Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!
People: And blessed be God’s Kingdom, now and for ever! Amen!
Presider: Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are
hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love
you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Opening Song: We Gather Together

                             We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing;
                            He chastens and hastens his will to make known;
                           The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing:
                            Sing praises to his Name; he forgets not his own.

                             Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,
                                Ordaining, maintaining his kingdom divine;
                            So from the beginning the fight we were winning:
                             Thou, Lord, was at our side: all glory be thine!

                              We all do extol thee, thou leader triumphant,
                              And pray that thou still our defender wilt be.
                                Let thy congregation escape tribulation:
                            Thy Name be ever praised! O Lord, make us free!

Presider: Let us pray: O God, you have taught us to keep all your commandments by loving you
and our neighbor: Grant us the grace of your Holy Spirit, that we may be devoted to you with our whole
heart, and united to one another with pure affection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Lord God Almighty, you have created all peoples to serve you in freedom. Give to the people of this land
a zeal for justice and the strength of forbearance, that we may make use of our liberty in accordance with
your gracious will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one
God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Gospel:     Matthew 5:43-48

Reader: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew.
People: Glory to you, Lord Christ.

Jesus said, ‘You have heard that it was said, “You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.” But I say
to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your
Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous
and on the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the
tax-collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than
others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Reader: The Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to you, Lord Christ.

pray for the people and purposes of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas. We pray for those who can worship
you this day only in secret, and those whose faith is known to you alone.
People: That your Name may be glorified by all people.

Prayer Leader: We pray for Andy, Jeff, Kai, and Hector, our bishops; and for all bishops, priests, and
deacons.
People: That they may be faithful ministers of your Word and Sacraments.

Prayer Leader: We pray for our nation and all the nations of the world, and all who sit in civil authority.
Grant us every gift to keep your law of love, serve the common good, and be bearers of the freedom you
promise.
People: That there may be justice and peace on the earth.

Prayer Leader: Increase in us our trust in you this day. Reveal your intent for each of us, and give us grace
to do your will in all that we undertake.
People: That our works may find favor in your sight.

Prayer Leader: We pray for those in need: for the poor, the sick, and the lonely; for all prisoners, captives,
and refugees; for those who live in places of want and violence; for those seeking purpose and hope. For
those without enough to eat or safe place to rest this night. For those who are afraid, and all who seek
your healing. We pray for those prayed for by no one else, and all we have promised to pray for. Make
us agents of your mercy and justice, and have compassion, we pray, on all who suffer any grief or trouble.
People: That they may be delivered from their distress.

Prayer Leader: Give to the departed eternal rest.
People: Let light perpetual shine upon them.

People:        Hear our prayer.

                                                      3
Prayer Leader: Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor.
All: Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and
deed; by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole
heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For
the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and
walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.
Presider: Almighty God has mercy on you, forgives you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ,

                                        The Great Thanksgiving

Presider: The Lord be with you.
People:         And also with you.

Presider:       Lift up your hearts.
People: We lift them up to the Lord.

Presider: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People: It is right give God thanks and praise.

Presider: It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you,
Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. For by water and the Holy Spirit you have made us a new
people in Jesus Christ our Lord, to show forth your glory in all the world. Therefore we praise you, joining
our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn
to proclaim the glory of your Name:

All: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might,
                heaven and earth are full of your glory.
                Hosanna in the highest.
                Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
                Hosanna in the highest.

Presider: We give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness and love which you have made known to
us in creation; in the calling of Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and
above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus, your Son. For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate
from the Virgin Mary, to be the Savior and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from
evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of
sin into righteousness, out of death into life.

                                                     4
On the night before he died for us, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to
you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.”

After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, “Drink
this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the
forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”

Therefore, according to his command, O Father,

All:            We remember his death,
                We proclaim his resurrection,
                We await his coming in glory;

Presider: And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, O Lord of all; presenting to
you, from your creation, the bread and this wine.

We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the Sacrament of
the Body of Christ and his Blood of the new Covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we may
be acceptable through him, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, put all things in
subjection under your Christ, and bring us to that heavenly country where, with all your saints, we may
enter the everlasting heritage of your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of
all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation.

By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty
Father, now and for ever.

All:            Amen!

Presider: And now as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say:

The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as
it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who
trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Presider breaks the consecrated bread…

Presider: Alleluia! Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us!
People: Therefore let us keep the feast! Alleluia!
Presider: The gifts of God for the people of God.

Communion is received in one kind only. The bread distributor will come to you where you are seated.

                                                      5
Song During Communion:           Amazing Grace

                                  Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
                                        That saved a soul like me!
                                   I once was lost, but now am found;
                                        Was blind, but now I see.

                                ’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
                                      And grace my fears relieved;
                                  How precious did that grace appear
                                        The hour I first believed.

                                 Through many dangers, toils and snares,
                                            I have already come;
                                 ’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
                                       And grace will lead me home.

                                   The Lord has promised good to me,
                                       His Word my hope secures;
                                    He will my Shield and Portion be,
                                         As long as life endures.

                               When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
                                      Bright shining as the sun,
                                We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
                                     Than when we’d first begun.

Prayer of Sending:
Lord, make us instruments of your peace. Where there is hatred, let us sow love; where there is injury,
pardon; where there is discord, union; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where
there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled
as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we
receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

The Blessing

Closing Song: Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah

                                     Guide me, O thou great Jehovah,
                                     Pilgrim through this barren land;
                                      I am weak, but thou art mighty;
                                     Hold me with thy powerful hand;
                                    Bread of heaven, bread of heaven,
                                        Feed me now and evermore,
                                        Feed me now and evermore.

                                                     6
Open now the crystal fountain,
                                 Whence the healing stream doth flow;
                                      Let the fire and cloudy pillar
                                    Lead me all my journey through;
                                   Strong deliverer, strong deliverer,
                                  Be thou still my strength and shield,
                                  Be thou still my strength and shield.

                                   When I tread the verge of Jordan,
                                     Bid my anxious fears subside;
                                 Death of death, and hell’s destruction,
                                    Land me safe on Canaan’s side;
                                   Songs of praises, songs of praises,
                                        I will ever give to thee,
                                        I will ever give to thee.

The Dismissal:
Presider: Alleluia! Alleluia! Go in peace, to love and serve the Lord!
