Louisville Water Treatment Plant Recognize by AWWA
  • The Louisville Water Treatment Plant team did it again! We were recently awarded the 2021
Wendell R. LaDue Utility Safety Award from the American Water Works Association (AWWA).
This accomplishment is a national award that is split into four categories based on
organizational size. Nominees are evaluated on the utilities’ safety for the past 5 years, safety
and health program best practices and answers to specific custom focus questions that can
      vary year to year.
  • There are over 4,300 utilities that make up AWWA (of course not everyone applies for the
award). The other 2021 recipients in the larger classes were Eugene Water & Electric Board
and Las Vegas Valley Water District. Typically, Louisville would be recognized at the ACE
Conference (AWWA International Annual Conference) but presentations were cancelled earlier
this year as a result of COVID.
  • A big thanks for Matt Fromandi and Trevor Depew as the WTP Safety Team Leads! They
developed, implemented and managed the current safety program and were the ones who
submitted Louisville’s application for the award. This was completely a staff-driven
accomplishment and one that all WTP team member should be proud of!

Annual Ice Cream Social
  • What better way to spend a hot summer night than eating ice cream with your friends? Over
200 seniors joined us on July 22 for the annual ice cream social at Community Park. Thanks to
Sweet Cow Ice Cream for donating delicious vanilla ice cream and Flatirons Health and Rehab
for donating all the tasty toppings. Also a big thanks to Mayor Stolzmann and City Council for
serving our guests! We loved seeing all of our friends again and meeting some new faces, as
well. We hope that you can join us again soon at some of our upcoming senior programs.

City’s annual Labor Day festivities. If you’re interested in helping out with either the Senior

COVID-19/Vaccine Update
  • Boulder County (including Louisville) falls under the State’s Mask Order, which has been
     extended until August 1.
  • The City’s policy on masks in City buildings remains the same – please wear a mask if
you’re not fully vaccinated (full details can be found in the Level Clear Reopening Plan.
o Masks are still required indoors for children age 2-11 at Louisville Recreation & Senior
Center summer camps and programs (please note that this is a City requirement,
but no longer a State or County requirement).
o If you’re unvaccinated, masks are encouraged outdoors when 6 feet of social distancing
             cannot be maintained.
  • Please continue to respect businesses that require you to wear masks in their buildings.
Businesses are still within their rights to ask patrons to wear masks and Boulder County Public
Health (BCPH) have made strong recommendations for businesses about requiring masks –
details can be found in their press release.
  • BCPH also strongly recommends individuals 2+ who have not been fully vaccinated continue
to practice social distancing, handwashing, and wearing face coverings when near members of
other households who are not fully vaccinated. They strongly recommend that children under
age 2 maintain six feet of distance from members of other households who have not yet been
fully vaccinated when outside of childcare or other school settings.
  • Boulder County is still under Level Clear, the 90 day observation period that runs until
August 16, but our case numbers and vaccination rates are very good.
  • The COVID vaccine is available for the general public, ages 12 and up. Coloradans 12
and up are currently eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine and Coloradans 18 and up are
eligible to receive the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
  • City employees are encouraged to sign up for the vaccine. To remove any barriers for City
staff who wish to get the vaccine, the City is allowing staff to get their vaccine during working
hours without having to take Public Health Emergency Leave (PHE) hours.
  • It typically takes 2 weeks for the body to build immunity after vaccination. That means you can
be infected from exposure to COVID just before or just after vaccination. Please keep wearing
your mask and practicing social distancing whenever possible.
