Hello Parents and Caregivers,
We hope you and your family enjoyed your holiday break. Things are settling-
in again here at school as we have been reviewing, reinforcing, and tweaking some
our routines to maximize our learning time at school while also maintaining a safe
and caring learning environment where all students feel a sense of belonging. We
would like to remind you about the following routines that are expected district-
wide:

 1. Students are asked to come to school as close to the first bell as
possible. Our morning bell rings at 8:40 each day. Unless you are a
breakfast student who is picking up their breakfast from the church at
8:35, students should not be arriving at school much earlier than 8:40 am.
Parents are expected to pick up their children as close to dismissal time
as possible. Our end of the day bell rings at 2:35 pm.

 2. Parents are reminded to carry out a Student Daily Health Check each
morning before sending their child to school. Do not send your child to
school if you answer “yes” to any of the health check questions. You can
find the Student Daily Health Check form on the first page of the
 district website (www.sd72.bc.ca)

 3. Make an appointment ahead of time should you want to meet with a
staff member. Again, we are limiting the number of adults in the building.
If a conversation in person is needed with a staff member please book
your appointment with Laurel and conduct a health check before coming
 to our school.

There is a lot of excitement amongst both students and staff with regards to the
learning opportunities that we are planning for your children for the next six
months of the school year. Know that we are all very grateful for all you do at
home to support your child’s learning. Wishing you all the best in 2021!

PINECREST UPDATE January 13, 2021 - Campbell River School District
What are we focusing on this Month at Pinecrest?

We are learning about BEAR as
 part of our Wildlife Wisdom
 program. The character traits that
 Bear exemplifies are:

 • Acceptance
 • Resiliency
 • Responsibility and
 • Self-Control

If your family has Bear photos you have taken or stories about Bears that
your family has encountered, we would love to see & hear about them!
Please send them to school with your child. It would be great to share them
on a bulletin board or during the morning announcements

Revisiting goals set for your child…
As part of the student-led conference
process in November and “parent-teacher
conversations” that followed, learning goals
were developed for and with your child. The
idea was to look at possible next steps that
your child can take to improve their learning
in an area or two. I had a visit yesterday
from Levi and Olivia; two students from
Mrs. Kennedy’s class. They were excited to
show me that they have met their goals!
Congratulations Levi and Olivia! How is your
child doing with their goals?

Literacy continues to be our number one academic focus . . .

Reading programs that meet students where One of our core learning

they are in their learning . . . beliefs as a district and a
 school is that students
 learn at different rates
 and in different ways.
With this in mind, we have
 put students into various
 reading groups so that
 the instruction they
 receive is tailored
 specifically for what they
 need to move their
 learning forward. Most of
 the reading groups are
 small in numbers. All
 support staff are involved
 in supporting each of our
 classrooms. Those
 students who need ‘more’
 practice will be getting
 that opportunity as well.
 We are all looking
 forward to seeing the
 results of our
 collaborative efforts in
 the coming weeks! Please
 remember that by
 reading to or with your

Dear Parents of Upcoming Kindergarten Students
Kindergarten registration will take place during the week of February 1st - 5th
- It is already that time of year when we start our planning for our next school year! If
your child will be five years of age by December 31, 2021, then parents/caregivers are
strongly encouraged to register children for kindergarten during this week.

- This year we are asking that you to phone the school (250)287-8805 to set up an
appointment to come in and register your child as we need to limit the number of adults
in the school.

- When registering you will need your child’s original birth certificate, BC Services Card
and proof of address to register as well as any legal documentation concerning custody
(if applicable). You will also need to wear a mask as well.

-If there are other families in your neighborhood with children turning five by Dec. 31st
please pass this information on to them as well.
We look forward to welcoming your child to Pinecrest

 • PAC meeting tonight, Jan. 13th at 6:30 in the ART room.
