Communication No. 2404
Personalized Helmet Short Track Speed Skating
a) Prior the start of the Olympic season 2021/22, ISU Members are requested to submit to the
ISU Secretariat the artworks and designs for approval of all helmets considering the
following limitations:
i. The Short Track Speed Skating helmets must respect the safety standard and shape
in accordance with ISU Rule 291, paragraph 1.a).
ii. No obscene or provocative designs and artworks may be used on Short Track Speed
Skating helmets.
iii. The designs and artworks shall not include or refer to, in any way, criminal, racist or
religious symbols on Short Track Speed Skating helmets.
iv. No fluorescent colors may be used on Short Track Speed Skating helmets.
v. The designs and artworks shall not use colors and/or patterns that are clearly referring
to sponsor logos or sponsor patterns/artworks on Short Track Speed Skating helmets.
vi. The designs and artworks on Short Track Speed Skating helmets may include national
country flags.
vii. In accordance with ISU Rule 102, paragraph 6.b), an advertising marking of maximum
30cm2 may be placed on top or on the back part of the helmet during ISU Events.
viii. In ISU Events, the Olympic Winter Games and Winter Youth Olympic Games an area
of 40 cm2 on the front part of the Short Track Speed Skating helmets shall be reserved
for use by the ISU. Also the side parts of the helmets are reserved for the Skaters’
helmet number and no other markings shall be placed on the side parts.
ix. In accordance with Rule 102 paragraph 6.b), iii) two (2) manufacturer trademarks
(maximum of twenty (20) cm2 per manufacturer trademark) are allowed on Short Track
Speed Skating helmets.
x. The helmet design and trademarks shall respect IOC Rule 50 for the Olympic Winter
Games and all other relevant IOC procedures and guidelines (i.e. use of Olympic rings,
OWG Logo, etc.)
b) The ISU will approve, at its sole discretion, the personalized helmet design and artwork.
No appeal or protest will be accepted. The same approval procedure as for the design of
uniforms/racings suits applies. In case of violation (design rejected, design not submitted for
approval) the concerned design/artwork will be partly or fully covered with tape. The ISU does
not accept responsibility for damages incurred when taping/covering the design/artwork on
the helmet.
1Helmet Numbers Short Track Speed Skating
Season 2021/22
1. Use of Dedicated Helmet Numbers
a) The dedicated helmet numbers shall be used at Olympic Winter Games and all ISU Events
(ISU Championships and ISU World Cup Short Track Competitions), except for the ISU World
Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championships where helmet covers will be provided.
b) Due to the cancellation of several ISU Short Track Speed Skating Events during the
2020/21 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the helmet numbers are assigned based on
the Overall Classification of the ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2021
in Dordrecht (until no. 34 for Women and until no. 44 for Men) and further on the Overall World
Ranking of the season 2019/20.
c) Skaters not listed in the table below will receive the next available number, after the helmet
numbers already assigned, the first time they will participate in an ISU Event during the season
2021/22, and such Skater shall keep this assigned helmet number for the rest of the season.
d) The black numbers on white surface will be glued as oval stickers of the size of 8 x 14cm
(height and length) on the left-hand and right-hand side of the personal helmets and shall not
be removed during the whole season. The ISU does not accept responsibility for damages to
the design/artwork on the helmet incurred when applying these numbers (stickers).
e) The numbers (stickers) will be provided by the ISU in accordance with the below list at the
first ISU Event of the season. For those Skaters not attending the first ISU Event, the number
(sticker) will be distributed at the first Event of the season when the Skater is attending.
