FACILITIES
Airstrip
The Narembeen Airstrip is located on the Emu Hill East Road. The airstrip is for
public use. All enquiries regarding the use of the Airstrip for take-off and landing
of aircraft should be directed to the Shire of Narembeen.

Aquatic Centre
The Narembeen Aquatic Centre is open from 1 November to 31 March. The
facility includes a 25 metre lap pool, learn to swim pool, tots pool and BBQ.

Caravan Park & Cabins
Located on Currall Street the Caravan Park and Cabins are operated by the Shire
of Narembeen. For bookings and information, please telephone

Cemetery
The Emu Hill Public Cemetery is located on the Emu Hill East Road, approximately

The Library is located at the Narembeen Community Resource Centre,
2/19 Churchill Street, Narembeen. Resources are regularly updated and specific
books may be ordered on request.
Recreation Centre
The Recreation Centre, operated by Narembeen Club Inc is located on Currall
Street and provides leisure and recreation opportunities to suit the needs
of the current and future population that are designed to increase community
participation and a better quality of life. The Recreation Centre is the sporting hub
of Narembeen, it is fully licensed to cater for conferences, sporting club events

Town Hall
The Town Hall is available for hire and with the addition of a kitchen is the perfect
place for your next event. Bookings for the Town Hall may be made with the Shire
of Narembeen.
SERVICES
ANIMAL REGISTRATIONS
Dogs
The Dog Act 1976 requires that all dogs be registered with their local Authority if
the dog is more than 3 months old.
Dog licenses are due for renewal on 1st November each year.
The Dog Act 1976 only permits the keeping of two (2) dogs over the age of 3
months and their young (under 3 months) per premise. An application needs to
be approved by the Shire of Narembeen to keep 3 or more dogs over the age of
3 months at a single residence.
As of 1st November 2015, it is compulsory for all dogs to be microchipped that are
3 months or older. Owners will be required to bring proof of microchipping at the
time of registering their dog.
Registration of dogs is the owners’ responsibility. Unregistered dog owners can
attract fines of up to $1,000.

Cats
In November 2011, State Parliament introduced the Cat Act 2011 to provide for the
control and management of cats and to promote and encourage the responsible
ownership of cats.
As of 1st November 2013, cat owners are responsible for ensuring the following:-
• Cats over the age of 6 months must be sterilised and microchipped
• Cats over the age of 6 months must be registered with their local government
annually; and
• Cats must wear a collar with identification and registration tags
Local Governments have the authority to enforce laws, administer fines, seize
cats and create local laws for cat control within their Shire.
Cat owners are encouraged to contact their local vet to arrange for their cats to
be sterilised and microchipped.

As a licensing agent for the Department of Transport, the Shire of Narembeen
can assist you with Vehicle Registrations, Driver’s Licences and Boat Transfers.

Boat Registrations
The Shire is able to process payments for boat registrations and transfers. If
you require further information regarding boat registrations contact the Marine
Section of the Department of Transport on 1300 863 308.
Medical Care
Narembeen is serviced by a doctor who operates out of 5/19 Churchill Street,
Narembeen on an appointment basis.The Narembeen Memorial Hospital is a
14 bed hospital which caters for general medical admissions and nursing home
patients. Frail aged and well-aged units are also available.
Private Works
Council’s plant is available for hire to residents and a limited amount of private
work may be undertaken on resident’s behalf. Prior to performing any private
works, Council staff must receive from the applicant a Private Works Authorisation
Form which is available from the Shire of Narembeen.
Requests for works of a minor nature may be directed to the Works Manager,
Arthur Cousins who will attempt to ensure that they can be undertaken as road
programming resources permit.

50Ranger
Narembeen ranger services are managed by WA Contract Ranger Services Pty
Ltd.
WA Contract Ranger Services attend the Shire of Narembeen on a weekly basis,
however a ranger can be reached by contacting Matt Sharpe on 0459 678 154.
Emergencies will be attended to as soon as possible and any non-emergency
related enquiries/requests can be directed/lodged at the Shire of Narembeen on
9064 7308 during the office hours of 8.30am - 4.30pm, Monday - Friday. All other
requests will be attended to on Ranger visiting days.
WASTE SERVICES
Recycle Bin & Rubbish Bin Service
Collection of green rubbish bins is made every Monday morning by Avon Waste
Management. Bins are to be placed on the side of the road verge on Sundays.
Collection of the recycling rubbish bins (yellow lid) is made every fortnight on
Tuesdays.
Aluminium Recycling
Aluminum cans may be left in the cages provided at Narembeen’s various
recreation facilities as well as at the Latham Road Collection Point. Recycling
cans supports the Narembeen Men’s Shed.
Glass Recycling
Glass may be delivered to Latham Road Collection Point (opposite the
Roadhouse).
Bulk Waste Disposal
Bulk waste may be delivered to the Shire of Narembeen Waste Transfer Station
located on the Narembeen South Road approximately 2km from the Narembeen
town centre. The transfer station is open Tuesday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday,
from 10am to 4pm.

which is available from the Shire Office.
Mobile Phone Recycling
Old mobile phones may be delivered to the Narembeen Community Resource
Centre, 2/19 Churchill Street, Narembeen for incorporation into the Mobile Muster
Program.
51BUSHFIRE INFORMATION
Fire Breaks
Rural Land:
Firebreaks 2.5 metres wide as follows:
• Immediately adjacent to and surrounding all cleared land subdividing all
cleared land into areas no greater than 400 hectares. Surrounding each
building, haystack, fuel dump or ramp
Townsite Land:
Firebreaks 2.0 metres as follows:-
Vacant lots in excess of 1,025sq metres as follows;
• All lots containing less than 2,025sq metres on boundaries and immediately
surrounding all buildings
• Remove all flammable material from fuel dumps or liquid fuel containers to a
distance of 15 metres
Restricted/Prohibited Burning Period
The following restricted and prohibited burning times are in place for the Shire of
Narembeen:-
Restricted (permit required) 19th September to 31st October
Prohibited 1st November to 31st January
Restricted (permit required) 1st February to 15th April
1st February includes grass and raked cereal stubble and header windrows of
non-cereal stubble including canola and legumes.
1st March includes header windrows, chaff dumps and stubble fires.
From the start of the restricted burning time to the 15th April, no person is allowed
to light a fire on a Sunday or Public Holiday.
Any questions about burning times should be directed to a Fire Control Officer as
listed on page 106 or to the Shire Office.

The Officers listed above are able to issue burning permits and inform you of
the laws and dates in regard to burning and required conditions. Community
members may also contact the Shire Office on (08) 9064 7308 for burning permits
and additional information.
SMS NOTIFICATION SERVICE
Community members are encouraged to register their mobile number with the
Shire of Narembeen to receive SMS messages on current weather situations
including harvest bans. Call or email admin@narembeen.wa.gov.au. to register.
RATES INFORMATION
Rates notices for landowners are issued in July/August each year.
Payment Methods
Payment methods are listed on rates notices and include in person at the Shire,
by mail or direct debit.
When making payment, please ensure the assessment number on the rates
notice is used as the reference number.
If you are having difficulties making your rates payment, please contact the Shire
of Narembeen on 9064 7308.
To be eligible to pay by instalments any outstanding arrears must be paid in full
when the first payment is made.
Penalty for Late Payments
(Section 6.5.1 Local Government Act 1995 – Penalty Interest)
Late payments of rates attracts a penalty of 8% per annum, calculated daily.
