In the incredible grief of losing Ben, she realized the live-saving, world-changing power of kindness. Often, people think of kindness as soft or weak, but her experience was the opposite – kindness was strong and courageous, and she wondered why we weren’t talking about it more! With her heart broken open, and a willingness to be more vulnerable than ever before, she set forth to honor Ben by celebrating the kindness that was not just allowing her to survive, but to thrive. And 19 years later, Ben’s Bells is inspiring and supporting the practice of intentional kindness throughout communities all over the world! Before becoming full time Executive Director of Ben’s Bells, Jeannette was faculty at the University of Arizona where she taught American Sign Language interpreting and discourse analysis. She holds a Master’s Degree in Linguistics from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., and is thrilled to combine her two passions — teaching and community building — in her role with Ben’s Bells. She has recently transitioned into the role of Chief Kindness Officer at Ben’s Bells.
