The National Dialogue Party Foundation and Principles The National Dialogue Party was established in 2004 by Fouad Makhzoumi, who was and still is a strong believer in the importance of the Lebanese citizens’ participation in the political process in order to move the country towards progress and prosperity on every level. But the chain of events that followed plunged Lebanon and the Lebanese people into major turmoil and lead to a ruling mob that was determined to marginalize people and distract them with various fear-mongering tactics and with the most distasteful di- viding instincts, to dig up things from the despicable past and make empty promises about a fictional future in an attempt to neutralize and alienate citizens, paving the way to robbing them of their rights and their money, out of the deeply rooted greed in this mob’s hearts and its desire to dominate, arrogate and be corrupted without deterrence or fear of consequences. Therefore, calling all citizens to a national dialogue is a necessity in order to refuse falling into the de facto darkness and avoid the hardships that have proved to be lead- ing us towards the current catastrophe we are facing. Today, the party is mobilizing people and guiding them back towards the essence of political life so they can remove this corrupt ruling class and take the lead in deciding their present and building their future.
Therefore, the party is calling all forces that oppose the ruling mob for a unifying national dialogue in order to reach a stable and effective solidarity, based on the following principles: 1- Integrity There is no place among us for any party or personality that abused public money and lacked transparency in public administration, instigating the financial, social and humanitarian catastrophe we are facing today. The unaccountability of the corrupt ruling mob allowed it to keep indulging in its corruption and to commit the most heinous thefts, depriving the state of its resources, at the expense of both good governance and the people they have impoverished and put out of business, causing them to despair of any possible reform. 2- Responsibility There is no place for those who take their responsibilities lightly while dealing with citizens’ affairs, preventing people from pursuing and defending their rights, marginalizing citizens by either bribing or fear-mongering them or by using all means to destroy the rule of law concerning people’s interests and public welfare. 3- Sovereignty Lebanon must be committed to the sovereignty of its entire territory and institutions. This calls us to remove all foreign powers that try to intervene in our national decision making process and anyone who doesn’t put the country’s interest above all else. 4- Progressiveness The world moves at a continuous and accelerating pace; which is why, the country and its citizens can’t have a future if they don’t keep up with this pace while staying true to their Arab roots and putting every development in the service of our distinguished presence and our society’s perseverance and prosperity. Therefore, ignorance, obsolescence, and anything else that is falsely extracted from a past to which we don’t relate, should have no place among us, for we long to be pioneers, receptive to an era worthy of our Arab identity, faithful to the previous generations that gifted us with an Arab renaissance that we are diligent to preserve and watch shine and that we refuse to let collapse into a fabricated dark age. 5- Respecting Diversity We are endowed with an enrichingly diverse society, for this organic interaction between contrasting components gave rise to a distinguished country, dubbed The Jewel of the East. Lebanon will not be based on an oppression among its components, but rather on the deep and genuine solidarity and the mutual enrichment between each of the factions incorporating righteous values. In order to achieve this civilizational integration, it is essential to reject every effort that seeks to dominate, oppress, deny others of their rights and prevent every attempt to control the country that belongs to everyone without exception, so that no individual could ever possess sole authority allowing him to obstruct or take decisions that serve his personal goals and not that of a unifying country. 6- Believing in Equality There are two types of equality: The equality between citizens in general, belonging to any sect or orientation, in order to achieve their full and undiminished participation in public life, which would ward off the dangers of getting trapped in subdivided, conflicting groups and thus disrupting all that is required for working towards the common good. The equality of women with men, in rights, duties and opportunities, allowing everyone to participate in facing this era’s challenges and meeting its requirements, in addition to breaking the country away from the depression and collapse caused by the ruling mob. Women should no longer be regarded as a secondary element in this battle, for this equality would bring about the required vitality that would create motivation and help restore the homeland. Based on these principles, we invite anyone who wishes to shun away the dark ages brought upon Lebanon by the de facto power to a serious dialogue, aiming at actively bringing the citizens back to the political arena, in the hope of putting vital decisions in the hands of the people, rather than having them submit to decisions made on their behalf.
