FROM THE PRINCIPAL
2021-2022 PILOT PROGRAM- Fall Creek Junior High and HIJH have requested to pilot a modified block
schedule like the one we ran this school year. We anticipate an even better year next year as we bring more
projects, labs, and collaborative learning back in the classroom. Longer periods will allow this to happen and
make it easier on students to juggle 7 classes. The schedule draft can be found here:
                 Proposed 2021-2022 Bell Schedule

STUDENT PICK-UP- Area businesses have expressed concern with FCJ students being picked up in neighboring
lots. We do not prohibit students from walking but ask they do not cross through cars. The safest way to pick
your child up is in the car line. If you have an appointment, sign them out early and walk them to your
car. We are working on the speed at which we get cars through the lot; please pull forward to the furthest
white line and exit by turning right on Olio. These are some of the items we can control to improve dismissal
for all.

MAIN OFFICE INFORMATION
ATTENDANCE REMINDERS
Attendance is very important to your child’s learning. Absences of any length interfere with student learning
due to the sequential process of concepts taught and the difficulty of completing make-up work. If absences
are unavoidable, we ask that parents please call the office, call the attendance line, or email the attendance
secretary when a student is not going to attend their zoom or in person classes.
The FCJH attendance line is 317-594-4398 or you can email the secretary at dpruett@hse.k12.in.us. Be sure to
include the reason for the absence. If you have a medical appointment, please provide documentation either
by scanning to the above-mentioned email or faxing to our school at 317-594-4399. An absence will be
considered unexcused unless the office receives notification from a parent/guardian. Thank you for
partnering with us to ensure your student has the best sequential learning process as possible.
Change in Attendance Procedure
Students who have chosen to be 'in-person" for their method of instruction (MOI) must attend school within
the building to be counted present. Students who are supposed to be attending in person, will be marked
absent if they are not in attendance at school. Assignments can be found on Canvas, but students will no
longer be considered virtual when they are absent. Please continue to call in your child’s absences no matter
his/her method of instruction.

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION
Students will not be permitted to join in person after selecting virtual after April 12th. Students who selected
in person as his/her method of instruction may select to return to virtual at any period; however, they will not
be allowed to go back to in-person. They will not be permitted to go back and forth between modes. The
flexibility that we were able to allow previously, will simply not be there as we end the year in this new phase.

FREE LUNCHES AT SCHOOL
Lunch is still free for all students if they get a meal deal. The meal deal is a choice of entree (hot, wrap, salad
or pbj) and they must get a fruit and/or vegetable (hot or cold). Milk is included in the meal deal but is not a
required component. This is the basic meal plan and not the extras like chips, bottled water, ice cream, etc., which
students still must pay for. Students need to remember to bring their ID cards to the lunch line.
We are pleased to inform you that the USDA waiver providing all meals to students for free has been extended
through June 2022. All HSE students will receive free meals through the end of the upcoming school year,
including any pre-ordered food packs. No further action is required to participate. Any a la carte options offered
at school are not free and would need to be paid for using the student lunch account.

LUNCH PROCEDURES
Please make sure that your student has their scannable ID card with them when coming through the lunch
line. All students have received a card and should be bringing it to lunch daily. The ID cards were given to the
students in their picture packets. Even if no pictures were purchased they would have received an ID card and
packet if they had their picture taken. Scanning of their ID cards ensures less time in line for all. Students
without their ID cards will be asked to step to the back of the line.
If your student needs a replacement card, please have them contact the front office.

COVID REPORTING
The district would like to encourage you to use the online form to notify the school of Covid situations
regarding your students. This saves numerous emails and phone calls. The Online Reporting is located on the
same web page as the Dashboard, but below is the link to the form:
