Festive Season Highlights 24 December Painting the sun, moon and stars at the Gallery This biscuit decorating masterclass celebrates the season with holiday bonding and gingerbread fun. Inspired by the life-enhancing light of the sun, moon and stars, this hands-on experience provides guests with the opportunity to express their creativity and sate their sweet tooth! Apsara Under the Stars in the Garden As the sun goes down, guests are invited for a pre-dinner cocktail and canapés. Then, embark on a culinary adventure with an exclusive three- course dinner under the stars. Showcasing the finest ingredients from the land to the sea, this evening’s menu features roast turkey, steamed dory with Champagne, vegetables Pithivier and a host of desserts. 27 December House talk by Darryl Collins at the Library Delve deeper into the history of Cambodia and the architectural story of Angkor's temples with Darryl's talk entitled ‘Vestiges: Rise & Fall of the Angkorian Empire’. An author and historian based in Siem Reap, Darryl Collins is an authority on Khmer civilisation, its arts, culture and architectural heritage. He writes on art, architecture and cultural topics and has authored the highly regarded monograph, New Khmer Architecture. 29 December Dinner by Moonlight on the Roof Terrace As the sun begins to set, climb the stairs to our rooftop hideway and prepare to indulge in a delicious barbecue feast. To the strains of local Khmer musicians, savour fresh water and ocean delicacies, premium meat, Khmer specialities and an assortment of sweet treats, prepared to perfection beneath the twinkling stars. 31 December Angkor Twilight Temple Dinner at Prasat Kravan Sure to be a festive highlight, Amansara will once again host its New Year’s Eve Dinner in the grounds of the 10th-century temple of Prasat Kravan. Beautifully lit and surrounded by jungle, the temple will witness an al fresco Khmer banquet beneath the stars, with live entertainment taking guests on a journey through Cambodia's performing arts. Aglow with 1,000 candles, the temple will host the Sacred Dancers of Angkor from the renowned Conservatoire of Banteay Srei and Phare, the Cambodian circus, who will perform as a delicious three-course dinner is served. The menu feature will Khmer specialities including Amok, Loklak, Saraman curry and a delectable array of traditional desserts. The evening's entertainment will culminate in the epic tale of the Ramayana, expressed through Sbaek Thom (shadow puppets), one of Cambodia’s oldest performance art forms. After the countdown, the evening will end with a Loy Pratip experience. Meaning 'to float a candle’, Loy Pratip allows guests to reflect on the past year, to free oneself of bad luck and negativity, and to start afresh and establish new hopes and priorities for the year ahead. 1 January First-Light Jasmine Blessing Ceremony at the Buddha Statue This personal encounter with Cambodia’s Buddhist traditions is the ideal way to welcome the New Year at Amansara. In a 15-minute blessing ceremony, one of the local monastery’s monks will administer a water blessing – pouring flower-infused water while chanting to purify the spirit – to instill a lasting sense of peace.
