awnings till I talked to (neighbors), who had their done by Ace. Highly recommend them – best
quality, great folks to deal with, AND they’re local if something messes up. #2 Had trouble with
older, poorly installed, undersized gutters. Allison advised regarding problem and removed and
replaced with larger size gutters and downspouts, including leaf guard. The job was done well
and for a reasonable price.

Comments: strongly recommend Danny Mundy for plumbing and electrical work. He lives in
Cabin Point, does a lot of local work and came highly recommended. Based on my recent
experience I would use him again for any inside or outside work - Danny came within an hour of
my call and did a great job on an emergency basis of finding and capping off a serious outside
water leak. He had to dig down 3 feet, pump water out, cut through major tree roots, remove 30-
year-old broken pipes and yard hydrant, reroute and replace pipes, install new shut off valves and
install a new in-ground water hydrant. Not only was his work timely, but very professional and
reasonably priced. He also cleaned up after the job and had great suggestions and advice about
various plumbing and electrical matters. Just a real pleasure to meet and deal with.

For those of you that haven’t signed up with a contractor yet, I have a recommendation. Troy
Wilkins 804-761-1587 will do a “typical” conversion for $1000. He completed the work at my
house last week and did a great job. I’d highly recommend his work; 2) Troy completed the
hookup for my property in CP. His price was fair ($1,000) and the work was completed when he
said it would be. The only delay was the final plumbing inspection by the county, which is
beyond Troy’s control.

Comments: For years our sliding glass door became more difficult to open-close almost to
immobility. The glass companies and contractors we called were mystified by the overwhelming
volume of slider running wheels available. Finally, we lucked into speaking with Mike Zacchini
in the service department of Allison's Ace Hardware in Lottsburg, who owned a window-door
business in No. VA before "retiring" in the NN. He correctly identified, acquired and installed
new roller wheels for our door efficiently and economically.

Comments: My Wife and I have had a 10KW grid-tied solar system for about 4 years now,
and it pays for itself (depending on the month) by providing most, if not all of the electricity
usage from Northern Neck Electric. We added battery-tied backup about 2 years ago, which
works like a large-scale UPS system so when the power goes out, it automatically switches
to batteries. It’s instantaneous and a lot of times I don’t even know the power is out. (These
are now called “hybrid systems, which are more expensive). Generally, I have been very
happy with it. The installer we chose was Scott Johnson at Advanced Solar in Lexington
Park. His cell phone # is 240-416-4030 and email is sjohnson@advsolartech.com. If he (or
anyone else comes out for an estimate), you’ll need to provide the bills from Northern Neck
Electric so that they can properly size a system for you. Scott is an honest person and will
answer phone calls and emails when you contact him. Generally speaking, a system
between 7.5 – 10KW is required in this area to provide any decrease in energy bills. Prices
have gone down over the past few years due to technology improvements, but expect to
pay about $20K. Payoff is about 10 years depending on the amount of energy you consume.
If you plan on selling your house, there are comps that can be factored in by the real estate
agent that add value to the selling price of your home.
It’s important to know that there is currently a federal tax credit of 30% that expires at the
end of 2019. It gets reduced by 4% each year, then goes away entirely at the beginning of
2022.
Tax Credit:
• 22% for systems placed in service after 12/31/2020 and before 01/01/2022
Expires: December 31, 2021
Another thing to keep in mind is: VA 56-594 Net Metering
Which states that any residential eligible customer-generator or eligible agricultural
customer-generator who owns and operates, or contracts with other persons to own,
operate, or both, an electrical generating facility with a capacity that exceeds 10 kilowatts
shall pay to its supplier, in addition to any other charges authorized by law, a monthly
standby charge. As a result, you shouldn’t consider any system over 10KW.

mounted antenna. I installed one recently, and get about 33 channels pointed N-NE. You'll get
DC, Baltimore, and the Tidewater area. If you have a rotor and point it West, you'll get
Richmond. I used a model HD8200XL antenna from www.xtremeSignal.com, which is rated at
70 miles. There are larger and more expensive (better) antennas up to 150 miles from
www.channelmaster.com. I chose the components, and worked with Brad Shuff to get it
installed. Total cost of parts depends on how much you want to spend, but I spent about $350
16(not including installation). If you're paying $100/month for cable or satellite, the switch to over
the air signals will pay for itself in a few months. Most all of the over the air channels are in HD
with a beautiful picture. There's also DVRs and program guides that are available if you're
