Welcome to Halton’s
First Mental Health
Festival!

                        6th - 14th October 2018

Including World Mental Health Day, 10th October
Mental health problems can affect anyone, any day of the year, but HaltonÔs Mental
Health Festival aims to raise awareness of mental health, tackle stigma people
experience because of mental health problems and encourage everyone to start
looking after their own mental health and wellbeing.
There is often a lot of confusion about what we mean when we talk about mental
health. Many people immediately start thinking about mental health problems or
mental illness - but this is only one part of the picture. Everyone has mental health and
 this can include:
¥¥ how we feel about ourselves and the people around us.
¥¥ our ability to make and keep friends and relationships.
¥¥ our ability to learn from others.
Being mentally healthy is also about having the strength to overcome the difficulties
and challenges we can all face at times in our lives - to have confidence and self-
esteem, to be able to take decisions and to believe in ourselves

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is about focusing attention on the here and
now, rather than thinking about the past or worrying
 about the future.
Practicing mindfulness strengthens the minds ability to focus, pay attention and
reduce worry. The more we practice the stronger the mind becomes. Being mindful
can help with sleep, anxieties, worries, stress, managing emotions, concentration and
behaviour to name just a few. The following FREE apps provide mindfulness programs
to assist children and young people and adults in dealing with the pressure, stress and
 challenges of daily life.
