(Happy Easter)
‘You are good, and what you do is good; teach me your decrees.”
Psalm 119:68
Dear Friends,
I’m excited to send you greetings this month and share a challenge issued by
Bishop Frank Beard. He is asking the IGRC Conference to be intentional this year
in memorizing Scripture. We’ve issued similar challenges here before, and I know
some of you are already faithfully memorizing Scripture.
This month I’m especially eager to share this challenge with you because of a
recent reminder of how easy it is to become agents of the Enemy. Author and
speaker, Juli Slattery, explains it like this: “God’s Word makes very clear what weoften refuse to accept: We cannot play by the world’s rules and God’s at the same time. We must choose which reality to live in.” Remember when Satan tempted Eve in the garden he played on her desire to be wise and godlike and then he planted doubt in her mind about God’s goodness and power causing her to believe a lie that she could pursue pride and also maintain her relationship with God. I firmly believe that our greatest weapon against Satan’s strategies is to fall in love with God and seek to live a holy and sanctified life. You grown leaps and bounds when spend time with Him in prayer and reading and meditating on His Word. Back to the challenge, Bishop Beard wrote: “Psalm 119 makes a strong case regarding our need to know God’s Word. It helps in our growth and spiritual development. We learn more about God. The word of God influences us and helps us in making difficult decisions. The Word of God strengthens our faith and helps keep us from sin. God’s Word provides light for our life journey." Psalm 119 is one of my favorite Psalms. I highly suggest reading it aloud alone and with others when time permits. It will take you about 15 minutes to read all 176 verses aloud. To help you start the Bible Memory challenge we included in this newsletter a sheet of Scripture verses suggested by our bishop. You’ll find memorizing Scripture easier than you may imagine. And more importantly, you’ll find great joy in reciting verses that you’ve hidden in your heart. Tip: Select one verse and read it aloud 3 – 4 times throughout your day and you’ll have it memorized in a day or two. The key to Bible memory is review. Keep reviewing one verse, and the next day add another, and continue that process at a pace that is challenging and comfortable. You may start with just 1 verse a week. The key is to start. This is more important than I can begin to express. You know that by God’s grace we have an opportunity as believers of Christ to be witnesses to a lost, hurting and dying world. We also have the responsibility to spend time with God in his Word and to know Him as a friend, so that on every occasion we can be “thoroughly equipped for every good work.” May you experience the goodness of God coming down like dew in all your relationships. You are loved, Pastor Mike
Scripture Memory Verses John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” 1 John 1:9 - “if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” John 14:6 – “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Revelation 3:20 – “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 - “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” Matthew 6:33 - “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Hebrews 4:12 - "For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double- edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." Acts 4:12 - “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Ephesians 2:8-9 - “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. Philippians 4:13 - “I can do this through him who gives me strength.” Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Hebrews 4:12 – “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double- edge sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joint and marrow, it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

Missed Sunday Worship? Did you know if you miss a Sunday Worship or want to hear the
message again you can visit HillsboroUMChurch.org/sermons or
Facebook.com/LoveHillsboroUMCCongratulations to Austin and Katlin Furness on the purchase of their first home at 20 Westwood Dr. in Hillsboro. The young couple have been busy cleaning, painting, and moving into their new home. Please feel free to send them a congratulatory note as they fill their home with joy, happiness, and the love of the Lord. Reading the Word Jennifer Whitlock is reading the Bible and she wants to share what she is learning with her church family. She discovered intriguing stories and rich history in the books of Exodus, Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther. In Exodus she learned about Moses, the great deliverer, leading the Israelites. In Ezra she read about the rebuilding of the temple and in Nehemiah the rebuilding of the Wall. And in Esther she learned about how Esther was adopted by her cousin, Mordecai, after the death of her parents. During this time in Persia, there was a royal official that issued a decree to kill all the Jews. Through a series of events, Esther, a young Jewish girl, was chosen as the Queen, and was used by God to deliver the Jewish people from the evil plot to destroy them. Feasting is a major theme in this book and seven banquets are recorded. Jennifer was especially interested in the Feast of Purim recorded in Esther 9, and still celebrated today and in 2021 Purim was February 25th. Martha Long wants to say to her church family: “Thank you so much for all the wonderful 93rd birthday cards sent to her on her birthday, March 6th!” Martha was overwhelmed by the thoughtfulness of so many remembering her on her birthday. May the Lord bless all of you abundantly! Congratulations to Ruth and Steve Ernst and happy birthday to Ruth on the birth of their Grandson, Henry Antonio Lopez, born on Ruth’s birthday, March 3. The proud parents are Rachel (Ernst) and Jose Lopez. Henry is also welcomed home by big brother, Oliver, 2 ½. Thanks be to God for yet another special miracle of life.
MISSION TO ADOPT
Luke and Mindi Armbruster have had many struggles as they have tried to bring another bundle
of joy into their lives. The last attempt was their sweet angel, Maradyth Sue. After countless
tears, long conversations, and heartfelt prayers they have come to realize God has a different
plan for them to expand their family.
Luke and Mindi have decided to try to adopt and are asking for their church family to pray for
guidance as they navigate through the extremely difficult and expensive process. Mindi has
started their Facebook page: Armbruster’s Journey to Adopt.
Watch in the near future for a puzzle piece fundraiser and future fundraiser to come.
They are also excepting monetary donations and they may be given to Luke or Mindi, Tami or
Jerry Moler, Michelle Brown, Peggy Cooper, or Chris Gutierrez in the office.
Luke and Mindi gratefully appreciate the power of prayer and support by their church family
and friends during this God lead journey.
