Voluntary Contribution
The college requests a voluntary contribution from students to support the
provision of a wide range of enrichment and extracurricular activities to help
you develop as an individual and increase success with competitive entry to
university, employment or higher apprenticeships.
The funding from the government makes it increasingly harder for us to
provide the range of activities we believe makes a difference to you being
successful. The voluntary contribution supports the offer of a wide range of
sports, physical activities, health and wellbeing services, Learning Resource
Centre extended opening hours during term time and holiday opening to
support revision, work experience, guest speakers, specialist workshops,
extended IT support so you can Bring Your Own Device, mini bus transport for
trips; skills competitions, academic competitions and volunteering
opportunities.
You can make your Voluntary Contribution via ParentPay here.

Brighton and Sussex Medical School Virtual Work Experience
This course provides a 'virtual' work experience for those looking to apply to medical
school. You will be introduced to the NHS before exploring the roles and skill sets of six
different medical specialists. Along the way, you will also consider some of the challenges
and wider issues doctors face.

Objectives of this course:
 Understand the organisation of the NHS in terms of primary, secondary and tertiary care
 Recognise the ways in which patients can access healthcare and how and why patients move
through different services in the NHS
 Become familiar with reflecting on work experience
 Develop and understanding of the roles of different types of doctor, including GPs, consultants and
     foundation doctors
 Appreciate the ways that a doctor and other healthcare professionals can manage patients
 Consider the typical training pathways and timelines in common branches of medicine
 Identify the most important skills and qualities that doctors should possess and be developing
throughout their career, and give examples of why these are so important
 Consider the biggest present and future challenges faced by the NHS
 Stimulate thinking into the wider considerations surrounding modern medicine, including politics,
     law and ethics

You can sign up for the virtual work experience programme here and please advise
Nichola Mannering in the Work Experience team when you have both registered for and
                                   completed the course.
