Poetry Class Syllabus:
Through the course of four weeks, participants will write four poems. Each week
we will focus on one of these elements: metaphors, turnings, lines, and fragments.
Participants will email the instructor their poems before each session, read them
aloud during class, and give and receive constructive feedback that focuses on the
sites of energy in the poem and its further possibilities. A selection of poems will be
provided a week in advance as possible models or inspiration for each poem.
Optional formal “scaffolding” suggestions (in parentheses below) will also be
provided each week for those interested in exploring form. All levels welcome.

Week 1: Metaphor (Free Verse)

Week 2: Turning (Sonnet, Sijo)

Week 3: Line (Villanelle, Triolet, Rondeau)

Week 4: Fragment (Sapphics, Haiku)

Writing a 'Legacy Letter’ Workshop
with Jay Sherwin,
founder of the
Life Reflections
Project
Writing a Legacy Letter Workshop
description:
This three-session course is designed to introduce the concept of “legacy letters”
and to encourage participants to craft their own legacy document. A legacy letter
(also called an “ethical will”) is a written personal statement, typically just a few
pages, that allows you to share your life lessons, express your values and transmit
your blessings to future generations. It also allows you to express gratitude,
request forgiveness or make amends. Writing a legacy letter requires some honest
self-reflection, but it's a rewarding experience that creates an enduring gift for
children, grandchildren, and other loved ones. The course includes discussion and
brief writing exercises; it will offer a model structure to help you complete your
own legacy document to share with family and friends.
3-part workshop on Zoom Meeting

 Thursdays – Feb. 4th, 11th, and 18th from 1:30-3 PM.
               Email Jena to register.
Wake Robin Photo challenge
20 cameras. One month.
                   Let’s see what happens.
What is the story of your art?
Get disposable camera from Jena, choose a theme, take pics. Return your
camera on Feb. 1st and work with Jena to create your ‘show’ in the
Community Center Lobby. These will be simple displays, two per week through
the spring. Photos will be displayed on white board set on easels and labeled
                               with your theme.
Email Jena if you are interested in participating - if we have more than 20 folks
interested, we will do a drawing for the spots.

We are working with Green Mountain Camera in South
Burlington to get film developed and have camera’s
                         recycled.
An opportunity to think about photography then and now, and the current
culture of being able to erase, re-do, edit, and alter to make our photos
immediately better. Might it be interesting to take a time machine back to
when we saw something we wanted to capture on film with no adjustments
or fixes? Or when we used to compose an image to our liking and trust the
moment. No second-guessing or “perfecting” – rather we trust our instincts
                              and act on them.
Here is a list of themes participants can
choose from to make their project:

I Get by With A Little Help from My Friends
                        Strange Days
                   The Rainbow in Winter
                 The Poetry of the Pandemic

Film script reading series
One script per month on Zoom

Tuesdays starting 1/5 from 1:30-2:45 PM.
This will be a fun informal way to see what it is like to read an
actual film script. Parts will be divided up in advance and
you’ll get the script in your mailbox, plus and email with a bit
of history on the film. We’ll read each week on Zoom. We will
switch up roles each week. Email Jena to register.
Our first film script will be:
INTO THE WOODS
Let’s go outside and become
acquainted with our trees this winter!
Tree Finding Challenge:

As part of Wake Robin’s 20th anniversary celebration in 2013, informative
tree markers were placed next to 18 trees on Wake Robin’s main campus,
but those markers are in storage for the winter. Can you locate the trees
without the markers? Try. All of them are near the road, parking areas, or
paths. In winter it’s hard to identify trees, but we have good maps that give
the names of the trees and their locations. To take part, email or call Jena
(jnecrason@wakerobin.com or 264-5107) and she will leave a packet with
more details/maps in your internal mailbox.

We’ll start on January 2nd, and you’ll have the whole month of January to
find as many trees as you can. When you have completed your journey (even
if you have not found them all) hand in your map and we will have a drawing.
Winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to Daikin Farms!
