   and Education Research (SyBER). SyBER consists of Westcliff
   University alumni, faculty, and students who share a passion for
innovation and collaboration and who have come together to present
    their preliminary and completed research on relevant topics.

 All SyBER sessions will be held in one Zoom link. Each concurrent
   session will be in a Zoom breakout room. For an optimal Zoom
experience, and the ability to move from room to room for the event,
          please be sure to update your version of Zoom.
ZOOM INSTRUCTIONS

1. To move from room to room, look for the Breakout Room button on the bottom
   of your Zoom screen. It may be in the More section.

2. Once you see the breakout room options, hover over the number of
   participants (in blue), and it will change to Join. Click Yes for Join SyBER Room.

3. To change rooms, repeat steps 1 and 2.

4. To leave the breakout rooms (to ask a question in the welcome room or
   to leave) go to Leave Room at the bottom right of the screen.

5. Select Leave Meeting to leave the meeting entirely.

6. Select Leave Breakout Room to go back to the welcome room.

   For any questions about the Zoom Breakout Rooms, you can go back to the
    welcome room at any time to ask the SyBER Tech Support person there.

                                 by Corrine Hancock, Chaos Coach
                                 Corinne is a globally recognized leadership coach and

                          by Dr. Gabriela Kleckova
        Dr. Gabriela Kleckova is a university professor,
         language teacher, teacher trainer, researcher,
      consultant, and materials developer based at the
University of West Bohemia in the Czech Republic. For
  TESOL’s 50th anniversary, she was named one of 30
 emerging leaders shaping the future of the profession.
          Gabriela Kleckova is the TESOL International
                  Association president for 2021-2022.

Creating International Relationships Within
A Distanced & Isolated Work Environment

As distance working has increased, it has become crucial for businesses to create
intentional relationships among employees as the physical distance has negatively
impacted intentionality requiring leaders to try new approaches in becoming
intentional leaders. This presentation will explain the value of intentional
relationships and how leaders can maintain a model of intentional leadership.

Using Bubbles to Assess COVID-19 Consequences
For Small Businesses
by Dr. Shinichi Hirokawa
The presenter will explain how the bubble concept can be used to study risks faced
by small businesses due to COVID-19. He will illustrate the concept with a specific
example involving a dental office and explain how a study can be carried out based
upon this approach while including a statistical analysis.

Developing Communication of International Students
In an Online Setting
by Dr. Tatiana Andriienko
With the growth of digital learning, effective online communication, teamwork, and
collaboration are skills that have become essential, especially for international
students. However, in traditional communication and ESOL courses, little attention
is devoted to developing these specialized skills. This presentation will present
participants with research regarding the use of focused exercises to enhance
interpersonal digital skills and emotional intelligence.

Researchers are just starting to investigate sustainability in a post-COVID world
and suggestions for how businesses should approach sustainability are emerging.
This presentation will cover important considerations for developing post-COVID
sustainability programs.

Sustainable Management in Construction
Operation Management
by Mohamed Sameer Mirza
Did you know that sustainable management in construction can significantly
improve the harm being done to the planet? The knowledge gained from the BUS
601 operations management course can be used to improve the procedure. This
presentation will highlight the process of construction using sustainable green
methodologies to preserve the natural balance of earth and benefit stakeholders.

Navigating through the Changing Contexts:
Critical Self-Reflection for Transformative Learning
by Professor Bhawana Shrestha
Do you think enough spaces have been provided for female educators to share
their narratives on how they navigated through the changing context during the
COVID-19 pandemic? This presentation will take you through a self-study done with
an attempt to explore the journey of navigating the emotions of working as a female
educator in the context of Nepal through critical self-reflection and will share how
they helped her realize her personal power to become a better educator.

Tracking Covid-19 with Artificial Intelligence
by Professor Kay Shamsa
Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming a powerful tool for tracking and treating
COVID-19 worldwide. Several U.S. institutions are developing new AI technology
or using pre existing technology for this very purpose. This presentation will
explain how AI can be used to curate and analyze large amounts of data to identify
high risk patients.

Robot Derm
by Paramita Bhattacharyya
The concept of developing artificial skin on a robot is relatively new. In 2019, a
group of scientists from Germany developed a system that combined artificial skin
with control algorithms and used it to create the first autonomous humanoid robot
with full-body artificial skin. It will facilitate more computing capacity through an
event-based approach.

Do you feel your meal plan is lacking in vitamins? This presentation will show you
a vitamin plan that is tailored just for you based on your DNA results. Participants
will learn about the current vitamin industry standards and a new innovation that
has the potential to change it.

Creating Community Through Co-Teaching
During the Pandemic
by Dr. Mary Broding & Jodi Consten
The co-teaching model pilot at Westcliff University during the 2020+ COVID-19
pandemic has allowed for the increased community, collaboration, creativity, and
engagement between students, faculty, and departments. This model sets a
precedent for community building and collaborative efforts across disciplines and
departments/colleges throughout the pandemic and beyond.

Keeping it REAL: Reimagining the Process-Writing
Approach Using Google Docs
by Dr. Mira Malupa & Jung-Hwan Lee
Using ample time to generate ideas, providing helpful feedback, and revising work
are important in developing writing skills. In the process-writing approach, both
teacher and students must work cooperatively and collaboratively to achieve the
desired writing product. In this session, discover how Google docs can help
enhance and reinforce the importance of ‘process over the product.’

by Emily Gamboa
This presentation will cover my research on the impact of the education system on
students of color, breaking down and analyzing equality versus equity, racism, and
the way students of color are seen when they are being taught in a predominantly
White education system.

Correlation vs Capital Structure and Returns
by George Cruz
Understanding stock price movement is crucial when making educated business
decisions and determining how this will impact a firm’s bottom line. This
presentation will explain the findings from a study on the TSX 60 Index and stock
returns to determine the rate of returns during COVID-19 and how firms responded
to the economic distress.

The True Cost of Education - Who Will Pay the Ultimate Price?
by Tiffany McKinnon
When instructors say, “use your time wisely,” is the time you’re using really yours?
This presentation will cover how COVID-19 made us reconsider our times' actual
worth. Participants will explore ideas to improve and adapt their lessons for dual
use online and in the classroom to optimize time efficiency for both the teachers
and students.

In this presentation, participants will learn how Estée Lauder is adapting to the new
norm, keeping up with competitors, and maintaining customer loyalty by presenting
its market and strategic analysis of the brand’s key product, Advanced Night
Repair Serum.

Dividend Policy in Financial Distress:
The Case of the US Airlines Industry
by Dr. Yvan Nezerwe
This presentation will explain a study done that assessed the changes of the
dividend policy in the US airlines industry during the year 2020. The year 2020 was
financially difficult for airline companies. Since profits are the lifeblood of dividends,
the ex-ante hypothesis of the study was that dividend payouts were reduced by
airline companies.

Managing Employer Health Care Payments
For Employee Health Insurance

The employee health insurance cost trend has steadily increased 8-10% annually
since 2015 (industry average). Healthcare consumerism, which can offset trend
projections, has not been a successful strategy.

 Tayler Henslick
 Tayler Henslick firmly believes that the individual employee is a
 company’s key to sustainable competitive advantage. As an admissions
 manager at Westcliff University with her MBA in Organizational
 Leadership, she works to provide the necessary resources to her team
 and students to reach their full potential.

 Dr. Shinichi Hirokawa
 Dr. Hirokawa holds a DBA in international business and an MBA in
 project management earned in the U.S. He published a paper on
 Japanese market development strategy and has co-authored a medical
 paper contributing to statistical analysis. He is a dissertation committee
 member and teaches business classes at Westcliff University.

 Dr. Tatiana Andriienko Genin
 Professor Andriienko Genin has conducted research in intercultural
 communication and translation strategies, history of communication, and
 teaching ESL oral communication skills. Professor Genin has authored
 five and co-authored three books and has published 70+ papers in peer-
 reviewed journals in the areas of intercultural communication, translation
 studies, and innovative teaching methods. Professor Genin holds a
 Doctor of Science degree in translation studies, a PhD in linguistics, and
 a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education.

 Dr. Karen Robinson
 Dr. Karen Robinson holds a Ph.D. in Industrial- Organizational
 Psychology and an M.S. in Clinical and Organizational Psychology from
 Alliant International University. Additionally, she holds a B.A. in
 Psychology from Wagner College in New York. She has over 20 years of
 higher ed teaching and research experience.

 Mohamed Sameer Mirza
 Mohamed Sameer Mirza has worked as a civil engineer for nearly two
 years on prestigious projects built in the city of Dubai, United Arab
 Emirates. He holds a bachelor’s in civil engineering with minor
 specialization in business management. Mohamed Sameer Mirza
 believes in gaining knowledge for a sustainable future.

 Prof. Bhawana Shrestha
 Bhawana Shrestha, a Ph.D. scholar at Kathmandu University School of
 Education, is exploring the answer to her research question, how to
 improve her practices as an educational leader. She is the co-founder of
 My Emotions Matter, an education initiative that works on emotional
 intelligence, and is a faculty at King’s College, Nepal.

 Samanth Vedamanickam
 Samanth Vedamanickam is a chemistry graduate, philosophy post-
 graduate and has a double master’s in business administration who is
 currently pursuing a doctorate in business administration. Samanth has
 over 15 years of experience in imports and exports and business
 administration. He is also a professional photographer specializing in
 wedding and astrophotography.

 Prof. Kay Shamsa
 Professor K. Shamsa holds an Engineering degree in Electrical
 Engineering from University of Southern California, a Master of Science
 degree in Computer Engineering from University of Southern California
 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Sharif
 (Aryamehr) University. She has done postgraduate research in the area of
 parallel processing & computer routing, published 2 papers, & conducted
 research in industrial control by microprocessors & microcontrollers.

 Paramita Bhattacharyya
 MBA, and PhD. candidate, Paramita Bhattacharyya has accomplished
 Business Paramita Bhattacharyya is a analyst / project manager with
 over 12 years of experience in requirement gathering, business and
 technical documentation, defining project roadmap, strategy planning,
 developing UML and ER diagrams, writing SQL queries, data mapping,
 writing design documents including HLD, DFD, FRS, Test plan, UAT,
 initiating JAD sessions and product management. Paramita is
 knowledgeable about customer preferences and market trends and is an
 effective communicator with an organized and analytical approach.

 Dmytro Malashenko
 Dmytro Malashenko is a full-stack software engineer who works for a
 grocery delivery company and volunteers for the Food for Everyone
 Foundation.

 Dr. Mary Broding
 SDr. Broding began her teaching career in 2005 and has been involved
 in higher education as a faculty member, program coordinator, and
 writing tutor ever since, most recently joining Westcliff University just
 over one year ago. She has a background in art history, English, and
 education.

 Prof. Jodi Consten
 Professor Consten is currently the Program Chair for the College of
 Education at Westcliff University. With 25 years of education experience,
 Professor Consten enjoys collaborating with industry experts to deepen
 learning, foster innovation, and transform leadership. She holds a
 master’s degree in administration and a Bachelor of Science in political
 science and is currently enrolled in the DBA program at Westcliff.

 Dr. Mira Malupa
 Mira Malupa is an assistant professor at Westcliff University and is one
 of the first REAL Program instructors. She is an English language
 specialist for Poland and neighboring countries.

 Jung-Hwan Lee
 DJung-Hwan Lee is one of the first REAL students from Daejon City,
 South Korea. He is pursuing an MBA at Westcliff University.

 Emily Gamboa
 Emily Gamboa is currently an undergraduate attending Westcliff
 University and is majoring in education. She hopes to critically examine
 the educational system in order to change it for the betterment of
 students of color.

 George Cruz
 George Cruz is a doctoral candidate at Westcliff University. Before
 attending Westcliff, he received an MBA from Southern States University
 in San Diego and a BA in Accounting and Management from Lusiades
 University. He has over 10 years of experience in banking and financial
 services and has worked for U.S Bank and Wells Fargo in the past and
 is currently working as business development consultant at Comerica
 Bank in San Diego.

 Tiffany McKinnon
 Tiffany McKinnon graduated from the University of Minnesota where she
 studied Japanese and earned a bachelor's in English. She is an avid
 storywriter and illustrator in her off-time. Currently, she is pursuing a
 master’s in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at
 Westcliff University.

 Ana Lucia Gallo Luna
 Ana Lucia Gallo Luna is a pharmacist & current MBA student at Westcliff
 University. She has 2 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry
 and practical experience in production & quality control. She is working in
 a cosmetic & wellness product development consulting firm as a project
 coordinator. She is committed to developing a management career in
 business development in the pharmaceutical & cosmetic industry.

 Dr. Yvan Nezerwe
 Dr. Yvan Nezerwe teaches finance and economics courses at Westcliff
 University. He is also a Dissertation Chair for the University.

 Randy Nice
 Randy Nice has over 25 years of supply chain management experience
 and over 20 years of project management experience. He has managed
 over $1 billion in managed purchases along with has completed over
 1500 projects. Since 2012, he has led and managed teams which have
 saved organizations over $45 million and enhanced the quality of life for
 over 13 million people in the cities where the work took place.
