With approximately 44,000 students from over 130 countries, Lund is truly a global university. It is considered the best student city in Sweden thanks to its great student societies and traditional student nations. Lund is situated just 10 minutes away from Malmö, the third largest city in Sweden, and only 40 minutes away from Copenhagen airport, making it accessible for air travel. Sweden is considered one of the safest and most creative countries in the world, and is often ranked amongst the best places to live. Swedes have a very high level of English meaning students can experience Swedish culture without experiencing language barriers. Website: https://www.lunduniversity.lu.se/home What to expect Application process If you are allocated a place for an exchange at Lund University, you will be officially nominated by the Study and Work Away team and will then be provided with your detailed application instructions. You can ONLY apply if officially nominated. Type of Application: The application is completed online.
Notes of Guidance for Exchange students Lund University Academics Course/ credit load One full year of study should equate to 60 ECTS. One semester of study should equate to 30 ECTS. Courses available https://www.lunduniversity.lu.se/international- admissions/exchange-study-abroad/exchange- studies/find-exchange-courses Course enrolment Students meet with their coordinator to settle their Study Plans on Pre-Registration Day during Orientation Week. They should research their options prior to this meeting. Lund University offers courses specifically for Exchange Academic restrictions Students (SAS) as well as offering courses in English. You must check your eligibility for courses. Any student going through the general agreement to Lund should contact Lena Jonsson, International Officer, Division of External Relations, (lena.jonsson@er.lu.se) regarding course enrolments. Due to a limited number of spaces, the Faculty of Performing Arts, the Malmö Art Academy and the Faculty of Medicine admit students within specific faculty/department agreements. Admittance to courses in these faculties is not guaranteed even if students are eligible. There is a high demand for courses at the School of Economics and Management. Also 'economics' and 'business administration' are two different disciplines – please carefully read the explanations provided on the exchange course list for the School of Economics and Management and note that a full-time course load of Economics, Management and Business cannot be guaranteed. The School of Architecture demands 3 years of prior studies in the subject, as well as a portfolio. Industrial Design, Arts and Music demand previous studies and a portfolio as part of the admission process. Please research the suitability of Lund University for your Previous Students degree programme. Courses and programmes at your home and host institution may have changed since other students studied there. Private accommodation Off-campus housing: http://www.lunduniversity.lu.se/student- life/housing/accommodation-agencies Costs Estimated cost of living Estimated cost of living is 7,400 - 9,600 SEK Per month Insurance All exchange students are covered by “The Swedish State Insurance for Foreign Students”. There is no specific bank connected to Lund University. It is strongly recommended that exchange students make banking arrangements from their home bank. Notes of Guidance for Exchange students Lund University Other Employment Those with EU passports should not face any barriers to employment. Non-EU/EEA students face restrictions on the hours they can work and will need to apply for a work permit. For up to date information on working in Sweden after Brexit please see: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/living-in-sweden#working- in-sweden Lund University organises an Arrival Day each semester for Orientation new students. This date is usually the week before term starts. On Arrival Day, student mentors will meet international students from Copenhagen Airport and show you how to buy your train ticket to Lund. At Lund train station, student mentors will direct you to the free shuttle service to the Arrival Day venue (Medicon Village). You can then check in, receive your welcome pack and ask any questions at the Information Desk. The two weeks following Arrival Day are Orientation Weeks, similar to Freshers Week, where you can find out about the student societies and book to go on trips and learn more about the Swedish culture. The Orientation Weeks will take place both online and in-person.
