ABOUT SISTERS ON SAMUI
Sisters on Samui Foundation is a non-profit NGO, with Charitable Foundation status
(Thai Reg. 2/2564). We aim to support those in need on Koh Samui through
fundraising, community outreach programs and regular social events.
Our key initiatives for 2021 include initiatives such as
FeedSamui: a much needed food handout program to support local Thai,
Burmese, Nepalese and Rohingya families who have lost their income due to the
Covid pandemic.
Local Matters: a way for Sisters on Samui to support other causes and families in
need.
Community Gardens: providing financial support to setup and maintain gardens in
local villages and government schools to encourage sustainable living.
Marketplace by SOS: our very own charity shop, the place for new, pre-loved and
upcycled gifts, clothing, books and homewares.
Community Events: we aim to hold monthly ladies lunches, and other fundraising
events throughout the year.

FOUNDATION UPDATE
After preparing the paperwork and lodging the application in March 2021, we were
excited to receive the news in May 2021 that Sisters on Samui was given official
Foundation status. We are now an official non-profit NGO with charitable status in
Thailand (Thai Reg. 2/2564).
The official Foundation name in Thai is มูลนิธิสาวหมุยเพื่อสมุย, which is pronounced “muun
la ni ti saao mui peua samui” - which translates to “the ladies on Samui who are
helping Samui”.
Board of Directors
As at June 30, our Board of Directors include:
Khun Luddawan Lloyd (Khun Vicky)
Khun Natthanan Putthitunlak (Khun Pia)
Khun Rachadaporn Bambridge (Khun Ratchi)
We will be submitting some changes in September 2021,
Khun Rachadaporn Bambridge (Khun Ratchi) will be vacating her position. We're
so grateful that Khun Ratchi could give us a few months of her time, to help us get
this far.
Khun Rumphai Khamphoowiang (Khun Pai) will officially join the Sisters on Samui
Thai Board of Directors in September 2021.
Starting the second half of the year our Board of Directors will consist of Khun Vicky,
Khun Pia and Khun Pai. Collectively these ladies represent a vast range of skills and
experience as local businesswomen, and have that true thai 'jai dee' spirit of a Sister
on Samui.

FOUNDATION UPDATE (CONTINUED)
Advisory Committee
Our little team started this year as "the Board" of Sisters on Samui. But as we became

confused with our Thai Board of Directors.
The Advisory Board (formerly known as “the board”) currently consists of 4 key
members. Refer to page 5 for the Organisation chart, and our plans to grow the team.
Yvonne Roberts, Foundation Ambassador
Natalie Kamolwattanasoontorn, Manager - Community. Marketplace by SOS
Sandy Cacchione, Manager - Treasurer, Newsletter

The Advisory Board is supported by Claudia Wilkinson (support for Lunches and
Charity Shop accounts)
Lynne Lathbury heads our Green Sisters initiative and is our Interim Secretary.

COMMUNITY GARDENS
The "Green Sisters" have been going for a year now and in 2021 they have both said
farewell to some members and welcomed new members. Their new team is comprised
of Lynne Lathbury, Tammy Wade, Belinda Crossman, Cathy Curtis, Liany Garves, Katie
Beans, Mel Reilly, Jennifer Davis and Lorraine Clark.
Green Sisters has two main focuses so far this year, our EcoThailand/SOS Mushroom
Grant and our Lantern Project Grant.
Mushroom Grant
This has allowed them to repair and/or build mushroom houses in:
Bophut School
Wat Buntharikaram School
Baan Man Khong Village Gardens
Green Sisters has already spent 60,000 THB of the 100,000 THB budget allocated to this
project They have plans for 2 or 3 other schools and a community garden area but are
awaiting the children’s return to class. (Public Schools in Thailand new school year is still
in limbo due to Covid. A November restart is still outstanding with no known set school
return date)
This project is 50% funded by Sisters on Samui, and 50% funded by มูลนิธินิเวศวิถี
EcoThailand Foundation.
Lantern Project
Green Sisters was given the opportunity to farm some land in Lipa Noi so they:
Cleared the land
Planted and irrigated the land
Harvested for the local Burmese villagers
Year to date (July 2021) we have spent just over 43,000 THB of the 67,000 THB donation
received from the Lantern Projects. We have plans for a small community garden
adjacent to a school in Ban Tai called Ban Laem Hoi School with the remaining money.

MARKETPLACE BY SOS
Yvonne and her fabulous troupe of ladies spent a few weeks painting the stunning
murals in the space , Clearwater team led by Paul upcycled all the built-in and free
standing display furniture. A beautiful Swiss-made wooden desk and chair were
donated as our counter, as were curtains for the changing room, and then so many of
your donated items so we had stock. The community has been so generous to help us
give life to the space.
In June 2021 we employed a Thai staff member who is in the shop every day it is open,
along with our Volunteers. Employing a Thai, was a win for many reasons, she was
seeking work, it aids us for the legal running of the shop and she helps us build our
awareness with the Thai community.
The shop is supporting itself and has already proven its use as a great place for
community initiatives and to support other causes - like The Great Closet Clearout,
which is headed by the amazing Susan Field and Lynn Grebstad - what a great day
that was, raising them over 20,000 THB for the Samui Spay and Neuter's program.
We look forward to many more events, introducing workshops, market days, artists in
residence and fun times ahead.
Marketplace by SOS is open 3 days per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) from 11am -
5pm, and some Saturdays.
A big thanks to Juliette Burrows and Niki Kursakul for being so key in the opening
months of the shop.
It is a community space with 'What Buff' Café adjacent soon to be open after its
renovation, so grab a coffee and stop by.

COMMUNICATIONS
We have been revamping the Sisters on Samui newsletter and after a few different
trials we settled on a monthly edition. The goal is to update the over 770 subscribers
about our initiatives (#feedsamui, Community Gardens, Marketplace by SOS, Local
Matters), provide information about the development of COVID-19 and other current
topics of interest, local happenings and events. Sprinkled in are also some
entertainment sections, photos of past events, announcements and of course
thank-yous to our donors.
With people spending more time at home and, therefore, online, we thought it’s the
perfect time to launch a private Facebook Group for our ladies to connect. In August,
we have over 160 members taking advantage of the space to ask for
recommendations, get help with their questions, share events, post news and so on.
It’s also a good place to look if you’ve met new friends during a SOS lunch but didn’t
exchange contact details or if you’ve just moved to the island and want to make
connections. In the future we hope this grows into a Knowledge Base, where all the
important information about living on Samui can be found.
For Facebook and Instagram we are aiming for daily posts, covering our initiatives,
local information and current/special events. Our popular posts reach on average over
1k users on Facebook and 150 followers on Instagram, with the most popular post on
Facebook reaching almost 10k! From January 1st to July 31st we reached a total of
51,423 people on Facebook and 2,573 accounts on Instagram. Our Sisters on Samui
Facebook page is liked by 3.8k people and we have 596 followers on Instagram.
We also created a new Facebook Page for the charity shop, Marketplace by SOS. As of
July we have 259 likes and since the launch in May the page has reached 2414 people.
In the future we are planning to list available items online, packages of books, board
games, kids toys and other items available for small donations.
We have updated our Logo, it now includes
our Thai name of มูลนิธิสาวหมุยเพื่อสมุย, which is
pronounced “muun la ni ti saao mui peua samui”
- which translates to “the ladies on Samui who are
helping Samui”.
Proudly we now have a Thai name included on
our well known SOS signature logo.

COMMUNICATIONS (CONTINUED)
Lastly, we are also continuously working on our website. We have been updating our
blog more often and created a newsletter archive. By the end of this year we are
looking to update the ‘About Us’ page, with more details about the foundation, its
directors, board and volunteers.
We also set up email addresses where anyone can contact us concerning anything
related to Sisters on Samui.

THANK YOU TO OUR DONORS
None of this would be possible without the amazing generosity of donors in Samui,
Thailand and across the world.
Each month we are grateful for those who donate which enables us to continue to
support the community, which in the past 18 months has never needed us more than
they have ever before.
The average daily wage is THB400 which is approx. USD$12. Those few who still have
work, they are fortunate while many don't. So your donation of even half of that at
USD$6 can support a family for a week. For Migrants there is no local government aid.
Sisters on Samui team of volunteers and ladies who support our efforts in the
community through local fundraising we say Kop Khun Ka - Thank you for helping the
folks of Koh Samui through the Foundation's outreach programs efforts.
THANK YOU TO JULIETTE BURROWS
At the time this was going to print, Sister on Samui Ambassador
Juliette Burrows stepped down from her role, to take time to
head back to the UK for a while.
For over ten years Juliette and Yvonne have co-led the Sisters on
Samui group. During this time Juliette has given heart and soul
to the community through different outreach programs, and
been a dear friend to us all. For this, we say thank you.
We wish you safe travels Juliette, and look forward to seeing you
back in Koh Samui next year.
