Mr. Bhumesh Verma is the Managing Partner of Corp Comm Legal.Having started his career at
Ajay Bahl & Co. (now part of AZB & Partners), he went on to work with some of the best law firms
in India. He received the coveted Chevening Scholarship by the UK Government in 2000 where
under he studied in College of Law, York and was a visiting lawyer with Ashursts’ London office.
Later in his career, he became partner at some of the leading Indian law firms including Khaitan
& Co., Paras Kuhad & Associates and Link Legal.

His is a well known legal advisor to domestic and foreign clients on inbound and outbound
Mergers and Acquisitions transactions, Private Equity, Venture Capital, Foreign Investments,
Joint Ventures, Technology Transfers, External Commercial Borrowings, Corporate Structuring,
Strategic Advice, Entry Strategy for foreign investors, Regulatory Approvals, Corporate Advisory,
Due Diligence, Negotiation, Documentation for transactions (from MOU/LOI to Definitive
Agreements and post-closing) and related legal fields.

Besides his legal practice, he is a well-recognised guest faculty with premier law institutes on
corporate laws. He has also authored 2 books on Contract Drafting and is currently working on
some books on other subjects. His articles on legal and business issues are followed worldwide.

ThemeS
Corp Comm Legal, in association with Law League, is organizing the 1st National Essay Writing
Competition on Commercial and Corporate laws. The competition has been conceived to
encourage law students/ professionals to write on different aspects of Commercial laws and
their relevance in the present scenario. The competition shall accept papers on Contemporary
Commercial legal issues Focusing on any of the following categories:

      Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code- A panacea or mirage, the story so far
      Extradition of Economic Offenders- Effectiveness and Symbolism
      Ease of doing Business in India – A reality Check
      Corporate Governance in India
      Data Privacy law – living dangerously, a solution in sight?

Note: The sub-themes mentioned above are only suggestive. Authors are free to include any
issues within the main theme.

Eligibility
The competition is open to all law students enrolled in undergraduate or post-graduate courses
from any recognized university/college across India, law graduates and legal professionals /
academicians .
Submission Guidelines
1. General
Submissions may be only in the form of essays and should be in English.

2. Word Limit:
The word limit should be 1,500 to 2000 words. The word limit mentioned here is exclusive of
footnotes and abstract. Please note that the word limits will be strictly enforced.

3. Format:
Authors must strictly ensure 20th edition Blue book edition style of footnoting. Speaking
footnotes are strictly prohibited. The body of the manuscript should be in Times New Roman,
size 12 with 1.5 spacing. The footnotes should be in Times New Roman, size 10 with single
spacing.

4. Anonymity of Authors:
The manuscript must not contain any indication of the identity of the author or the college,
university, institutions etc. Biographical information of the authors is to be provided in a
separate document, including the following details: name, qualifications, e-mail address and
postal address.

5. Authorship:
Submissions are invited from undergraduate and graduate students, industry practitioners,
academicians and research scholars. Submissions may be co-authored, although by a
maximum of two authors. There is no requirement for the co-authors to be from the same
college/institution/ university/school.

6. Deadline:
The last date for registration and submission is March 20, 2019.

7. Submission:
Please send your submissions as a .doc or .docx file and biographical information in a separate
document with the subject title LL ESSAY: “Topic of the Essay”.

8. Plagiarism:
Only original essays will be considered for the competition. No part of it should have been
published earlier nor should it be under consideration for publication or a contest elsewhere.
Any form of plagiarism will result in disqualification of the paper.
