Cape Kidnappers NovEmbEr 9: NAPIEr (NorTH ISLAND) • CAPE KIDNAPPErS today, we transfer by chartered aircraft from queenstown on the south island to napier on the north island. we check-in to our five-star home for the next three evenings in Hawke’s Bay—the farm at cape kidnappers, where the service, atmosphere and scenery are incomparable. NovEmbEr 10: CAPE KIDNAPPErS GOLF: CAPE KIDNAPPERS spread over a dramatic landscape, cape kidnappers is like no other course in the world. tom doak created this prize-winning golf course on land perched 500 feet above Hawke’s Bay—a site that “belongs more to heaven than earth.” doak’s brilliant design is best demonstrated by just how naturally many fairways utilize the most scenic parts of the site and yet remain fully playable. generous fairways give way to challenging approach shots into complex greens. TOUR: GANNET COLONY & KIWI TOUR our morning begins with a trip to the splendid cape kidnappers gannet colony—the only place in the world to see the nesting place of over 20,000 gannets up close. as we watch these birds fly off the cliffs to dive deep for fish, our local guides explain the preening, dance performances and behaviors we witness. in the afternoon, we explore the area around cape kidnappers to find new Zealand’s national bird, the kiwi. semi-secretive and nocturnal, few new Zealanders have seen a kiwi in the wild. our guides lead us to a kiwi habitat, where we will be able view and hold these unique, flightless birds. TOUR: NAPIER AND HAWKE’S BAY WINERY after a morning exploring napier and its famed art deco architecture, we travel to Hawke’s Bay, the oldest established wine growing region in new Zealand, which is home to many of the country’s most famous vineyards. we taste fine wines paired with local specialties for lunch. The mountainous terrain in New Zealand
creates majestic views and breathtaking
scenery, but the narrow, winding roads
don’t make it easy to navigate these two
islands by land.
We comfortably and conveniently fly directly
to small remote airports in Napier and
Kerikeri, giving us a short ride to our
exclusive lodgings.
To access these most precious, out of the
way spots, which happen to be home to
some of the best golf in the Southern
Hemisphere, and to ensure ease of travel
for our small group, we charter a Fokker
F50, or similarly-sized aircraft,* from
Queenstown to Napier and Napier to
Kerikeri. The aircraft seats 48 passengers in
2 by 2 leather seats.
Our staff manages all of the luggage
arrangements, eliminating the hassles
of typical air travel, allowing us to
maximize our time at some of the best
accommodations to be found in this
island nation.
