The K2 Primary & Secondary Schools Snowboard Competition is for Year 1 – 13 students,
attending North Island Schools only. It is a Smoke, Drug and Alcohol free event.
COMPETITION FORMAT AND RULES
There are six divisions:          Open Boys                   Open Girls
                                  Year (1-6) Boys             Year (1-6) Girls
                                  Year (7&8) Boys             Year (7&8) Girls
Each School can enter a Boys team and a girls team, but it is not compulsory to enter both.
A Team consists of between 3 and 12 snow boarders. There are three events. Each School
is allowed to enter up to FOUR competitors in each event, with the Best 3 Boys results and
Best 2 Girls results counting towards the combined school total. Individual entries may be
accepted, after discussion with the Organisers.

The three events are:
Dual Giant Slalom – two timed runs on a Giant Slalom course on Day One.
Slope Style –tricks are judged in the Terrain Park on Day One.
Boardercross –four snow boarders, in a knock out competition on Day Two.
NB If the competition is abandoned due to bad weather, the Day One programme rolls over
to the next day.

SNOW BOARDING ABILITY
The Giant Slalom courses will be set for intermediate snow boarders, who may have had no
previous experience with gates. The Slope Style and Boardercross courses are more
technical. Competitors in these events, should be receiving training from professional
coaches.
HELMETS AND SAFETY GEAR
The wearing of approved safety helmets is compulsory during all three events. Competitors
must have all weather clothing. We also support the use of impact vests, wrist guards,
impact shorts, knee guards and mouth guards.

PRIZE GIVING AND SOCIAL
A prize giving will be held at Ruapehu College on Tuesday, 25 September, at 7pm, followed
by a Social/Games evening in the Ruapehu College Gymnasium. If the Wednesday Bad
Weather day is required, a back up prize giving will be held outside the Alpine Café at
4.30pm.
ENTRY FEE
The entry fee per team, ranges from $130 to $270, plus $70 per competitor for One Event,
$80 for Two Events and $90 for Three Events. NB If you have BOTH a BOYS & GIRLS
teams you are required to pay TWO TEAM FEES. Entry fees cover lunches for Course
Assistants, course preparation, administration, social events and event fees. Please check
whether team members have season passes before ordering passes.
LIFT PASSES
In 2018, we are NOT able to offer Lift Passes for Supporters and Reserves. We can offer
discounted 3-Day Flexi Passes for Competitors (24-26 September) @ $120 (normally $165
or $75/day), providing payment is made in advance. All 3 day passes are given out at the
Managers Meeting. Optional, Training Day passes are available on request for Sunday 23
September, sold as 4-Day Flexi Passes for Competitors (23 – 26 September) @ $160
(normally $192/4 Day Pass or $75/day) and must be pre-ordered and paid for by Monday
27 August so that tickets can be posted with confirmation details. Discounted passes may
not be sold for a profit, where a season pass is held.
REFUNDS
There will be No Refunds on Competitors Lift Passes as they are Flexi-Passes and can be
used after the event if there is a Closed Day, but must be used in the 2018 Season.
TWO ADULTS
A minimum of two Adults should accompany each team for safety reasons. For example if a
student is injured one adult should be with the patient while the other is responsible for the
rest of the team. We can offer a special 3-Day Lift Pass (24- 26 September only) for Course
Assistants @ $120 but these are not Flexi Passes and are not refundable.

CANCELLATION
If through circumstances beyond the control of the organising committee the competition is
unable to proceed, entry fees will be refunded less any portion of the entry fee required to
cover event costs to that stage.
WAIVER FORMS
Every Competitor must supply a Waiver Form signed by a Parent/Guardian
TRAINING
Managers should be planning training camps.

ADAPTIVE ATHLETES
Please include adaptive Athletes in your programmes.

ELIGIBILITY OR COMPETITORS – students must be:

   •   Enrolled as a bona fide student at the school of representation and studying at least
       80% of a programme that is part of the timetable provided by the school at least 4
       weeks prior to the event.
   •   Have a satisfactory attendance record at the school (Principal’s decision).
   •   The student must be under 19 years of age at the first of January 2018.
   •   All students must be in Year 9 or above for Secondary School section.
   •   Students who transfer from one school to another are eligible to compete provided
       they are on the roll of the participating school and have attended classes for at least
       4 weeks prior to the event. Dispensation for those who transfer within 4 weeks of the
       event is at the discretion of the organisers.
   •   All teams/students participating in the competitions must be under the direct control
       of a school and have a designated adult in charge, who is accountable to the
       Principal. The designated adult must assume responsibility throughout the duration
       of the events.
   •   Team entry forms must be signed by the Principal.

   •   Schools are encouraged to have teachers as managers and should bring an extra
       adult to cover injuries to students and dealing with any possible problems.

COURSE ASSISTANTS
Each Team must supply a reliable Course Assistant who is familiar with the upper field at
Turoa and is able to ski or board this area safely. Each team must also supply a second
Course Assistant to act as a Reliever. Failure to attend the Course Assistant meetings (7pm
– Sunday 23 September & am Alpine Hut) or leaving your position without permission will

JUNIOR COMPETITORS
Year 9 & 10 competitors will be recognised at prize giving while still competing in the open
events.
PRIMARY & INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL COMPETITORS
We are trialling the inclusion of Primary & Intermediate School Students into our event for
2018. The Primary School Managers Meeting will be at 6.30pm on Sunday 23 September
at Ruapehu College. Parents and Teachers will be excused Course Assistant duties to
supervise their competitors.
NISSSC HOODIES
Boardertown are designing a NISSSC 2018 Hoodie which can be ordered in advance and
will be delivered at the Managers Meeting on 23 September. There will be a separate Order
Form e-mailed to Managers next term.
ENTRIES
Entry Forms and Fees need to arrive by Monday 27 August. The Team Lists with Principal
and Managers signatures can be e-mailed or mailed to Jill.
The Event Entry: GS/SS/BX with competitors ranked 1 to 4 is sent separately using a
Electronic Document. Please e-mail your Entry using the form supplied? You can amend
your Entry up until 17 September ie injuries.

  •   Provide your Accounts Department with a copy of the entry form as a GST receipt.
