OPPORTUNITY PROFILE SR. PROJECT MANAGER
THE REGION METRO VANCOUVER
Metro Vancouver is a vibrant collection of municipalities spread across the lower mainland of BC. Surrounded
by mountains, ocean, and fertile farmland, the region is a paradise for those who enjoy splitting their time
between lively urban environments and the great outdoors. The Metro Vancouver region is a place where it is
possible to go skiing, golfing, and sailing all in one day. Less than two hours’ drive to the mountain resort of
Whistler/Blackcomb, and approximately three hours to downtown Seattle, the region offers something for
everyone.

Based in Burnaby, BC, this opportunity also includes responsibilities for Simon Fraser University (SFU)’s Surrey
and downtown Vancouver campuses. Burnaby is centrally located within the heart of Metro Vancouver, only a
few minutes’ drive to both the North Shore and downtown Vancouver. With almost 200,000 residents, Burnaby
includes suburban and urban areas, and is home to freshwater lakes, forested parks, and an ocean beach.

Surrey is BC’s second-largest city and one of the fastest growing cities in Canada; it is expected to surpass the
City of Vancouver as BC’s largest city within the next ten years. With over 6,000 acres of parkland, Surrey is
home to a diverse array of cultural communities and has a vibrant arts and cultural scene. Connected to the
rest of the Lower Mainland by an extensive transit network, Surrey has become a preferred destination for
newcomers to the Lower Mainland.

With just over 600,000 residents, Vancouver is home to an ethnically and linguistically diverse community and
is consistently ranked as one of the world’s most liveable cities. Described as “Manhattan with mountains,”
locals take advantage of the temperate climate by spending their time at the city’s many parks and beaches
and on the waterfront Seawall, as well as enjoying the city’s world-class restaurants, shopping destinations, and
cultural events.

THE INSTITUTION SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY
With 6,500 faculty and staff, 35,000 students and 145 undergraduate, graduate and professional programs

spanning eight faculties, SFU is the place where innovative education, cutting-edge research and community

outreach collide. With a vision to be Canada’s most community-engaged research university, SFU has been

consistently ranked as one of Canada’s top three comprehensive universities for almost 20 years. SFU’s more

than 100,000 graduates enjoy limitless career opportunities, made possible by mentorship, integrated work

learning programs and coaching opportunities.

SFU spans three campuses across the lower mainland: SFU Burnaby, SFU Surrey and SFU Vancouver. Located

atop picturesque Burnaby Mountain, SFU Burnaby is the university’s main campus and is its research hub.

Designed by Arthur Erickson, one of Canada’s most renowned architects, the campus is as beautiful as it is

practical, as students and faculty are able to move throughout the main buildings without going outside.

SFU Surrey is the University’s newest and fastest-growing campus. Established in 2002, Surrey’s campus offers

hundreds of courses in a wide array of faculties, as well as a variety of continuing education programs.

Uniquely positioned to take advantage of BC's next great metropolitan core, the campus includes a community

plaza, flagship library, city hall, performing arts centre, and new commercial and residential developments

within walking distance of SkyTrain and bus access, recreation facilities and a large-scale urban park.

Located in the heart of Vancouver’s city centre, SFU Vancouver encompasses six buildings located throughout

the downtown core: Harbour Centre, the Segal Building, the Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, the Morris J. Wosk

Centre for Dialogue, the Bill Reid Gallery, and 611 Alexander Street. SFU Vancouver offers both full and

part-time studies, as well as continuing education courses, across a number of faculties.

As SFU continues to grow, it has also continued to revise and expand its on-campus facilities. Students recently

approved a referendum to build a new Student Union Building and stadium, an approximately $50 million

dollar project currently in its infancy. To support its commitment to engaging research, SFU maintains a

number of laboratory facilities for research in all aspects of science, technology, and the health sciences. The

University also has a number of facilities to support an array of creative arts programs.
