Pop-Up Field Trip CLUB Sunflowers, Tractors, and More An even dozen PWCCers loaded into three cars on a warm, overcast morning and headed northwest to Sussex County in New Jersey. After meeting up at Yetter’s Diner in Augusta, for a light lunch, ©2021 Chuck Pine we drove to the first of our three scheduled sunflower fields—Brodhecker Farms. Although not as many acres of the huge, yellow- petalled blooms as in earlier years, there was plenty to shoot. In addition to the sun- flowers there were colorful bales of hay, farm animals and equipment, and lots of other stuff at which to aim our lenses. The other two fields were not as successful for us. The Liberty Farm/Sussex County Sunflower Maze was not yet ©2021 Ann Broder ©2021 Marvin Fink open for the general public (we were a day early). The Ridgeway Farm was not accessible due to the local (Hardyston Township) ©2021 Marlene Schonbrun annual tractor parade. As the saying goes, “if you’re given lemons, make lemonade.” So we did! The parade of 107 tractors plus police and fire vehicles passed right in front of us. This was a first for all of us city folk. Wow! Here are some of our best images. Enjoy! Club’s Night Out CLUB The Battery ©2021 Marlene Schonbrun Traditionally the first get-to- gether of every Club new year is the Annual Chuck Pine (Day Before) Labor Day Picnic and Bar-B-Cue. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic we couldn’t meet at someone’s home for the BBQ, so we gathered at The Battery to shoot, share tales of our summer’s activities, and maybe even have a bite or a sip More than a dozen Club ©2021 Virginia Lawrence members, along with a few of their spouses, showed up on this drizzly, overcast evening. Since we met at the SeaGlass Carousel, that was the first target for most of our cameras. From there we scattered to various areas of the park and its nearby environs to shoot the street performers, the harbor, the people, and whatever else caught our fancy. Yes, it was fun. However, maybe by next September ©2021 Elayne Dix things will be more normal and we’ll be able to celebrate the new Club year in a more traditional manner. (I miss the char of the hot dogs, the snap of the ears of corn, and the time to relax, chat, and catch up with old friends.) Continued on next page October 2021 www.ParkWestCameraClub.org 27

CLUB Fall Foliage Probably the best thing about fall is the leaves—especially here in the northeast (New England and the Atlantic states). The 2021 Fall Foliage Prediction Map will be your best friend! The map shown to the right is the prediction for October 11th. PHOTOGRAPHY My Best Shot In 1976, photographer Paul Joyce was working at The Photographer’s Gallery in London, which was then featuring an exhibition of work by the legendary Hungarian- French photographer Brassaï. When two other photographic legends—Ansel Adams and Bill Brandt—showed up, Joyce corralled them all on a bench and shot a portrait with his Gandolfi plate camera. “I didn’t need to put them at their ease. They just sat down and started to chat,” Joyce recalled in an interview From left to right: Brandt, Brassai, Adams. for The Guardian’s “My Best ©1976 Paul Joyce Shot” series.
