Planning a Football Trip to
Russia – 2019-20 Fixtures
Released
If you are planning a Football Trip to Russia, this post
provides details of the 2018-19 Fixtures and dates of key
games.

The 2019–20 Russian Premier League will be the 28th season of
the premier football competition in Russia since the
dissolution of the Soviet Union and the 16th under the current
Russian Premier League name. Zenit Saint Petersburg come into
the season as the defending champions.

As in the previous season, 16 teams will play in the 2019-20
season. After the 2018-19 season, FC Yenisey Krasnoyarsk and
Anzhi Makhachkala were relegated to the 2019-20 Russian
National Football League. They were replaced by FC Tambov and
PFC Sochi, the winners and runners up of the 2018-19 Russian
National Football League. Both teams will make their debut in
the Premier League.

Basic
The 16 teams will play a round-robin tournament whereby each
team plays each one of the other teams twice, once at home and
once away. Thus, a total of 240 matches will be played, with
30 matches played by each team.

Promotion and relegation
The teams that finish 15th and 16th will be relegated to the
FNL, while the top 2 in that league will be promoted to the
Premier League for the 2020–21 season.

The 13th and 14th Premier League teams will play the 4th and
3rd FNL teams respectively in two playoff games with the
winners securing Premier League spots for the 2020–201 season.

Under the current autumn-spring calendar, the league takes a
three-month winter break from mid-December until the end
February.

Here is where you can find the fixtures.

Planning a Football Trip to
Ukraine – Premier League
Fixtures Announced
Planning a Football Trip to Ukraine, the Premier League
Fixtures for 19/20 have been announced so you can plan
your Football Trip to Ukraine. This post has details.

The 2017–18 season is the league’s tenth after the
restructuring of professional club football in 2008 and the
27th season since establishing of professional club’s
competition independent from the Soviet Union. As of 2017,
Shakhtar Donetsk is the reigning Ukrainian Premier League
champion. To summarise, Tavriya Simferopol won the first
championship, while all the subsequent titles have gone to
either Dynamo Kyiv or Shakhtar Donetsk. Only 3 teams, Dynamo
Kyiv, Shakhtar Donetsk and Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk have
participated in all previous 26 Ukrainian Top League
competitions. The central feature of the league is a game
between Dynamo and Shakhtar which is developed into the
Klasychne (Classic).

Since the 2014 Russian aggression, the league was reduced to
12 members, while its format also has changed. The season is
still being played in a double round robin in the first half
of a season, after which the league splits in half into two
groups of six (6) teams. Both the top six and the bottom six
play another a double round robin tournament with the clubs of
own group.

The teams that reach the top ranks of the competition table at
the end of each season as always gain the chance to represent
Ukraine internationally in several prestigious tournaments
(continental club tournaments). Also at the end of the season,
the bottom clubs (usually two) are relegated to the First
League (part of the lower Professional Football League) and
replaced by the top clubs from that league. All the
participants of the Premier League enter the National Cup
competition and enter it at the round of 32 (1/16th of the
final) or Round of 16 stage. Also the winner of the League at
the beginning of every next season plays against the winner of
the National Cup for the Ukrainian Super Cup (under
administration of the Premier League).

Clubs play each other twice (once at home and once away) in
the 26-match season. The league begins in mid-July and ends in
mid-June. After 13 rounds of fixtures, there is a winter break
that lasts for three months (from early December to early
March). Thus, the winter break is significantly longer than
the interval between seasons. This schedule accounts for
climatic conditions and matches that of most European leagues
in terms of the beginning and the end of the season.

The UPL clubs General Assembly also adopted a post season
play-off mini-tournament for the last fifth berth of Ukraine
in the 2020–21 UEFA Europa League competition which will
involve the best team(s) of the relegation group.

Stadiums
Three teams play their matches outside of home towns. The
minimum threshold for the stadium’s capacity in the UPL is
5,000 (Article 10, paragraph 7.2).

The following stadiums are regarded as home grounds:

Planning a Football Trip to
Europe – 2019 Super Cups Part
2
Planning a Football Trip for 2019? This post has details of
Super Cups in Belgium, Holland, Poland, Croatia, Czech
Republic, Slovakia, Russia and Turkey to help plan your
Football Trips.

If you missed yesterday’s post we detailed the Super Cups in
Spain, Portugal, France and Italy to help plan your Football
Trips.

Super Cups were great opportunities to plan a Football Trip in
the Summer, usually the dates, venue and kick off time are
announced well in advance to enable you to plan ahead and get
good deals on flights and hotels. You also get a great game
with two top teams in one of the major national stadiums.

Belgium
The 2019 Belgian Super Cup is a football match that is
scheduled to take place on 20th July 2019 between Genk, the
winners of the 2018–19 Belgian First Division A, and Mechelen,
the winners of the 2018–19 Belgian Cup. The game kicks off at
19:30 at the Luminus Arena in Gent. The stadium holds 23,718
and was built in 1999. Heusden-Zolder played at this stadium
for their single season at the top level in 2003-04
Holland
The winner is decided in one match only, played by the winner
of the national football league (the Eredivisie) and the
winner of the national KNVB Cup. In the event of a team
winning both the Eredivisie and the KNVB Cup, the Johan Cruyff
Shield will be contested between that team and the runner up
in the national league. The match traditionally opens the
Dutch football season in August one week before the Eredivisie
starts.

The 2019 Johan Cruyff Shield will be the twenty-fourth Johan
Cruyff Shield (Dutch: Johan Cruijff Schaal), an annual Dutch
football match played between the winners of the previous
season’s Eredivisie and KNVB Cup. The match will be contested
by Ajax, as both the 2018–19 Eredivisie champions and
the 2018–19 KNVB Cup winners and PSV as runners-up of the
Eredivisie. The match will be held on 27 July 2019 at the home
of the Eredivisie champions Ajax, the Johan Cruyff
Arena in Amsterdam.

Poland
Annually held match between the champions of
the Ekstraklasa and the Polish Cup winners or, if the
Ekstraklasa champions also win the Polish Cup, the Cup’s
runners-up. The 2019 Super Cup is between Piast Gliwice based
in Gliwice, Poland. In the 2018–19 season, Piast won its first
Polish championship. They will play Polish Cup winners Lechia
Gdańsk who won the cup last year for the second year.

The game will be played on Saturday 13th July at 19:30 at
Stadion Miejski w Gliwicach in Gliwice. The stadium holds
10,037 spectators. The stadium underwent a complete
reconstruction which took place from September 2010 to July
2011 including the building of four new fully covered and all-
seated stands.
Croatia
The Croatian Football Super Cup (Croatian: Hrvatski nogometni
superkup) is a football match between the winners of
the Croatian First League and the Croatian Football Cup. The
Super Cup is always held at the beginning of a new football
season, and is only held when different clubs win the two most
important competitions in the previous season (i.e. the match
is not played when a club completes The Domestic Double).

In 2002 the Croatian Football Federation took over the
organisation of the Super Cup and made it an official single-
legged fixture, with 30 minutes of extra time followed by a
penalty shoot-out if necessary, which must be played a week
before the following football season kicks off. Since 2002,
the match has always been hosted by the club which won the
league title.

In 2019 Dynamo Zagreb will play Rijeka on Saturday 13th July
at 19:00. The game will be played at Stadion Maksimir, The
venue is primarily the home of Dinamo Zagreb, the top club of
the country with 18 league titles. First opened in 1912, it
has undergone many facelifts, and its current layout dates
from a 1997 rebuilding. Many of the Champions League’s
and World Cup’s games are played at Maksimir, which competes
with Poljud stadium for the biggest matches.

Turkey
The 2019 Turkish Super Cup (Turkish: TFF Süper Kupa) was the
46th edition of the Turkish Super Cup since its establishment
as Presidential Cup in 1966, the
annual Turkish football season-opening match contested by the
winners of the previous season’s
top league and cup competitions (or cup runner-up in case the
league- and cup-winning club is the same). It is going to be
played on 7 August 2019 between the champions of the 2018–19
Süper Lig and 2018–19 Turkish Cup, Galatasaray, and the
runner-up of the 2018–19 Turkish Cup, Akhisarspor. The venue
will be the Eryaman Stadium in Ankara.

Russia
he two participating clubs are holders of the Russian Premier
League champions title and the Russian Cup. If the Russian
Premier League championship and the Russian Cup are won by the
same team, then the other participant is the runner-up
of Russian Premier League. The match is played at the
beginning of the season, typically in July. The trophy has
been contested since 2003.

The 2019 Russian Super Cup (Russian: Суперкубок России) was
the 17th annual Russian Super Cup match which was contested
between the 2018–19 Russian Premier League champion, Zenit St
Petersburg, and the 2018–19 Russian Cup winner, Lokomotiv
Moscow. The final was played at VTB Arena. on the 6th July

Czech Republic / Slovakia

Superpohár) is an annual football match between the winners of
the Czech Cup and the Slovak Cup. The first Czechoslovak
Supercup was held on 23 June 2017 and the second was canceled
7 days before its scheduled start due to security concerns and
the Slovak FA’s unwillingness to postpone the match to a later
date. The 2019 cup took place last week between Spartak
Trnava and Slavia Praha on the 6th July with Slavia Praha
winning 3-0 at the Anton Malatinský Stadium, Trnava, Slovakia.
Planning a Football Trip to
Europe – 2019 Super Cups
Planning a Football Trip for 2019? This post has details of
Super Cups in Spain, Portugal, France and Italy to help plan
your Football Trips.

Super Cups were great opportunities to plan a Football Trip in
the Summer, usually the dates, venue and kick off time are
announced well in advance to enable you to plan ahead and get
good deals on flights and hotels. You also get a great game
with two top teams in one of the major national stadiums. In
recent years however it has become fashionable for the game to
be played outside the country and in the case of Spain at a
different time of year as the league’s seek to enhance their
global following.

Spain
The 2019 Supercopa de España will be the 36th edition of
the Supercopa de España, an annual football competition.

In February 2019, it was announced that competition format
would be changed from a two-team format, to a four-team format
which would include a semi-final round

The tournament will feature both finalists from the 2018–19
Copa del Rey and the remaining highest ranked teams from
the 2018–19 La Liga that had not already qualified through the
cup final.

La Liga have announced the tournament will take place outside
Spain from 8th to 12th January. More details to follow when
announced
Qualified Teams
     Valencia
     Barcelona
     Real Madrid
     Atletico Madrid

Portugal
The Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira is an annual Portuguese
football match played since 1979 between the winners of the
previous season’s league (Primeira Liga) and cup (Taça de
Portugal) competitions. In the case that one team has won both
competitions (i.e. the double, Portuguese: dobradinha), then
it will play again against the runners-up of the Taça de
Portugal.

The 2019 Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira will be the 41st
edition of the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira. It will be
played between the champions of the 2018–19 Primeira
Liga, Benfica, and the winners of the 2018–19 Taça de
Portugal, crosstown rivals Sporting CP, on 4 August 2019.

The game will be played at the Estadio Algarve located between
Faro and Loulé, in Portugal.

The Estádio Algarve stadium also hosts concerts, music
festivals and the occasional international friendly soccer
competition but has remained something of a white elephant as
neither local club have enjoyed enough domestic success to
attract sufficient supporters to make the stadium a viable,
commercial success. In fact, both teams usually play their
games in smaller stadiums.

Estádio Algarve is located 8 km north-west of Faro on the A22
highway to Loulé. The stadium has its own station, Parque das
Cidades, with trains to Faro (the next stop), Loulé (two
stops), Portimao and Lagos. From the station the stadium is a
15-minute walk.

France
The 2019 Trophée des Champions (transl. 2019 Champions Trophy)
will be the 24th edition of the French super cup. The match
will be contested by the winners of the 2018–19 Ligue 1, Paris
Saint-Germain and Coupe de France champions, Rennes. The match
will be played at the Shenzhen Universiade Sports
Centre in Shenzhen, China. The stadium has a capacity of
60,334 spectators.

Paris Saint-Germain are the six-time defending champions,
having beat Monaco in the 2018 edition.

Shenzhen is a major city in Guangdong Province, China. It
forms part of the Pearl River Deltamegalopolis. The city is
located immediately north of Hong Kong.

Italy
The 2019 Supercoppa Italiana will be the 32nd edition of
the Supercoppa Italiana, the Italian football super cup. It
will be played in the 2019–20 season by Juventus, the winners
of the 2018–19 Serie A championship, and Lazio, the winners of
the 2018–19 Coppa Italia.

It’s played around the world in recent years and this years is
in Saudi Arabia so not a great option for a football trip.
Last years was played in January and whilst the dates for this
years have not been announced I expect it to be similar.
Planning a Football Trip to
Poland – Ekstraklasa Fixtures
19/20 Announced
The Ekstraklasa is the top Polish professional league for
men’s association football teams (it is the country’s primary
football competition). This post helps you plan a Football
Trip to Poland with details of fixtures for 19/20 season.

Contested by 16 clubs, operating a system of promotion and
relegation with the I liga, seasons start in July, and end in
May or June the following year. Teams play a total of 37 games
each, totalling 296 matches in the season. Games are played on
Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. The winner of the
Ekstraklasa qualifies for the Polish SuperCup.

The season will start on 20 July 2019 and conclude on 17 May
2020. After the 20th matchday the league will go on a winter
break between 23 December 2019 and 8 February 2020. The
regular season was played as a round-robin tournament. A total
of 16 teams participated, 14 of which competed in the league
during the 2017–18 season, while the remaining two were
promoted from the 2017–18 I liga.

Each team played a total of 30 matches, half at home and half
away. After the 30th round (in the beginning of April 2019),
the league was split into two groups: championship round (top
eight teams) and relegation round (bottom eight teams). Each
team played 7 more games (teams ranked 1 to 4 and 9 to 12
played four times at home). Therefore each team played a total
of 37 matches. The team at the top of the Championship round
won the league title. However, the rules for promotion and
relegation from the league will be changed: starting from the
2019/20 season, three teams will be relagated from Ekstraklasa
to I league, while from the first league to Ekstraklasa two
teams will advance directly, while teams from 3-6 places will
fight in a play-off where the winner will be awarded with a
promotion to Ekstraklasa.

The defending champions are Piast Gliwice, who won their 1st
Polish title the previous season. The two clubs promoted were
Raków Częstochowa, returned to Ekstraklasa after 21 years, as
well as ŁKS Łódź, who make a return to Ekstraklasa after 7
years.

Exact dates, times, and channels of the broadcast during each

The region of Silesia has always been hostile towards the
capital city, Warsaw, a rivalry that is mirrored outside of
sport as well. This is partly due to quasi-colonial
exploitation of the region after 1945 by the central
government (or at least perceived as such in the region),
partly due to Warsaw strongly opposing any attempt for greater
autonomy for Silesia, and the hostility of the mining
communities (Upper Silesia being a predominantly mining
region) towards the ruling capital.

9th November – Legia v Gornik Z.

Three Kings of Big Cities (Lechia Gdańsk, Śląsk Wrocław &
Wisła Kraków) – Fans of Arka, Cracovia and Lech share a
friendship, known as “The Great Triad” (Wielka Triada). Fans
of Lechia, Śląsk and Wisła also shared a friendship called
Trzej Królowie Wielkich Miast and any match between the two
groups was considered a big rivalry[7]. Wisła then broke away
from the alliance and joined Elana Toruń, Widzew Łódź and Ruch
Chorzów fans, causing a massive rift in the Polish supporter
world.
