PRESI DENT MESSAGE
Happy May, CAPA! As President-Elect, I’m getting some practice and
delivering the President’s Message this month. I’m looking forward to serving
CAPA as your President beginning July 1st and here are a few of the reason
why…
Firstly, CAPA has some of the most talented, interesting and thoughtful
members that I’ve ever had the privilege of serving beside. From the
moment I joined CAPA in 2016 everyone I met was friendly, helpful and just
plain fun. The positivity and get-things-done attitude is evident
everywhere. Hmmm … seems a natural characteristic trait in paralegals.
Whether you serve as a board or chair, committee member, volunteer, sustaining or regular
member, you are an integral part of our success and growth. CAPA has truly enriched my
professional and personal life.
CAPA has always challenged me. I joined in 2016 in the hopes of learning more about this new
profession I’d chosen. Accepting the position of Programs Chair rather quickly, I barely understood
what I was supposed to be doing, let alone how to find speakers for CLEs, apply for CLE credit and
stand up in front of everyone to introduce speakers, GAAAAH! But I did it and learned so much,
primarily that CAPA has supportive and patient members that helped me learn the ropes and
figure out what I was doing.
Lastly, CAPA supports its members in so many endeavors whether that’s; the Membership
Committee reviewing student members’ resumes and offering cover letter writing clinics, numerous
opportunities to volunteer on various committees for personal and
career development, scholarships and study groups for paralegal IN THIS ISSUE
certification, networking and social events, and of course CLEs for
Notice of Election & Annual
professional development. Membership Meeting

Have you checked out www.capatx.org lately? The home page
shows you upcoming events, committee updates, and the latest
edition of The Brief. Everything you see on the site is maintained by
the web team. Currently we are a committee of three; myself, Jen
Rogers, and Ariane Walton. The web team adds events and sets up
email announcements & reminders, updates the members-only
Speaker Zone, and keeps the overall page content up-to-date.
Do you have a knack for creating engaging and visually interesting
content? Do you prefer to be behind-the scenes? The web team is seeking new
committee members that are willing to learn the ropes! You don’t have to be a
former head of IT, but a little tech-savviness and some experience as a CAPA
member is preferred. Please reach out to us at webteam@capatx.org if you are
interested in joining the web team or have any questions.
And you haven’t already, please connect with CAPA on social media.

Fun Facts - May Edition
Did you know?
It is the third and la st month of the season of spring.
The birthstone of May, the emerald, symbolizes success
and love.
May in the Northern Hemisphere is similar to November
in the Southern Hemisphere.
The Indianapolis 500 car race is held each year during
this month. The Kentucky Derby, the world's most famous
horse race, is also held on the second Saturday of this
month.
May was once considered a bad luck month to get
married.
The month May was named for Maia, the Greek
goddess of fertility.
In any giv en year, no month ever begins or ends on the
same day of the week as May does.
“ PUP P Y F EVER? ”
“LOVE ME!” Ireland’s President, Michael D. Higgins, and his adorable seven month old Bernese
mountain dog stole the show this week. A video of the duo has been making its rounds on
the internet, and viewers have fallen in love with the playful pup as he demands to be
petted, and requires all the attention as President Higgins tries to focus on an interview. It has
been viewed more than 250,000 times on TikTok and more than 860,000 times on Twitter.
