Summer Reading Challenge 2021
The 2021 Summer Reading Challenge will be a celebration of reading,
nature and action for the environment.

Our Challenge is set in the fictional place Wilderville, where six young residents have started to notice
environmental problems in their area. At first it feels like they can do nothing to help, but when they
work together, they discover that united they have the power to make Wilderville a place for people
and nature to thrive.
Wild World Heroes is brought to life with bespoke artwork from
top children's illustrator, Heath McKenzie.
FOR CHILDREN
1 Get started – Core Pack
This year's core pack consists of a fold-up poster and 3 sets of sticker sheets.
Each sheet will include 1 sticker with scratch and sniff ink.
Challenge participants will explore Wilderville and help the characters solve
the problems they identify.

There is space on the collector poster for children to keep track of the books
they’ve read as well as other fun activities. The collector poster is easy for
children to fold up and transport to and from the library.
Please note: Each of the three sticker sheets can be easily separated into two
smaller sheets (they are perforated), thus creating six mini sheets of
stickers if required. This gives greater flexibility for different numbers of
library visits and/or books read.

7 Kit Bags
These bags are big enough to carry books and they are often used as a special incentive.
Libraries may sell these to the public if they wish (see Library MoU for more details).
Green material with white lettering and white drawstring handles. Kit bags are not toys
and are unsuitable for children under 3 years.

Rewards for completers
8 Certificates
These full-colour A4 certificates will give children a real sense of achievement!

The certificates can be personalised for children and are suitable for PDATED
FOR 202
laser/deskjet printers. For authorities where it is necessary to have customised 1
versions (e.g. space for a signature from Mayor/Council Lead, or corporate logos)
a template certificate will be available to download by your authority’s
design team.

9 Braille Certificates - for children with Visual Impairment (VI)
These over-brailled certificates feature Wild World Heroes characters and are suitable
for children with VI issues. The colours on the certificate have been adjusted

Medals
Children really treasure these medals, and they can be given out at special
award events at the end of the Challenge. Gold finish, non-allergic metal
composition and packed in recyclable paper envelopes to protect
the finish during shipping.
Available as a themed Wild World Heroes 2021 medal (English or Welsh/bilingual)
and as a generic Summer Reading Challenge medal (English only).
Medals are not suitable for children under 3 years.

13 Pre-school 'Mini Challenge' Card
The pre-school card is suitable for children aged three years and under and is a great way
to encourage families with younger children to regularly borrow and read books over the summer,
especially if older siblings are taking part in the main Challenge.
The card features fun activities and has been designed so that
6 of the promotional stickers (item 5) can be used.

Prices
Please note: items featured in this brochure can only be supplied at the listed prices if we receive orders on a par
with previous years.
Service Charge
The service charge is £100.00 per authority, which principally covers distribution and also goes towards the costs
of creating and maintaining the online resources and website.
Invoicing
Invoices for promotional materials will be sent out after delivery. If you would prefer to pay in this financial year
(pre-April 2021), please tick the box on the order form to receive a pro-forma invoice. Please note it is not possible
to pre-date or post-date invoices. We are unable to process orders without a purchase order or suitable alternative.
In line with the MOU, receipt of a purchase order or suitable alternative by The Reading Agency is a commitment
on your part to purchasing these materials. No refund or credit note will be issued for cancellation of orders.
Additional materials and delivery points
Carriage and packaging to one delivery point per authority is covered by the service charge.
Materials delivered to multiple sites or materials ordered after your initial supply (subject to availability)
will incur a delivery surcharge. We endeavour to deliver items at the time indicated on the form but should you
change time slot for dropping off materials without giving 48 hours notice, this will again incur further charges.
Useful resources for library staff
Resources for library staff running the Challenge (including logos, clip art, activity sheets, school resources and
training PowerPoints) will only be available to Summer Reading Challenge 2021 purchasers and accessed via a
simple login after agreeing to terms in the Memorandum of Understanding. These login details will be emailed
to your main Summer Reading Challenge co-ordinator and can be shared with all staff in the authority.

The Reading Agency has a socially responsible trading policy. It sources a limited number of materials for the
Summer Reading Challenge overseas and uses suppliers who adopt the internationally accepted standards
set out in the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Base Code of Labour Standards.
Salvo Design and Print Ltd. is an FSC certified supplier.
Paper materials are printed using vegetable oil-based inks on paper manufactured
from post-consumer fibre or from FSC accredited responsible sources.
