COVID-19: Protecting you and yours
The HSE has developed new COVID-19 advertising
campaigns for Winter 2021-2022, in collaboration with the
Department of Health and the Government Information
Service. Our goal is once again to help reduce the spread of
COVID-19 this winter.

The campaign is informed by research on public attitudes and
behaviours around COVID-19 and in-depth qualitative research.
Some of the main insights from people who took part are:

• There is a general sense of cautious positivity about the coming months
and people are looking forward to meeting people and being social
• Most people know that we are still and will be living with COVID-19 into
the future and are prepared to do that
• There is some confusion around how bad symptoms need to be before
they need to be acted on
• There is room for a change of pace and tone from the messaging we
  have been running

Our new campaign has two themes:
1. Stay at home if you have symptoms
We aim to strengthen people‘s response when
they’re sick. To keep others safe we ask you to:
• Stay at home when sick
• Act quickly on symptoms and getting a COVID-19
  test

2. Keep protecting yourself and others from
COVID-19
New visuals and advertising on keeping hands clean,
masks, leaving space, staying at home if you’re sick.
We’re introducing a new ‘risk meter’ visual, which
we’ll use for this and other protective behaviours over
the coming weeks and months.

Thank you - campaign and assets
‘Thank you’ encourages people to stay home and act quickly if they
have COVID-19 symptoms. Our ads on TV, radio, cinema and social
media/digital show people saying thanks to someone who has stayed
away from work, a family party, babysitting. Watch the TV ad here

• Our message – if you have COVID-19 symptoms, stay at home and
get a test. No one will thank you for turning up sick.

Radio
From 1 November our radio ads are running on national, local and
digital radio. Listen to our radio ads here

TV, VOD and Cinema
Our TV ad has been on air since
28 October and will be played

Heads up - Campaign and assets
‘Heads Up’ is all about reminders – to keep hands clean, wear a
mask, leave space and more. The ads show a heads-up display that
acts as a reminder of the actions we all need to take. We also
introduce the ‘risk meter’ visual that shows risk rising or reducing as
actions are taken. Watch the TV ad here

• Our message - bring a mask, clean hands, wear a mask in shops
and public transport, take care when meeting friends

TV and VOD - our TV ad will be on air from 3 November.

Social media, digital and out of home advertising
Digital OOH advertising will run from 1 November in roadside and retail
locations across the country. Our digital display advertising is running
from 4 November and social media messages are always on across
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok. This campaign will
be used to highlight different behaviours over the weeks and months
ahead.
