Q U OT E S
“To stay away from Christianity because part of the Bible's teaching is offensive to
you assumes that if there is a God he wouldn't have any views that upset you. Does
that belief make sense?”
                                                                     — Timothy Keller

“When principles that run against your deepest convictions begin to win the day,
then battle is your calling, and peace has become sin; you must, at the price of
dearest peace, lay your convictions bare before friend and enemy, with all the fire of
your faith.”
                                                                  — Abraham Kuyper

"Grace is something more than “unmerited favor.” To feed a tramp who calls on me
is “unmerited favor,” but it is scarcely grace. But suppose that after robbing me I
should feed this starving tramp—that would be “grace.” Grace, then, is favor shown
where there is positive de-merit in the one receiving it."
                                                                    ― Arthur W. Pink

“Life with God is an invitation into a world where most of what makes sense to you
crumbles. It's far richer than you imagined, far less orderly and sensible, and far
more mysterious. Like Job, once you begin to see the wonder of it, you find yourself
awestruck and somehow, satisfied.”
                                                                      ― Mike Cosper
REVERENCE
Salutation
C: The Lord be with you!
A: And also with you!

Call to Worship
M: I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My
soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the
LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together!
A: I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed.
M: This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him and saved him out of all his
troubles. The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers
them.
A: Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in
him!
M: Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack!
A: The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the LORD lack no
good thing.

                                                                  Psalm 34:1–10 (ESV)

Prayer of Invocation

Song of Invocation
Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing
Come, thou Fount of every blessing, Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Tune my heart to sing thy grace;           Wandering from the fold of God;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing, He, to rescue me from danger,
Call for songs of loudest praise. Interposed His precious blood.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above. Oh, to grace how great a debtor
Praise the mount I'm fixed upon it Daily I'm constrained to be!
Mount of God's unchanging love. Let that grace now like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee:
Here I raise my Ebenezer; Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Hither by Thy help I've come;              Prone to leave the God I love;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,          Here's my heart, Oh, take and seal it;
Safely to arrive at home. Seal it for Thy courts above.

Scripture of Confession &
Confession of Sin
C: O LORD, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy
myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and
quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul
within me. O Israel, hope in the LORD from this time forth and forevermore.
                                                                         Psalm 131 (ESV)
A: Father have mercy - our hearts are restless within us. We see upheaval without
and wrestle against fear and turmoil within. In our anxiety, we chase personal peace
over your holiness. We sense the call of your presence but neglect the hard work of
turning towards you and away from our lust, envy, and double-mindedness. Hear our
prayers, and heal us for your namesake!

Time for personal prayer and reflection

Assurance of God’s Grace & Praise
M: You have not come to what may be touched, a blazing fire and darkness and
gloom and a tempest and the sound of a trumpet and a voice whose words made the
hearers beg that no further messages be spoken to them. For they could not endure
the order that was given, “If even a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned.”
Indeed, so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, “I tremble with fear.”
A: We have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly
Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the
firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits
of the righteous made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to
the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
                                                       from Hebrews 12: 18-24 (ESV)

Song of Assurance:
Of the Father’s Love Begotten

Of the Father's love begotten O ye heights of heaven, adore Him
Ere the worlds began to be Angel hosts, His praises sing
He is Alpha and Omega Powers, dominions, bow before Him
He the Source, the Ending He And extol our God and King
Of the things that are, that have been Let no tongue on earth be silent
And that future years shall see Every voice in concert ring
Evermore and evermore Evermore and evermore

Oh, that birth forever blessed Christ, to Thee with God the Father
When the Virgin, full of grace And, O Holy Ghost, to Thee
By the Holy Ghost conceiving Hymn and chant with high thanksgiving
Bare the Savior of our race And unwearied praises be
And the Babe, the world's Redeemer Honor, glory, and dominion
First revealed His sacred face And eternal victory
Evermore and evermore Evermore and evermore!

Sermon
1 Peter 1:22-25,2:1-3
1:22 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere
brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, 23 since you have
been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living
and abiding word of God; 24 for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the
flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, 25 but the word of the
Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to
you.
2:1 So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all
slander. 2 Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you
may grow up into salvation—3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.

1. Holiness develops by Christ’s winning plan.
2. Holiness deepens by Christ’s winsome process.

RESPONSE
Song of Response
Be Thou My Vision

Be Thou my vision, Riches I heed not,
O Lord of my heart; Nor man's empty praise,
Naught be all else to me, Thou mine inheritance,
Save that Thou art Now and always:
Thou my best thought, Thou and Thou only,
By day or by night, First in my heart,
Waking or sleeping, High king of heaven,
Thy presence my light. My treasure Thou art.

Be Thou my wisdom, High king of heaven,
And Thou my true Word; My victory won,
I ever with Thee and May I reach heaven's joys,
Thou with me, Lord; O bright heaven's sun!
Thou my great Father, Heart of my own heart,
And I Thy true son; Whatever befall,
Thou in me dwelling, Still be my vision,
And I with Thee one. O ruler of all.
Confession of Faith
C: What do you understand by the providence of God?
A: The almighty and ever present power of God by which God upholds, as with his
hand, heaven and earth and all creatures, and so rules them that leaf and blade, rain
and drought, fruitful and lean years, food and drink, health and sickness, prosperity
and poverty—all things, in fact, come to us not by chance but by his fatherly hand.

Congregational Response

C: Christians what is the mystery of the feast?
A: Christ was crucified and buried, heroically resurrected by the Father. Christ then
ascended and is now interceding through the Holy Spirit creating righteousness
where we previously knew only death!
