A Note from our NEW DIRECTOR
I am excited to have this opportunity to work with TRIO ETS at St. Olaf, and
even more excited to have the opportunity to engage with St. Olaf, our partner
schools, the community, and most importantly with you (the students!) When I
was in middle school, I was also a part of the St. Olaf TRIO ETS program and it
continued in high school at Humboldt. With the help of TRIO ETS and the many
opportunities it brought my way, I was able to attend the University of
Minnesota. This summer the TRIO ETS team will be working hard to make sure
that we are ready for the new year and creating a new experience for TRIO ETS
participants.
To our Seniors, we want to say congratulations to the class of 2021! This was a
year that no one anticipated and we are proud of all the hard work you put in.
Over the summer we will be reaching out to see how you are doing, if you have
any questions, and talk more about fall plans. Continue to reach out to your
TRIO ETS advisors.
The TRIO ETS program looks forward to seeing everyone in the fall for another year of college preparation!
TRIO ETS Welcomes Two New Advisors!
Hello everyone!! My name is Evelyn Aguilar, my pronouns are she/her, and
I'm SO excited to be one of the new Academic Advisors for TRIO ETS! I grew
up in Chicago and moved to Minnesota to attend St. Olaf College. I
graduated in Spring 2020 and majored in Social Work with a concentration in
Race and Ethnic Studies. My parents are from Mexico so I grew up in a
bilingual household :) I LOVE TRIO so much because I heavily relied on my
Academic Advisors to help me navigate my life in college! In my free time, I
love to cook, paint, read, work out, and do makeup. I'm always down to try
new things, so I will happily take any recommendations! I am looking forward
to meeting you all and getting to know you :)
My name is Benjamin (Ben) Xiong, and I am very excited to join the TRIO ETS
team this year as an Academic Advisor. I recently graduated from Saint John’s
University with a major in Asian Studies and minor in Computer Science. In
high school, I was part of Upward Bound and it gave me the opportunity to
explore different colleges. Without this opportunity, I would not have known
where to attend college. As a first-generation student, it was great to have
others to rely on and help me through the college process, and I want to help
other first-generation students go to college and give them the information
they will need.
In my spare time I like listening to music, going to the gym, fishing, hiking,
playing volleyball and traveling. Since many things were closed this year, I
found myself spending more time outdoors and enjoying nature. I also used
the time to bond more with my family and to learn more about myself. My
family is always my biggest supporter. I am excited and cannot wait to start as
a TRIO ETS Academic Advisor!

Educational Talent Search (ETS) is a TRIO program funded by the U.S. Evelyn Aguilar, Academic Advisor

annually assists 700 middle and high school students as they explore their Aye Bra Tha, Academic Advisor
