Rio 2016 Program
BACKGROUND
For 16 days in August 2016 (August 5 – 21), Rio de Janeiro will host the games of the 31st
Olympiad, the world’s largest international multi-sport event. The 2016 Summer Olympics are
commonly known as Rio 2016. It is the first time in the history of the Olympics that the games will
be held in South America. The sporting events will take place across 33 venues throughout the city,
host more than 10,500 athletes and millions of spectators. Coincidentally in 2016, the Brazil-U.S.
Business Council will complete 40 years of bridging the Brazil-U.S. relations and the American
Chamber of Commerce Rio de Janeiro will be celebrating its 100th Anniversary. Together, we will
be celebrating the many achievements to-date and will be looking to the future of the bilateral
relationship. The celebration will kick off the next decade of strategic positioning of our member
companies as an influential force in government agendas. We invite you to join the celebrations in
Rio 2016.
