ABOUT THE LEEDS HUNTERS RUFC
The Leeds Hunters RUFC is Yorkshire’s premier inclusive Rugby team for
players from all genders and sexualities. Formed in 2016 the club has
grown rapidly since its foundation with a broad and diverse active
membership and thousands of supporters across social media.

The club has grown from its roots as a full contact XV team aimed at gay
and bisexual men to a broader gateway into Rugby that differentiates the
club from traditional clubs by focusing on foster and inclusive environment
and a gateway into Rugby. We are in the process of incorporating access to
O2 Touch Rugby in May 2021 to open our club to a wider membership and
to provide a pathway to play for the Trans* community. This expansion is
one of the reasons we need your support.

This innovation has been built on the clubs existing success, with the club
winning the Cu Chulainn Cup at the 2019 Union Cup. Europe’s largest
International Gay Rugby (IGR) tournament.

Our aim is to aspire to the values of Rugby Union by fostering an
environment of mutual respect, equality, tolerance and teamwork. We
promote cooperation, friendship and compassion both on and off the pitch.

WHAT IS INCLUSIVE RUGBY?
The Leeds Hunters RUFC are part of the International Gay Rugby
Association and Board (IGR). The IGR are a global organization of
inclusive rugby clubs, primarily focused towards gay and bisexual
men. There are more than 100 recognized IGR clubs across the
World, 25 of which are here in the United Kingdom, but there is only
one pack of Hunters.

The IGR and its member clubs organize regional, national and
international tournaments. During the 2020/2021 season the
Hunters plan to attend and compete for the Northern IGR, Hadrian Cup
and the Union Cup - hopefully taking your support with them.

Leeds Hunters are an affiliated member of Yorkshire RFU. Moreover,
we work very closely with our RFU Rugby Development Officer as
we continue to build and advance the club for long-term success.
The support we have received from both the RFU and County Body
is undeniable as they deliver on the historic agreement signed in
2015 by World Rugby and the IGR to collaborate on the continued
promotion of equality and inclusivity in rugby.

OUR COMMUNITY FOCUS

Our rugby club is more than about the sport, it is about the people connected to
our club and the communities those people come from.

The Hunters have helped to develop two other inclusive clubs in Yorkshire and
provide development teams to play against mixed ability rugby teams, so that
people with various disabilities can also benefit from the game.

We are also helping to raise awareness and funds for a national testicular cancer
charity along with fellow clubs from around the UK.

Throughout the year we have held wellbeing events for members after training
which have included guest speakers from local charities and public sector
organisations to talk to our team about such issues as mental health, transgender
inclusion, hate crime and role models.

In the 2019-2020 season we also promoted Yorkshire MESMAC’s U=U campaign
to raise awareness and educate people about the discrimination HIV+ people
often face and show our support for those within our community living with HIV.

We have recently launched a new website which will allow us to share the
experiences of our players with prospective members and encourage more
people from across the whole LGBTQ* community and its allies to take u
